Half a billion people have been taking ivermectin daily for 40 years now.

If it were unsafe, we would know.

It may or may not be effective against kung flu. There seem to be studies both ways. But it is probably safer than aspirin.

So: can't hurt, might help, why did FDA and other state and govt agencies effectively ban it?

Because if it did work, even a little, Pfizer vaccine could not have been legally authorized and Pfizer could not have made billions on their non-vaccine.

Remember "my body, my choice!"? Funny how we never hear it anymore.

Still, good to know a rapid, but perhaps not totally effective, response can be accomplished to novel viral agents. Designed in just a few days and relatively innocuous, the Pfizer vax is still an amazing accomplishment. It could have been released days to weeks after development, which supposedly took only 48 hours in a lab. That info will hopefully convince the CCP to avoid viral attack on the rest of the world in WW III.

Nice to see that Maher is capable of thinking coherently when he's led right up to it, post-facto. Too bad about that whole pandemic thingie - I remember some of his sarcasm from back then, too, directed at his political opposition.

Progressive political philosophy and belief systems have become the breeding ground for the next Reich in American politics, as evidenced by the matrix of freedom-sucking policy choices made by public policy officials during the pandemic, and the blind obedience and targeting of the non-complying 'others' that these policies inspired out in the common fold.

Which is not to say that these Progressives didn't have a lot of company from the other 'good Germans' of all political stripes. Where are the dissenters? They are cowering before the sinister reach of the new electronic martinets.

If there are no mutations being the most important. Because there were, and they mattered. But those who were paying attention all along with only a minimum of attention rather than getting your vaccine opinion from your politics knew pretty clearly what their vaccinations would and would not do.

They pull their punches by not pointing out ivermectin was effective for people who took it. In India doctors tried to announce they had found a powerful weapon and the Biden government got on a plane in a hurry to threaten them so they’d shut up…

"public health" officials assume everyone is too stupid to understand that. So they continued claiming despite 80% of people getting vaxxed and probably 80% of those people getting COVID, they still tried to bulldoze the common sense of normal people by pushing vaxxes.

Instead of burning their credibility, they could have agreed that, gee, the virus mutated, like the flu, which everyone is familiar with, and therefore the first - gen vaccine is out of date. (but it's ok because the Kung Flu is less deadly now (not that it was ever even as bad as they claimed, because they're lying hacks).

But they're dishonest liars getting bribed by Pfizer and Moderna so they didn't.

The authorization for emergency use of the experimental "vaccine" required that there were no known alternatives. Thus, the state media demonized all the alternatives.

BTW, I had to sign a release for the "vaccine" in March 2020. When is the last time you had to sign a release for supposed medicine?

Can I once again point out that it is not really a vaccine, but an immune system booster?

rhhardin said...

The original vaccine tested somewhere around 90% effective, and it seemed to be. The incidence of new cases went to pretty much zero after 6 months, which is that theory said it would do.

It's subsequent variants of the virus that the vaccine didn't do anything for, probably because they were much more highly infectious while at the same time being less serious to contract.

Ivermectin does not prevent or treat viral infectious respiratory disease in animals. It's been around for decades and is cheap. If it worked in animals, including those who get infected with coronaviruses, it would be used in that capacity already.

Big Mike said...

Is that second sentence even true? Or is it more correct to say that no one understands the mechanisms by which ivermectin works against viruses, nor is it apparent that anyone is looking. Note that if key individuals were expecting financial gains from vaccines — which is not yet proven — then it would certainly be in their financial interest to suppress low-cost, effective treatments such as hydroxychloroquine plus zinc, or ivermectin. I lived in or in suburbs of Washington, DC, from 1969 until 2016. None of you commentators are going to come within miles of me when it comes to cynicism as to how our government really works.

