From "Grumpy Robert De Niro testifies in sensational showdown with ex-assistant who claimed he’s boss from hell: ‘This is nonsense!’" (NY Post).
She's suing for $12 million. I can't figure out what the legal basis of the claim is supposed to be. Her job was personal assistant — to an 80-year-old movie star — and she received a $300,000-a-year salary.

Nice salary unless he was abusive.
Can't stand De Niro's politics and his acting has been shit for the past 40 years, but I'm not a fan of employees/family members grubbing for money from celebrities/generic rich folks.
Unseemly.
Don't like your job? Quit.
Legal basis? Who cares about that. Near money = deserve money. A lizard eating a fly logic. Look at what the naked baby Nirvana album cover model did...he first remade the cover as an adult and then later sued and lost.

I don't know what this is about, but he's another Trump hater, and an early member of the Hollywood Anti-vaccination Squad, causing all these problems for us, so fuck him.
Women are sensitive flowers, is why. This requires lots of money.
For $300,000.00 per year, I would have scratched Robert DeNiro's back!
"I can't figure out what the legal basis of the claim is supposed to be."
This explains that.
Two counts of violations of NY civil rights law (gender discrimination and retaliation) and five of various employment law violations.
Robinson's a bitch, De Niro's a bitch, and so is Karma, Bobby D, you fucking asshole.
I can't figure out what the legal basis of the claim is supposed to be
…much of that going around nowadays. Bullshit with an authoritative straight face seems to work…
Why is this even in court? Why didn't it get kicked out? My understanding is that there has to be actual damages, and they have to amount to a lot more than having your feelings hurt. I'm no fan of DiNero's politics, but for $300,000 a year I can bite my tongue and put up with a few off-color remarks.
Lottery justice, baby.
You would think DeNiro would know better than to hire a woman to do something a man can do just as well. If that's what he did, he's an idiot. But I'd need to see her picture, to be sure that's what he did..
"Legal basis?" Payday, baby!!
A case with content and subject matter befitting its defendant. DeNiro is, or was, a talented actor. But seeing the way he went around the bend when talking about Donald Trump made me realize how really petty and small-minded the man is - evidenced by the way he would leverage his stage for receiving recognition or performing, for launching a barrage against Trump. I still watch his old work occasionally, but I no longer respect his integrity.
Ms. Robinson, I'm trying to seduce you. Aren't I?
But was it rape-rape? #DEI
All aboard the #MeToo train to social liberal land. Forward!
My only thought? The ex-employees of our VP have hit the jackpot!
I heard things…
Having someone scratch your back is way better than a back scratcher. I would be happy to scratch his back and listen to randy jokes for $300k. Actually, I'd do it for less.
Men hire young women because of their youth and attractiveness when a pragmatic older woman (or a man) might have been a wiser choice.
"she received a $300,000-a-year salary"
Did he think it would buy silence and discretion?
Anyway, the lawsuit exposes the real meaning of #MeToo: me too will dig for gold in court.
I can't figure out how those comments are misogynistic. Inappropriate maybe, but they don't show a dislike of women.
Not a huge fan of De Niro (as a person---or personality--some very good acting work along with a lot of hammy stuff) but this seems like a lot of nonsense to me.
It's a bitch fight- hopefully both lose.
I can't imagine anyone being willing to touch DeNiro, even at 300K/year.
Despicable individual. Both he and Pesci would be lost for words with the F word.
She's using the court system to rob a man.
Lots of women do that.
Our legal system is feminist, and biased.
The problems of 1% of 1% of the world.
Having someone scratch your back is way better than a back scratcher.
=======
so DeNiro dressed in costume as scratching post and let the catty-woman go at him!
Whew, good thing he’s a democrat. If he was a Republican he wouldn’t stand a chance.
"He asked her to literally scratch her back"
If he asked her to scratch her back, how does this involve De Nero? (Aside from the request.)
Scratching his back is a piss-poor come on.
He thought money changes everything, but, without a script, Robert De Niro is as lame and unimaginative as any other ugly man.
Democrats like De Niro believe all women, except the ones shaking him down.
