Good God whoopi goldberg is horrible. her linereadings are awful. She's supposed to be smart, mysterious, funny and friendly. And she's ...uh..friendly.

Q who, where they meet the Borg, should be the greatest episode ever, but everytime Q and Picard have some great conversation, there's whoopi in her stupid hat, giving some slow motion, low-energy comment.

And some of the guest actors, are very mediocre. TOS had great ones. TNG, has adequate ones except for the guy who plays Q. Maybe, they get better in Seaons 3.; 9/1/23, 7:51 PM

I have forgotten so much ST:TNG (and spinoffs) that I can only conclude that I was too tired to pay much attention. BBCAmerica reruns them often, and I sometimes watch for a few minutes in a stete of queasy fascination.; 9/1/23, 8:08 PM
Mark said...: TNG is hit or miss, IME. Watched it with a group of friends when it was being released, Q should be better but the actor annoyed me. Whoopi is just a plot device who thinks she is in an actual role.

It aged poorly, like all the 80s Waters films. Recently watched Blues Brothers with my kid, was surprised how well that aged as unlike TNG it has every bit of joy still there.; 9/1/23, 8:38 PM

Silly me, I thought actors played people who weren't them. And we're supposed to understand its all fiction. But I guess that's false. If a black actor plays a space alien thats a chauvanist or has cave man attitudes, that means we're saying black people are that way.

Given that attitude, I've finally realized that when Hollywood casts white men as villians, its not because they are good for the part, its because they hate white men. And southerners, Russians, arabs, and upperclass englishmen. And its also why Hollywood constantly shows Christian pastors/preachers in a bad light. Whens the last time we had a Rabbi who was a Villian or and bad guy?

Soviet propaganda and US entertainment media have a lot in common.

PS - Wesley is hated by the TNG fans. I thought he was OK. But I usually FF through any subplot he's involved in. He was supposed to be the replacement for checkov, aka the young guy teenyboppers could identify with. But, they didn't write his character very well.; 9/2/23, 5:12 AM
