That made the three indictments sound like the equivalent of stick-borne fried food — stick-borne fried food that Trump gets to hog while everyone else is "starved."
August 10, 2023
"Over decades of presidential campaigns, the Iowa way has been to hop from town to town, taking questions from all comers and genuflecting to the local culinary traditions."
"Going everywhere and meeting everyone has been the gospel of how to win over voters in the low-turnout midwinter caucuses that kick off the American presidential cycle.
Now former President Donald J. Trump is delivering what could be a death blow to the old way.... If any of his dozen challengers hope to stop his march to a third straight nomination, they will almost certainly have to halt, or at least slow, him in Iowa after spending the better part of a year making their case. A commanding victory by Mr. Trump could create a sense of inevitability around his candidacy.... As Mr. Trump and nearly all of his Republican rivals converge in the coming days at the Iowa State Fair, the annual celebration of agriculture and stick-borne fried food will serve as the latest stage for a nationalized campaign in which the former president and his three indictments have left the rest of the field starved for attention.
'You’ve got to do it in Iowa, otherwise it’s gone, it’s all national media,' said Doug Gross, a Republican strategist who was the party’s nominee for governor of the state in 2002. 'The chance to show that he’s vulnerable is gone. You’ve got to do it here, and you’ve got to do it now.'"

The mob left installed their corrupt mob-crook in 2020. ..and will more than likely get away with it again in 2024. (not matter who the **Hitler nom is on team-R for 2024)
Trump's supporters want cumupance. I don't blame them at all. I do too, in many ways.
I just don't think Trump is very good at this. His blind spots are many... and he is all talk... and his talk is cheap and he sounds dumb.
The fast decline of our greedy nation is at hand. Trump will not save us. Sorry, folks.
Your link loops back to this post, Ann.
I'd love to see selfie youtubes of a candidate chatting with the FFA kids about their animals, or at the KofC BBQ booth talking about the food. Yes, I'm hopeful Bobby will load his channel with great content, but a state fair is such an interesting place for any candidate to show personality if they're willing to get messy.
Now that we no longer have free and fair elections those clinging bitterly to the old traditions will continue having trouble making sense of reality.
Trump is just running from the law, but with a campaign slogan.
When was the last time Trump talked about his vision for America? The economy, trade, entitlement reform, etc? His campaign rallies are just grievance sessions. His supporters continue to blow my mind. A good reminder of how irrational and sheep-like the masses can be (the Left has its version too).

Just a reminder: last time they had so much trouble cooking the caucus they just made up a winner long after a winner was relevant...
The Democrats are showing their real intentions for the country. Maybe a lot of people don't want to live in a police state run by "The Intelligence Community." The real question is whether b=vote fraud can be beaten. I don't know.
Trump has at least a plurality of GOPers, and they are unlikely to budge. So we are likely to get a replay of 2020 and 2022, assuming Joe stays sentient.
What exactly is Trump running on, by the way, besides resentment and FUs to the left? Build the wall, and this time I mean it? Drain the swamp, ditto? Lock her up? Reappoint his good buddy Chris Wray? Bust the budget a bit more--or less, for a change? More faucism when dealing with another virus? Get out of Ukraine like we got out of Afghanistan on his watch--or not, or something? Or is he running to become the yuuugest loser in American political history just as he was the most surprisingly yuuuge winner in '16?
create a sense of inevitability around his candidacy
We hear this crap EVERY presidential cycle for the last 30-plus years. "Oh, it's over," they insist, before people in 80 percent of the states have had a say in the matter.
And more than once come convention time, a vast majority of the party thinks their candidate is awful and they bemoan, "What did we do? Now we're stuck." Nominating a LOSER is rarely the way to victory. Especially one that is by now a dinosaur, who makes everything all about HIM, who is only running to try to get some kind of vindication for his last crash and burn, having no real interest in being president. Despite the feverish insanity from his mouth-foaming sycophants, a majority of voters will not vote for him and certainly will not vote for four to five more years of this incessant drama. A vote for him is ultimately a vote for President Harris. But that won't stop the usual SFBs.
The reality is Trump has already been to Iowa several times, so it is just chicken bone scraps left for everyone else.
Pretty sure that's not how it worked for the Dems in the last (stolen) election.
If I had to bet, I'd bet that there is a better chance of Trump being the republican nominee in 2024 than Biden being the Democratic nominee.
I forgot that Iowa voted for Gore and Obama.
President Trump's victory tour kicks off in Iowa.
Corn dogs and deep fried twinkies for everyone!
Wait until people hear Vivek in the debate. His stock will rise dramatically.
I never seen any presidential candidate remotely like him. Smartest person I have ever met.
"...stick-borne fried food..." Must be gettin' 'bout due for 'nother NYT article about how them sharecropper wimmin in the Saouth eat clay when they-uns is p'egnant.
Iowa is a test for Trump to measure whether he has the desire, energy and time to run a successful campaign. He has lost whatever he had in 2016. He has no vision, only a collection of grievances and a desire for revenge. We can vote for a candidate who doesn't carry those burdens.
Trump will need to stay away from debates because he sounds like a dumbass. His fans love him anyway.
The Trump derangement is strong here today.
Republican politicians like Agnew had been skewering the credentialed elite--"nattering nabobs of negativity"--since the 70s. They shrugged them off until Trump. For whatever reason, the Meritocracy seems to believe he threatens to actually make them stick-borne fried food, the nabob kabob.
The secret of the Iowa State Fair is to hold off on the fried-food-on-a stick offerings, go straight to the Cattleman’s Beef Quarters behind the Giant Slide, and order the hot beef sundae - mashed potatoes, shredded beef, gravy, cheese and a cherry tomato on top. If you aren’t up for the trip to Des Moines, you can make it at home.
I like the chickens with the fuzzy feet…
The Trump derangement is strong here today
Ninety percent of those deranged commenters voted for Trump. Twice.
A good reminder of how irrational and sheep-like the masses can be (the Left has its version too).

Chuck is sad. Those country club days were great.
No indictments? Guess the system doesn't fear you. It may be that being indicted by the current legal system while Hunter Biden skates is a new form of primary. Or, let's say, a new force in primaries, as using television was new back in the Sixties. Who is the challenger? Who is the friend of oligarchs?

well.. NO. The plan is (should be, anyway) to go to the Pork Producers tent.. Say hello to which ever counties Pork Princesses are there that day.. and get a pork chop.
Then, later.. Mosey over to in front of the sheep barns and get some lamb kabobs from the Sheep Producers. But, YEA. Food on stix is for saps. No funnel cake.. THAT is Different
The “novel” indictments prove Trump’s derision of the DOJ. It’s not rocket science here. I’d rather someone else too, given the psychosis that presents when he’s in the news. But until this corrupt boil is lanced, he’s the guy. He’s my guy. Vivek next.
sb. Not funnel cake
and YEAH, lamb kabobs Technically ARE food on stix
Rarely visiting compared to the rest of them?
Come on, political reporters. Reinforce yourselves with some corn dogs and do better.

Yep.
Gas was under 2 dollars a gallon. The stock market was booming. The country exported petroleum products. Unemployment was lower than it had been in decades. We weren't at war with anybody. Putin stayed on his side of the Dnieper and kept his mouth shut. Same with Lil'Kim. A guy, or a gal, with real blue collar skills could make a shit ton of money. What's not to like?
Did you vote for Biden? More than once? Are you proud of the direction the country is going in?
Do you have a public sector job?