I agree with mikee above. The Pfizer vaccine was an accomplishment, and it helped. Further disclosures may prove me wrong, but I don't think all of the mistakes and hysteria were part of a plot to further Pfizer's profits. I think most of the overselling and mistakes were done by people who sincerely had our best interests at heart.....That's the problem. Idealism has caused more human misery than the profit motive. People will work an extra shift for money, but, historically, all the great crimes were committed by people whose eyes were on a prize greater than money. The Nazis and the early Bolsheviks weren't in it for the money. They worked long hours and made huge sacrifices for what they perceived as the betterment of humanity.
...The one group of people that I wouldn't grant a pardon to are the teachers. I believe their refusal to go back to work had more to do with laziness than a wish to protect humanity from a dread disease. At best, they wanted to protect morbidly obese teachers from catching the virus at the expense of children's education. They were wrong, and they did not act in the best interests of the children. I don't expect an apology any time soon, nor a NYT article on why and how the teacher's union went so far wrong.

As I'm in a risky age group - I'm 69 - I was happy to take the risks. And I think the companies - astra Zeneca and Pfizer did a fantastic job in developing their vaccines, which have saved millions of lives. But I disapproved then, and do now, of mandates and compulsory masking, particularly for younger people. Covid was - and is - a killer for elderly (they should have protected the care homes, not improsoned those in them from their loved ones)and with co-morbidities. I don't blame Pfizer, et al. I do blame some of the health authorities (though the UK's seem much less hysterical than the CDC)for their attitude and a lot of the press were hysterical.

Ahh, and finally one of the telephone operators hits upon the whole numbers thing. What percentage of COVID cases in the West are complicated by undiagnosed parasites that were somehow only making their COVID worse before but not since getting an anti-parasitic?

And defining “100% effective” would be nice, too. Effective at what? At FOX they don’t even know what the vaccine endpoints were.

Endless rationalization. Why not just advocate for the toxic higher doses of Bill and Joe’s Horse Medicine that would have been required to work against viruses?

Joe Rogan is a good hair-loss treatment/transplant specialist BTW, so I totally respect his medical opinion and so should every respectable American of the right! Bill OTOH follows the LA/Hollywood cult of thinking that as long as his hair & makeup assistants, personal trainer and Kombucha drink mixer tell him that his body is a beautiful temple of onscreen biological perfection, then every MD is full of shit. The Infectious Diseases Society of America has nothing that’s going to convince a hard-core inductee into the cult of coffee enemas, silicone implants and chemical skin peels!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but medicine is totally just a matter of West Coast narcissists convincing Republicans that the fountain of youth can be self-actualized in everyone’s mind at least based on how good you look on your last film’s IMDB profile.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

The assistant Idiot misses the mark with regards to how Ivermectin works, as it is now well established that the drug works on proteins secreted by parasites (and similar proteins on the COVID viruses) that affect the immune system and that interaction allows the body to successfully fight off infection from the virus. Similar to how Ivermectin allows the immune system to remove and dispose of a wide variety of parasites. Other drugs prior to the Ivermectin trials in 1982 directly attacked the parasites and would trigger an autoimmune response that could cause death or blindness because of where the microfilariae attach to hosts. So the Idiot’s conclusion that Ivermectin only helps people infected with COVID by ridding them of parasites sounds like more spin gleaned from the “horse dewormer” propagandists.

You can search for “Proc Jpn Acad Ser B Phys Biol Sci.” to find the NIH translation of a 2011 Japanese medical paper that discusses this in detail. Do NOT rely on Big Media or politicians to provide you with truthful medical information. Suppressing doctors and public discourse over the last three years is, as I wrote yesterday, the worst public health disaster in our history.

I was not at all surprised by how well informed Joe Rogan is about the mRNA injections, the emergency-use authorization (EUA), ivermectin, and other topics. Maybe I should not have been surprised by how little Bill Maher knew in comparison.

I was also struck by how utterly Trump-deranged Maher is. Rogan, to his great credit, was able to let Maher rant about Trump and then, probably for the sake of continuing the conversation on a calmer note, deftly steered the conversation elsewhere without confirming or denying Maher's mouth-foaming insanity.

It's one thing to dislike a politician, as Maher does Trump. So do I. It's another to state that Trump is a criminal solely on the basis of the prosecutions now being mounted against Trump. And that would be true even if the prosecutions were not novel, ridiculous, and transparently political.