If they shake down Republicans though, they are totally credible.
"But seeing the way he went around the bend when talking about Donald Trump made me realize how really petty and small-minded the man is - evidenced by the way he would leverage his stage for receiving recognition or performing, for launching a barrage against Trump."
If you deplore this behavior in DeNiro, why don't you deplore Trump's identical behavior? Trump is petty and small-minded and he leverages any opportunity (on his global stage) to launch attacks and insults on the various and sundry entities who are most bothersome to him on any given day or hour.
Repulsive lawsuits are a hell of their own. Look at the horrors Mark Steyn is experiencing.
My professor -- who committed the crime of converting to Catholicism and having a severe case of MS that she managed with magnificent, open, unashamed dignity -- was persecuted by the lesbian and leftist hags at the department she founded and from which she was driven out (conservative women were welcome as long as she ran it, and nevermore).
Nightline ran some ugly footage of her struggling from her car into her walker. May they rot in hell.
Depositions claiming that she "intimidated" adult women graduate students by throwing her sweater over her chair backwards to show off the Nieman Marcus label were, unbelievably, part of the evidence against her.
She had a fused spine and moving was excruciating for her, as was standing and sitting. She threw the sweater that way because she couldn't turn around.
Every Christmas, she held a lovely party at her home. I know the toll it took on her. Nobody was excluded. She gave lovely gifts and even sent flowers to those who testified, dumbly, against her.
It was a grotesque show trial motivated by a disgruntled aide. My professor won, but it took an horrific toll on her health, especially as the other academic quislings did nothing to defend her.
Yes, I sometimes ran to the pharmacy for her, though I was her student. She paid me. She actually didn't have to. She needed physical and academic help. She would never have asked otherwise.
Watching what they did to her, after she professionally did so much for them, made me realize that leftists will stop at nothing to purge, imprison, humiliate, torture, socially annihilate, and kill people for the small transgressions. Later it takes more planning.
These are your people, Robert Cook. Own them. Your ideology makes nihilism look like a stroll in the park.
They tried to break this brilliant, proud woman. But faith triumphed in the end.
DeNiro is a disgrace, but this is a money grab.
Cook - perhaps you haven't been paying attention - the corrupt left are doing all they can to destroy a man they hate - because of his personality.
btw- DeNiro - elite leftist Hillarywoodlander - can eat shit. Pay up, a-hole.
2:24 - Rabel - thank you.
Robert Cook said...
"If you deplore this behavior in DeNiro, why don't you deplore Trump's identical behavior?"
Concept of us - unleashing him on our enemies - just doesn't get through to you, does it?
Robert Cook, I have not seen Donald Trump attack someone publicly, except in defensive response. Never. He is a classic counter-puncher, and the tone of his riposte seems always in keeping with the tone of his attacker, and the nature of the attack. I have taken the time to look at some of these attacks, which oddly enough, are normally not characterized accurately by the media. I have also seen him quietly help those in need, without fanfare or the need of attention. So I see Trump as being reasonably fair-minded - until he's under attack. I do not see DeNiro in a similar light. Do you?
One of the real flaws in our legal system is that both parties cannot lose...Like many here, I've endured far more crap for far less money than her. It's hard to generate much sympathy for either her or DeNiro. I suspect that there are some complicated dynamics going on with this case. It's more or perhaps less than it appears....For one version of the Hallmark Movie, I'd cast Sylvester Stallone as her hunk employer. She can be played by an Alice Ghostley type who's in love with her boss and becomes enraged by his going off and marrying some younger woman. In another version, I'd have Matthew Broderick or Joe Biden portray DeNiro. He's gone to seed and has lost a few of his marbles. He thinks the world is in love with him and makes impossible demands on all in his vicinity. The secretary is played by Charlize Theron. She has vast reserves of patience and kindness, but this one time he goes too far and now she's out for revenge.....Somebody's going to get a book or movie deal out of this. Maybe one of the lawyers.
"At times, De Niro would flatly deny something, only to later admit that there might be truth to it in a manner different than how it was suggested."
Pay the woman.
