"What surgeons continually emphasized—the implanters with pride, the explanters with dismay—was that most of the men they were seeing had been of at least average size..."

"... before going under the knife.... 'Most don’t have anything physically wrong with them at all, so what they don’t need is vultures preying on them, which is almost always a disaster,' Muir, the London urologist, said. ... Muir conducted a literature review called 'Surgical and Nonsurgical Interventions in Normal Men Complaining of Small Penis Size.' The research showed that men dissatisfied with their penises respond well to educational counselling about the average size, which is 3.6 inches long when flaccid, and 5.2 inches erect.... For men who have an excessive and distorted preoccupation with the appearance of their genitals—a form of body dysmorphic disorder—Muir said that cognitive-behavioral therapy and medications may also be necessary. Penuma surgeons told me they use educational videos, intake surveys, and sexual-health therapists to make sure that the men they operate on have realistic expectations and to screen for those with body dysmorphia, though only a handful of the patients I spoke to recalled being referred to a therapist before their surgery...."

Much more at the link, including harrowing details of surgery and its side effects, impressively described — e.g., "Then, in a stage known as 'degloving,' he began to flip the penis inside out through the hole he’d created at its base. Wearing the marbled interior flesh around his fingers, he trimmed the soft tissue and cauterized a series of superficial blood vessels, speckling the interior of the shaft with dark dots. For a few moments, a quivering red sphere popped up like a jellyfish surfacing at sea—an inverted testicle, he explained."

This is whack. Bad risk/reward equation.

I have always suspected that the issues men had who had penile enlargement in most cases have nothing to do with penis size. Same point with much, but not all, of trans community. Psychotherapy thru surgery.

Restated, what if it goes wrong and doesn’t work? Huge downside!

You like that sort of thing, go read Mary Roach's account in the book "Grunt" of how modern military surgeons reconstruct dicks. The trick is to make the interior tubing hairless, for which they use cheek skin from the inside of the mouth.

All of our modern slicery-dicery doesn't pay for itself, and getting normal men to go for this is just a small part of the trend of using human bodies to satisfy antihuman ideologies with inhuman technic. Exactly the sort of marriage that Nietzsche called Barbarism, and even a bit Kafkaesque (In the Penal Colony).

I would suspect that "educational" videos are a big contributor to the men feeling worried in the first place.

When The New Yorker stays away from politics, it can be very good. I’d say have Ava report on the trans industry now.

The highlighting of body dysmorphia reminds me of Hunter Biden's self-diagnosis. If there is nothing wrong with these men, why are there so many doctors who are willing to indulge their risky decisions? Why are there doctors who are willing to indulge normal women who want butt implant surgery, which may have a mortality risk as high as 1 in 2,500? Whatever happened to first do no harm?

This is so 20th century. The obvious 21st-century solution is to get dysmorphic men to identify as penises.

Some women say they prefer a larger penis, most say it doesn’t matter, but most men suspect that most women prefer them large. Meanwhile, most of the penises most men get to see are in porn. (What other opportunities are there?) Porn being what it is, that means the smallest penis most men get to see is their own.

So of course they feel insecure about it.

Female circumcision? Bad.

Male penis enlargement? Bad.

Trans gender surgery for children? Good.

Dos this make sense to anyone?

Now do female breast enlargement.

It's cosmetic, as opposed to therapeutic, plastic surgery. It's the same as a calf implant, or a hair transplant, or a pectoral implant, or any other such procedure. It's more about feelings than function.

Medical doctors making millions off of the unhappiness of ordinary people, without treating the actual illness (if any).

You are fucking up their lives (and their bodies) for money.

Remember when people were trying to describe cringe? If you read the procedural description, have a penis, and didn't cringe or otherwise feel extreme discomfort, either you're not a man or you're Elliot Page.

IF insurance is going to pay for:
breasts for boys, and
penis enlargements for girls..

WHY isn't it required to pay for
breasts for girls, and
penis enlargements for boys?

i mean, other than
a) it would bankrupt america
b) it would increase happiness in america, which is THE OPPOSITE of democrat intentions

An article in The National Lampoon provided some first-rate educational counselling about this concern. The first part established, through interviews with women, that size was very important. The second part revealed that average size was, as I recall, roughly three times the dimensions given in the quote above.

I don't there is any real doubt about it- it is all a form of mental illness, and treating it surgically is just damned stupid for the most part.

It's a bit like saying someone can be happy without money. It's absolutely true, but all other things being equal, you'd prefer that thing in your pocket to be big. Your wallet, I mean.

The medical psychopaths and pseudoscientific quacks in power happily exploit others with mental illnesses for profit these days. This is literally, truly, actually what happened in Nazi Germany leading up to their Aryan breeding centers and concentration camps.

If they had a surgical. technique as effective as what they have for women's breasts, they would have to be making pants with three legs.

There's something niggling at the back of my mind--about how the surgery described here and the need for extensive counseling before any surgeon would undertake this ghastly cutting--are reminding me of another current problem. Whatever could it be?

Sad to say, there really is such a thing as too small but a dedicated lover can probably work out many ways to still have a satisfying sex life with a loving and committed partner.

I thought we were always supposed to endorse people's body image? isn't that the "trans rule"?

A huge penis didn't work out that great for John Holmes or Ron Jeremy. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so. On the other hand, the women they worked with were either great actresses or there's some advantage to having an oversized member.