Oh, for fuck's sake- this is just another in a long line of lies about the vaccines, Village Idiot. Telling people that if they get the vaccine they will not get COVID is an implied claim of 100% effectiveness- full stop. Trying post facto to deny this truth about what was said in 2021 by government officials and media talking heads does make one look like an actual idiot, and I know from your previous comments on this forum that you are not one.

The progression of the lies from late 2020 through to the present day was this:

(1) If you get vaccinated, you will not get COVID- December 2020-about July 2021;

(2) If you get vaccinated, you might get COVID, but you won't be hospitalized or die from COVID- July 2021 through about December 2021;

(3) If you get boosted, you might get COVID and you might be hospitalized, but you won't die from COVID- from December 2021- about September 2022;

(4) If you get boosted and get the new bivalent vaccine, you are likely to get COVID anyway, but you won't be hospitalized or die from it- lasted until about December of 2022

(5) If you have kept up with your COVID vaccines, there might be a little bit of beneficial effect on infection/hopitalization/mortality, but COVID isn't all that dangerous and we never claimed otherwise- this lie containing, finally, some actual truth is final fallback positions of COVIDiot class.

I could do a similar timeline for masking and shutdowns, but I hope I have made my point to the rational people on this forum.

There is a whole revisionist literature on the Great Depression. You should read it sometime. You could start here.

Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After scrutinizing Roosevelt’s record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.

“Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump,” said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA’s Department of Economics. “We found that a relapse isn’t likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies.”

In an article in the August issue of the Journal of Political Economy, Ohanian and Cole blame specific anti-competition and pro-labor measures that Roosevelt promoted and signed into law June 16, 1933.

Or, you could read Amity Shlae's book, "The Forgotten Man."

Wow. When Trump talked about “poorly educated,” he sure wasn’t kidding! FDA can’t prevent any doctor from using any commercially available human drug for any reason, because it doesn’t have that authority - period. That’s the reason prescriptions require the drug name, dose and patient but not “PURPOSE.” Once a drug is approved for any purpose prescribing authority is as broad as any doctor wants. FDA also couldn’t stop Michael Jackson’s doctor from infusing him with volatile aesthetics for insomnia, you silly peasant.

But of course propofol is not FDA-approved for how Michael Jackson’s doctor used it and the anti-parasitic drug ivermectin isn’t FDA-approved for treating viruses that can only be killed by it in a test tube with doses that are toxic to humans.

Too bad Republican home schooling programs don’t offer basic community-college level courses. The education level of some of these right-wing irrationals is lower than what a motivated student can get in a third-world country!

M Kennedy loves Amity Shlaes because she copycats the typical Republican slogan: “Democrats don’t fix the disasters we Republicans cause fast enough!”

In the case of the Republican Herbert Hoover’s Great Depression, that would have been -2 months fast enough. Herbert Hoover was still in office until March 1933, a full TWO MONTHS after the depression he caused already brought GOP-friend Adolf Hitler to power that January! From an election his NSDAP party had won in November 1932!

And since right-wing irrationals have trouble with numbers too, yes that means Herbert Hoover was still in office then as well.

So yeah, no way you can blame that on FDR. But no matter anyway, now that with Nick Fuentes and Kanye West more Republicans than ever are out in the open with their full blown love of Nazi Germany.

"COVID-19 Excess Deaths in Peru’s 25 States in 2020: Nationwide Trends, Confounding Factors, and Correlations With the Extent of Ivermectin Treatment by State"

The peer-reviewed study found a 74 percent reduction in excess deaths in 10 states with the most intensive ivermectin use over a 30-day period following peak deaths during the pandemic.

When analyzing data across 25 states in Peru, researchers found these reductions in excess deaths correlated closely to ivermectin use during four months in 2020.

There was a fourteenfold reduction in nationwide excess deaths when ivermectin was available without restriction.

Once access to ivermectin was restricted by the government, a thirteenfold increase in excess deaths was observed in the two months following the limitation of its use.

Your statement is false. Here's some actual science for you, from the National Institutes of Health:

Ivermectin for Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 Infection: A Systematic Review, Meta-analysis, and Trial Sequential Analysis to Inform Clinical Guidelines

"Background:
Repurposed medicines may have a role against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The antiparasitic ivermectin, with antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties, has now been tested in numerous clinical trials.

