I probably won't be the only person to point this out, but Ray "You have to enter the Capitol" Epps got a slap on the wrist "disorderly conduct" when another guy got six months for shouting "1776," which apparently somehow encouraged people to enter the Capitol Building.

The WA legislature created a cap and trade carbon tax program which has added $0.50/gal to our gas prices. Jay Inslee lies about how much CAT will cost drivers (just pennies! he says).

Olympia, Washington — SEPTEMBER 19, 2023 — Citizen Action Defense Fund, through retained outside counsel, is set to argue its motion for summary judgment in its lawsuit on behalf of taxpayers against the state of Washington on Friday, September 22nd. The hearing on the motion will take place in Thurston County Superior Court on the challenge to key legislation in the 2022 Transportation Package, and, if granted, would have the effect of lowering the cost of gas and driver’s license fees.
Doriot et al. v. State of Washington was filed on behalf of a small business and a trucking company in an effort to ensure the court strikes down ESSB 5974 due to its violation of the single subject requirement of the Washington state constitution. If successful, the court will enter a declaratory judgment that renders ESSB 5874 unconstitutional and void.
“This motion to get a final court ruling is not just about trying to help people with sky-high gas prices and license fees, it is also a chance to make sure the state constitution is followed so that the legislature can’t play word games with laws.” said Jackson Maynard, Executive Director of CADF. “It is somewhat ironic that even the parties arguing for the act’s constitutionality couldn’t agree on the meaning of the title of the bill in briefing. If the state and proponents are confused about what bill language means, the public stands no chance. The need for transparency is exactly why this provision of the state constitution exists.”

We now know how Twitter was manipulated into censoring stories. What did the Biden’s do to get media giants to go along with their corruption?
I mean, sadly the Governor of California is right, what’s a little corruption among political families.
The bigger story is how and why did big media fall in line? How did the paper of record fail to record this corruption, happening in broad daylight?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Epps was charged with disorderly conduct on restricted grounds, a misdemeanor offense that hundreds of the J6 Capitol rioters have faced. He pleaded guilty in order to get a reduced sentence and reduced legal fees.

