Dave Begley said...: I argued today in the NE S. CT. The State Patrol guards the door. The State Patrolman remarked to us before he let us in that the young lawyers have a planned argument and then they get hit with questions and they kind of come apart.

I said, "It's like what Mike Tyson said, 'Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the mouth."

My opponent goes first and one of the Justices pops her with a very tough question that she wasn't expecting. And then he kept on hitting her. She was stammering. Nearly a KO.

Begley gets up and dumps his prepared argument and kept on pounding her on the same issue (capacity to make a will). And then - in the moment - I came up with the fact that she hadn't assigned the capacity issue as error. That's a major mistake. I'd briefed the case very well and I didn't think of that until today.

The Justices, of course, went after my case but I think I handled it well.

But, boy, they are all very smart and very prepared. In a way it was fun to intellectually spar with them. But if I lose....; 10/31/23, 6:06 PM

Fantastic doc. I'm not a documentary filmmaker guy, I'm a narrative guy. But this is way, way up there. Step Into Liquid (surfing doc) was my old favorite.

Really interesting movie that explores what happens after we die. Lots of interviews with doctors, including a cardiologist and a neurologist, as they try to find evidence and document it.

Movie has a lot of interviews with people who died. Usually their heart stopped beating. In some cases because of extreme cold, their heart stopped beating and their brain waves stopped, too.

Very interesting movie for religious people or agnostics. Anybody who is curious about what death might be like, or who is open-minded. None of the people seemed crazy. Almost all of them wrote books about it, and many of them are NYT best-sellers. It's still in theaters at the moment.; 10/31/23, 7:11 PM

I live in a nice area, low crime rate, well lit, etc.

I got absolutely ZERO trick or treaters. As did my neighbors, and others in the neighborhood. All well decorated and lit up. Finally gave up and posted on my neighborhood page and finally a kid came and took all of it at the end of the night. Can’t even be angry he took the whole thing because it’s the end of the nights.

Bums me out because every parent I’ve spoken to has talked about how much easier it is just to take them and walk around a parking lot.

Personally as a kid I loved walking around to the houses and see all the different decorations on the houses

Next year I’m just not going to bother decorating or getting candy. Too much money just for parents to take their kid to a parking lot