Areas of uncertainty:
We assessed the efficacy of ivermectin treatment in reducing mortality, in secondary outcomes, and in chemoprophylaxis, among people with, or at high risk of, COVID-19 infection.

Data sources:
We searched bibliographic databases up to April 25, 2021. Two review authors sifted for studies, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. Meta-analyses were conducted and certainty of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach and additionally in trial sequential analyses for mortality. Twenty-four randomized controlled trials involving 3406 participants met review inclusion.

Therapeutic Advances:
Meta-analysis of 15 trials found that ivermectin reduced risk of death compared with no ivermectin (average risk ratio 0.38, 95% confidence interval 0.19–0.73; n = 2438; I2 = 49%; moderate-certainty evidence). This result was confirmed in a trial sequential analysis using the same DerSimonian–Laird method that underpinned the unadjusted analysis. This was also robust against a trial sequential analysis using the Biggerstaff–Tweedie method. Low-certainty evidence found that ivermectin prophylaxis reduced COVID-19 infection by an average 86% (95% confidence interval 79%–91%). Secondary outcomes provided less certain evidence. Low-certainty evidence suggested that there may be no benefit with ivermectin for “need for mechanical ventilation,” whereas effect estimates for “improvement” and “deterioration” clearly favored ivermectin use. Severe adverse events were rare among treatment trials and evidence of no difference was assessed as low certainty. Evidence on other secondary outcomes was very low certainty.

Conclusions:
Moderate-certainty evidence finds that large reductions in COVID-19 deaths are possible using ivermectin. Using ivermectin early in the clinical course may reduce numbers progressing to severe disease. The apparent safety and low cost suggest that ivermectin is likely to have a significant impact on the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic globally.

Puddinghead is out to teach us again.

Were you the guy who was saying that mRNA vaccines turn into DNA because humans all have AIDS viruses inside them making use of reverse transcriptase enzymes as an explanation for how this should happen?

No but I am surprised you even know about reverse transcriptase since it voids your argument. And yes, I have met David Baltimore who shared the Nobel Prize for discovering it.

I've posted the Henry Ford Clinic studies in hydroxychloroquine before, but I'll do it again for those who persist in rejecting its use out of hand:

Treatment with hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, and combination in patients hospitalized with COVID-19

"Highlights

As of May 27, 2020 there are over 1,678,843 confirmed cases of COVID-19 claiming more than 100,000 lives in the Unites States. Currently there is no known effective therapy or vaccine.

According to a protocol-based treatment algorithm, among hospitalized patients, use of hydroxychloroquine alone and in combination with azithromycin was associated with a significant reduction in-hospital mortality compared to not receiving hydroxychloroquine.

Findings of this observational study provide crucial data on experience with hydroxychloroquine therapy, providing necessary interim guidance for COVID-19 therapeutic practice.
"

Much more at the link, but the end result was:
"Discussion
The results of this study demonstrate that in a strictly monitored protocol-driven in-hospital setting, treatment with hydroxychloroquine alone and hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin was associated with a significant reduction in mortality among patients hospitalized with COVID-19. In this study, among one of the largest COVID-19 hospital patient cohorts (n = 2,541) assembled in a single institution, overall in-hospital COVID-19 associated mortality was 18.1% reflecting a high prevalence of co-morbid conditions in COVID-19 patients admitted to our institution. The independent predictors of mortality in our study included age ≥65 years, CKD, and severe illness at initial presentation as measured by the oxygen saturation levels on admission, and ventilator use reflect findings similar to those reported in earlier studies (Rio and Malani, 2020). These predictors also underscore the high-risk for COVID-19 experienced by residents in our hospital catchment population in Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan. Michigan is among the states with the highest number of cases of COVID-19 and deaths. In Detroit, our residents suffer from substantial preexisting social and racial health disparities that place our patients at increased risk of severe disease and higher mortality (CDC, 2020).
"

How was the Clinic rewarded? The medical community, from Dr. Fauci on down, piled on with insults, unsupported by credible studies, to try countering the Clinic's findings. The Clinic responded with an open letter, (too long to post here).

