Jamaal Bowman.

I haven't said "Jamaal Bowman" yet. Everyone else has said "Jamaal Bowman" before I did, so I feel listless and unhelpful. And yet the pressure of not saying "Jamaal Bowman" is too much to bear.

"Jamaal Bowman" is a fire alarm bloggers can pull when they need to write about something in the news.

He just seems not too bright. Is that news?

Like "Draymond Green," it's got it's charms.

FullMoon said...

Did he make it to his crucial vote on time? Did the doors open when he pulled the alarm?
It seems that if there were an actual fire, and doors were locked, pulling the alarm would, indeed, open the doors to allow escape.

If not, pretty poor situation.

Say it slowly: “Jamaal is the victim”. Repeat as necessary.

Point of order. That's not how one should address him.

We know he'll suffer no consequences of any kind and he knew it the time. Fun for him. His constituents in Yonkers aren't getting educated and are getting murdered but he won't pull a fire alarm over that. They're Dems, they'll vote for him any way.

Bowman agrees, which is why he engaged in criminal mischief to disrupt governmental solitude, and garner attention, perchance to delay the People's work.

Do you mean the Jamaal Bowman who before being a Member of Congress was a school principal during which employment he conducted fire drills so that student-children would know to leave the school building orderly?

That Jamaal? Being the same Jamaal who said that he thought the fire alarm device next to a door was an automatic door-opener activator.

Best and the Brightest.

Too bad you said it. He’s already been stuffed headfirst down the memory hole, and if you had held out just a little longer, you’d have faced no further pressure to add your voice to the vast chorus tearing his name to bits.

Poor guy: all he does is fumble his exit from the building —just this one time!— and the hater GOP pounces all over him. And you? Isn’t this a MeToo move? A late hit on a guy just trying to find his way home?

I think that the reason that so many people have latched on to this story is because his excuse is a logically indefensible lie. He totally jumped the shark with this one.

He obviously knows how fire alarms work because he was a school principal. (They don't open doors. In fact, many buildings have fire alarm systems that actually close doors, to keep the fire from spreading. Those doors are normally held open with electromagnets and when the alarm is pulled, the magnets are turned off and the doors automatically close.) Also, the door that he claimed that he was trying to exit through had three big red signs saying that these doors were "emergency exit only." Since he's worked in that building for a few years, the odds are high that knew that, too. And assuming that he didn't remember that those doors were emergency exit only, there were three big red signs to tell him that. Does he also want us to believe that he doesn't know how to read?

For what it's worth, the thing that puzzles me most is that Bowman says he was in a hurry to the chamber to vote in favor of something, while the Dems actually in the Capitol (until he forcibly evacuated them) were trying frantically to stall a vote. Someone smarter than I can resolve the discrepancy.

ha ha ha

When I was a kid and my mom was in a "parent-teacher conference" and they were having a discussion about me, the trouble-maker, or possibly my brother, one of us pulled the fire alarm.

What I didn't know -- because I had never pulled a fire alarm before -- is that the fire alarm is loud as shit. And my mom and my teacher -- might have been a principal, damn if I can remember -- came out into the hallway. And there was no fire, just me and my brother standing there next to the fire alarm, pointing fingers at each other.

Anyway, they called the fire department and they recalled the fire truck and it went back to the firehouse. Nobody arrested me, probably because I was 9 or 10, and my brother was 6 or 7.

I don't know if I was in trouble. Maybe I was just bored! "Hey, Ted, why don't you pull the fire alarm and see what happens." I'm just glad there's a presumption of innocence.

People are doing hard time in federal prison for less. I’ve decided to cross a personal rubicon. I hate democrats. When the time comes, I’ll remember who each one is. There has to be a reckoning. And yeah, it’s this piece of shit scumbag who has pushed me over that line. The only decent thing for the democrat party to do is expel this guy. They won’t, because they think they’re gonna keep up this evil forever. We’ll see bitches. Man am I pissed.

One of the TV pundits commented that pulling a fire alarm to disrupt official proceedings is the kind of stunt that Republicans are known for. Yeah, right.

Evidently, they've forgotten about the false fire alarms used to disrupt proceedings in Madison when Scott Walker was Governor.

Evidently, they've forgotten about the false fire alarms used to disrupt proceedings in Austin by Wendy Davis and her crew.

There's far more, but this is a forgetful group - when it comes to their assaults on democracy.

The attempt by Jamaal to stall the vote is reminiscent of 2011,"A planned state Senate vote on slashing Wisconsin public worker pensions and curbing their unions stalled Thursday after Senate Democrats apparently fled the state.

The contentious vote was postponed because the 33-member Senate must have 20 present for a quorum and not a single Democrat attended. There are only 19 Republicans so at least one Democrat must be present for the Senate to open business.

Police have been sent out to look for the wayward lawmakers, the Associated Press reported. A source said it appeared that the Democrats had boarded a bus headed for Iowa."

Althouse and Meade ventured into the midst of the psycho protesters, risking life and limb to observe and report.

It's much easier. If al Qaeda had lost on 9-11, nobody named Jammal or Barack would exist any more in the United States. They would be dead. And they certainly wouldn't be the President of the old United States.

Michelle Dulak Thomson @ 1:55: Your comment prompts me to ask, does nobody have the knowledge, skill (and esp. the courage) to diagram where in three-dimensional space, this clown Bowman happened to be when he pulled the alarm, relative to where he said he wanted to be to make the vote happen, or relative to where he would like to be if he wanted to duck the vote? This kind of basic timeline/mapping is, like, the first job of forensic investigators.

Let me guess, that the geography of Mr. Bowman's location vis-a-vis the chamber where votes were being collected, is not favorable to his "alibi."