"Two of the members are former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan. Clapper and Brennan were both key individuals who pushed the false Russia narrative during the Trump administration, claiming the 2016 election was stolen and claimed Hunter Biden's laptop was "Russian disinformation" just weeks before the 2020 presidential election. Clapper lied under oath during congressional testimony about the federal government spying on American citizens. Brennan called Trump a traitor, implying he should be put to death. He has the same disdain for Americans who support Trump and other Republicans. Clapper and Brennan are far left radicals who believe the federal government should be used to silence dissent. Pelosi lied, causing people to die. (funny, how she had her daughter there to film this for her documentary about this deadly event that killed Trump supporters only)
"Chief Sund: Yeah, that is correct. I spoke to Speaker Pelosi three times that evening. And she went on national TV and said, I’d never spoken to her, but I spoke to her three times."
I thought of an example of the grammatical conundrum I was complaining about in the last sunrise cafe!
"What makes me angry are the statements they keep making."
THIS is the construction that I've run across several times recently. And I see why, think - the plain old word "what" is indeterminate in number, even though the rest of the subject, "makes me angry," implies that "what" is singular. But what I've seen recently and don't remember seeing in the past is that the verb agrees with the part of the sentence that is definitely and uniformly determinate in number, the predicate nominative. Is this correct?
I would still have used "is" instead of "are" here. Now, if I were to reverse the sentence - "The statements they keep making are what makes me angry" - I would use "are" and I can't imagine it another way. But in my original example, I swear I've been seeing "are" instead of "is" even though the "what" is used in a singular sense.
So - is this a special case, when a sentence begins with "what" for some reason (or, I suppose, "who" or "that which")? Because it still seems to me that in deciding the subject-verb agreement, you should consider the WHOLE subject, not just the indeterminate word or phrase that opens the subject.
My example doesn't apply to "that which," I don't think. "Those which" would be the clearly plural form. Sorry, my whole comment woke me up out of a sound sleep.
I cruised over to Gram’s burial plot yesterday. I brought a 12 pack of Corona (He’s drinking Corona in a semi famous photo) and a big fat hooter. Don’t know what I expected but there were a couple of sisters there. They live close by and go over a few times a year. It was just us, so we had a few beers, did the hooter and shared some Gram stories. One of them mentioned Joe Biden’s kind words to the people of Maui and I laughed. I stopped at the IP on the way back home, got up about $800.00, then blew it all on one double deck. It was not a sad, sad day.
Owen Shroyer never entered the Capitol. He was sentenced for speech, for "helping to create January 6th on his radio program," and for shouting "1776" in the demonstrations.
Ray Epps vehemently urged people to enter the Capitol. It's on video. He is as responsible as anybody for the stuff that happened that day, but he gets puff pieces in the media, and kid glove treatment by the DoJ.
The QAnon Shaman also got a heavy sentence based on his political expression: "The third person with such a sentence was Jacob Chansley, who did not engage in violence but whose visage as the “QAnon shaman” became an indelible symbol of Jan. 6."
I know you guys hate free speech, but this authoritarian use of selective prosecution, where were the prosecutions in the Kavanaugh hearings? The complete disinterest in the role of the FBI in this demonstration that certainly got out of hand, and the complete lack of interest in decisions such as declining National Guard protection for the Capitol building, as offered by Donald Trump, is more than a little disturbing.
All violent offenders should be prosecuted, for sure. But the prosecution of political speech is USSR level stuff. But hey, I thought that the guys throwing improvised explosive devices into Federal Courthouses in Portland, or attempting to burn down occupied jails. should be prosecuted heavily too, but the DoJ takes care of their supporters, and they walked, collecting the bail money provided by donations, as solicited by Kamala Harris, for example, in their pockets, as pay for their work on behalf of the Democrats.
Epps whispered in the ear of man responsible for 1st exterior breach; ran up the stairs with a bunch of Proud Boys and at least a few informants; interfered with police; and remained on restricted grounds for over an hour.
He's literally everywhere on the west side from before Congress started joint session until after they recessed.
So strange that they guy who said "We need to go into the Capitol" is the one J6er whom Democrats like gadfly defend at every turn. Maybe he isn't a Fed, but the fact that he was in the Oath Keepers is not evidence that he wasn't. Look at the Whitmer plot, that group was rife with Feds.
Jamie, I think “what makes me angry” is a relative clause. In which case, “statements” is the subject, and “are” is the correct verb. (Notice here, “statements” is the subject, not “statements” are the subject, because “subject” is the subject!)
As you can see, he was charged with knowingly entering and remaining in a restricted area, not with simply exercising his free speech rights. I guess you get four Pinocchios.
The sentence "What makes me angry are the statements they keep making." is not strictly grammatically correct. The issue lies in the subject-verb agreement. The subject "What" is singular and refers to a singular entity, which is "the statements they keep making." Thus, the verb should also be singular.