Besides that, many state boards of pharmacy and some medical boards restricted the use of HCQ, saying its effectiveness was "unproven" (repeated verbatim in most orders), or stating that overprescribing it could result in shortages for patients who needed it for chronic conditions such as lupus.

It's easy to say something is unproven if you make no effort to test it. And medications for chronic conditions should not take precedence over acute illnesses that represent an "existential crisis."

"I don’t think we know a thimbleful of info about long term effects of these “vaccines” on the world population: let’s start w/babies born from vaccinated Mothers… b/c we should all be curious."

Anecdotal, of course, but 20 month old is doing great. I got the J & J shot after recovering from a miscarriage and unexpectedly got pregnant soon after. Other babies I know are also doing great, and many of their mother got mRNA and probably boosters. Some of the kids have gotten the mRNA shots, too. I don't know how many as I don't bring it up.

I'm not too worried about that, but I am concerned about the young men whose hearts may have damaged. I'm angry that the FDA and CDC have not taken this issue seriously. Their recent decisions on the RSV vaccines have deepened my distrust.

M Kennedy loves Amity Shlaes because she copycats the typical Republican slogan: “Democrats don’t fix the disasters we Republicans cause fast enough!”

In the case of the Republican Herbert Hoover’s Great Depression, that would have been -2 months fast enough.

Hoover, unlike Harding and Coolidge, botched the handling of the 1929 Panic. Roosevelt was even worse. Part of the Depression was due to the era of uncertainty brought about by Roosevelt. The NRA was our first experience with fascism. The present experience will probably turn out the same way.

The 1929 panic was brought about largely due to the death in 1928 of Benjamin Strong who was Governor of the NY Fed. Strong had been involved in the boom of the 1920s but his death left the motor running at high speed for too long.

Coolidge predicted the crash but had no power to rein in the Fed. The stock market was the responsibility of the NY governor, a guy named Roosevelt.

There was a crash in 1920 but the election of Harding and his policies ended it quickly.

More puddinghead ignorance:

Wow. When Trump talked about “poorly educated,” he sure wasn’t kidding! FDA can’t prevent any doctor from using any commercially available human drug for any reason, because it doesn’t have that authority - period.

No, the state medical boards can and, using FDA reasoning, will revoke the license of any MD who violates the "guidelines' by telling the truth to patients. There is an Oklahoma ER doc who is suing on this very point.

Right. So tell your right-wing friend “Hunter Biden’s tax payer funded Hooker” that, since she’s the one who said that the FDA can regulate how doctors use commercially approved drugs or devices.

Not that she can learn, though. April Apple is a self-hating woman who cares more about the current president’s son than her need to vote for an abuser of women who “grabs them by the pussy” and is under indictment on four charges and over 90 counts. It’s hard to take seriously someone who elevates the same miscreant who would debase her. I guess some people really strongly identify with their own need to be abused.

Anyway, imagine that! States rights leading to greater restriction of your freedom to incorrectly prescribe dewormers than the federal government can. Yep, smaller governments at the state level trampling your rights in ways that at the federal level cannot. The right-wing conceit laid bare.

Also, are you in favor of state boards allowing general practice physicians to prescribe anesthetics like Propofol for insomnia, the way Michael Jackson’s doctor did? It’s all about the FREEDOM, am I right????

Cool opinion bro @3:50 PM. Are you saying that Hitler was elected in 1932 while Hoover managed the Depression he and his friends caused or not? It’s an issue of basic historical timelines.

Thank goodness FDR had the skills to rally the nation behind WWII, though. If it were a Republican in the Whiite House Europe would have ended up divided (as Eisenhower did to Korea), completely lost to commies (as Nixon did to Vietnam), or with a 20-year stalemate (as Bush and Trump did in Afghanistan).

But let’s stick to the point, though. Hoover crashed the world economy and it got Hitler elected. What a great record for Republicans!

Also, he has an institution named after him. For some reason this uninvolved loner Coolidge that you love so much does not.

No but I am surprised you even know about reverse transcriptase since it voids your argument.

What argument? Your argument is the one that relies on COVID-predisposed humans all having AIDS with RT actively involved in turning vaccine mRNA into DNA (which it doesn’t to anyway. All it does is turn HIV genomes from RNA to DNA). It does not act on the infinite number of human mRNA transcripts also being churned out constantly within every cell in their bodies, infected or not.

But nice try. Pretty funny that you argue something which requires any human COVID vaccine patient also having AIDS.

And yes, I have met David Baltimore who shared the Nobel Prize for discovering it.

Wow. And what does that have to do with anything? How is it supposed to strengthen your argument, exactly?

Or are you just the same narcissist requiring a sense of importance that you can only get by bragging about meeting some random important person?

Anyway, if you know him so well go ahead and ask him about your argument about how non-AIDS infected humans all turn COVID mRNA vaccines into DNA. I’m sure he will find it very impressive.

Hasty Pudding's lashing out at individual women, accusing them of approving of violence against women while claiming to out their real names is stalkerish. If he wishes to engage in this behavior, he should at minimum use his real name to do so.

Biologist Rhonda Patrick is always a great guest on Joe Rogan. She never politicizes what she knows and always admits what she doesn't know. If more scientists were like her, we would be having different and better conversations about Covid research -- and better research.

Listening to her very early the pandemic, I got the sense that she was already concerned about political forces prematurely shutting off scientific studies that could prove the relative efficacy of different types of therapeutic and vaccine mitigations.

Suppressing such research proved to be the very path Fauci pursued.

If you knew Fauci's professional and personal reputation during the AIDS epidemic, this would come as no surprise. He is the consummate example of a scientist derailed by narcissism, politics, and identity politics.

When AIDS activists demanded both obviously dangerous things (keeping bathhouses open) and alternative treatments, some kooky, some effective symptom mitigators, Fauci pandered to them at every turn, choosing performative self-deification over scientific judgment. Thus we have expensive drugs handed out for free (at great taxpayer expense) to enable sexually suicidal gay men to keep barebacking, as people with other chronic diseases have seen scant research and NO similar scale of resources directed at equally or more deadly diseases.

Imagine if the people and scientists seeking to boost immune resistance to Covid by testing alternative therapies were treated with the empathy, leverage, respect, and tax dollars showered on the wealthy AIDS industry from Day 1. Instead, they are demonized and marginalized by the government, the media, and the medical establishment -- even though this open-minded approach to AIDS research yielded some of the best treatments to date.

Maher may think such close-mindedness is new among leftists, but he is wrong. They have always been driven by the identity politics gods to alternately deify or demonize people based on nothing more than political affiliation. Scientific integrity died a long time ago in Fauci's circles. Their lasting accomplishment this time was reinforcing an hierarchy of the relative value of humans based on Party affiliation and lifestyle choices-- the opposite of their approach to AIDS. This is government fascism in its purest form, emanating from where all first world government fascism begins: among the scientists.

Well, that’s understandable. They have a professional reputation to worry about and you don’t. And they don’t need to subject themselves to malpractice lawsuits.

He goes through a lot of words to convey very little.

Well when Trump gave his shout out to the “poorly educated” I’m sure he wasn’t leaving out manual laborers in Illinois with empty vocabularies and a reading comprehension ability stuck at the 8th-grade level.

I remember fondly when Rusty said that the earth is much warmer than the space around it because the sun exists. That was a thing of brilliance to behold. I think NASA has a thing or two to learn from that nugget of ingeniousness. I guess if he ever attained a lifestyle capable of air travel he’d marvel at the -60 degree temps outside at 30,000 feet in the air with the sun shining in full view above the clouds. How could it get so cold out there! It’s a real brain teaser. Rusty surely is working away on the answer to it in his workshop, though.

Pretty creepy for Tina Trent to stalk me like that. And all just for wondering why a woman would want to boost the political power of a guy who lost a $5 million lawsuit for defaming and “sexually abusing” a woman that he confused for Marla Maples in his deposition.

And what I’m saying is a common opinion. No need to personalize or feign ignorance of what I’m saying - unless you have no better point to actually make.