The grammatically correct sentence should be: "What makes me angry is the statements they keep making."
However, it's worth noting that in casual speech and writing, people might overlook this kind of mistake, and the original sentence could be understood without confusion. But for formal contexts, it's essential to maintain proper subject-verb agreement
I mean, you have "What is he doing?" and "What are they doing." which suggest that the verb doesn't agree with "what" at all, and it is not really the subject of the sentencer at all. So I asked Chat about that:
OK, instead of relaying ChatGPT's extensive analysis of the sentence, I am going to quote one paragraph from it, which I think kind of explains it, and after it, Chat suggests a rephrase if you are uncomfortable with how a sentence sounds.
The word "what" in these kinds of sentences often tends to take a singular verb form, especially when it's functioning as a placeholder or representing an unknown entity. It's almost as if the construction begins with an assumption of singularity, which is then specified or clarified as the sentence progresses.
I think that this construction is primarily for spoken English. End of rabbit hole.
I'll believe it's a crisis in Ukraine when the people there start acting like it's crisis. The people of Kyiv are out partying rather than fighting on the front, or buying Ukrainian Liberty bonds to fund the war.
No $24B for Ukraine. We need an audit of the current subsidies and arms shipments. How much of that has been funneled back to Nancy Pelosi and Joe "China owns me!" Biden?
The Kennedy's need abortion to cover up their bad behavior...so this doesn't surprise me in the least. Because it is so courageous to be a leftist today when half the country is forced to think like you or be cancelled.
“Zelensky just said in the U.N. that the reason Ukraine gave up its nukes was because they were unable to bypass the launch codes.”
He may have said that but it is hardly believable. If you have the physics package, including a core, the explosive lenses, the initiator, the tampers, etc, you can make your own detonator system even if you have to get some black market klixons. Ukraine has a very sophisticated arms industry and can make their own cruise missiles. Ukrainians are not dumber than the North Koreans or Pakistanis are they?
Democrats are desperate to keep Donald Trump off the primary ballots. They're going to be in for a rude awakening if they succeed. His name may not be on the printed ballot, but you can bet it'll be on the turned-in ballots after the Republican voters write it in. I can see a pissed off electorate giving the Democrat apparatchiks a big middle finger salute to their non-democratic behavior. I see landslide-size votes for DJT.
I'm sure Zelensky, who was what, fifteen when the Uke de-nuke deal was made, knows exactly what the reasoning was . . . and don't forget, he's a comedian.
Pols say a lot of things. According to Zeihan, the late E. Prigozhin confessed to rigging the 2016 election for Trump. If "confessed" is the right word, but the claim has a certain cynical wit.
I just said that that is what Zelensky said. But the weapons were not built by Ukraine and did not belong to Ukraine, and none of the other nuclear powers wanted Ukraine and the other former Soviet republics to have them, so too bad, so sad.
Could have prevented the whole mess by listening to Donald Trump and accepting National Guard troops.
Three days before Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving rejected Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund’s request for National Guard help because Mr. Irving said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would “never go for it,” Mr. Sund testified before a House subcommittee on Sept. 19. - ZeroHedge
Yes the DOJ got a tit in the wringer over Epps, they can’t give him any serious time or he may spill the plot, so they have to let him off with a plea deal or no punishment. Being painted into a corner, they just shove the episode up the public’s ass and hope they can deny until next November. I am really surprised they charged him at all. They would have been better off just letting him go without any charges and playing stupid if asked about it. That would prevent an uncooperative judge from challenging a plea deal.
If 100 cars drive by a cop doing 10 mph over the speed limit, and only one flips off the cop, and that guy gets pulled over and gets a ticket, I don't care what it says on the ticket, that guy was ticketed for flipping off a cop.

The sentence "What makes me angry are the statements they keep making." is not strictly grammatically correct. The issue lies in the subject-verb agreement. The subject "What" is singular and refers to a singular entity, which is "the statements they keep making." Thus, the verb should also be singular.

And Carolines kids is a geek who is brainwashed. Biden is a great president?? His Grandfather is rolling over in his grave.
Another Anti WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GOVERNMENT DOING TO US song...
He sounds like Eminem. It is good if you like that kind of music. And it ends with George Carlin telling us how little the Government cares about us.

If it was restricted, jim, why did the authorities invite him in?
Epps was in the same restricted area. Why do you guys all seem to defend a guy who was all over the place urging people to enter the Capitol.
Nobody invades countries that possess (known) nukes. A lesson for the world.
If 100 cars drive by a cop doing 10 mph over the speed limit, and only one flips off the cop, and that guy gets pulled over and gets a ticket, I don't care what it says on the ticket, that guy was ticketed for flipping off a cop.
