At the Smoky Café...

... there's no sunrise, but go ahead and talk all night.

My Mets are hosting the Milwaukee Brewers for the rubber game of their 3 game matchup.

If the Mets lose, they will have not won a series for the entire month of June.

They are imploding. They have the largest payroll, but are not hitting or pitching.

I forgot that the Brewers were previously an American League team, descendants of the Seattle Pilots.

Paris is showing us what an actual insurrection looks like. As a matter of fact, it looks a lot like Portland or Minneapolis, but nothing like J6.

Waa-aah, at Smokey Joe's Café
Waa-aah, at Smokey Joe's Café
...
One day while I was drinking Bud Lite (at Smokey Joe's Café)
Just sittin', diggin', feelin' alrite (at Smokey Joe's Café)
A chick came walking through the door
That I had never seen before
...
I could smell her sweet perfume
She smiled at me, my heart went boom
Then everybody in the room (at Smokey Joe's Café)
They said "man be careful, that chick used to be Smokey Joe"
....
Yes, I know I'll never drink again (at Smokey Joe's Café)
And so we'll never meet again (at Smokey Joe's Café)
I'd rather drink my Modelo
At Jack's or Juan's or Carmelo's
Than taking my chances down (at Smokey Joe's Café)
...

I'm in Chicago for a few days. It was smoky when we arrived yesterday but much better today. The taxi driver said that Tuesday was way worse than yesterday.

I stopped following MLB when they knee jerk canceled the All-Star game in Atlanta a few years ago, but I am going to void my boycott for one day to attend the Friday afternoon game at Wrigley tomorrow because it's a pop cultural event that I want to attend with my new partner. The Cubs game is not why we are here. We are here because I was born here and she had never been to Chicago and we wanted to do a big city thing. We did the Architecture Tour last night and we were at the Art Institute all day today with the exception our walking to the nearby Giordano's for lunch before returning.

My new partner is a Korean woman who is my age. She married a US serviceman in the early eighties and she was widowed several years ago. I was calling her my GFFL which I thought was better than just girlfriend but still not quite right. We considered fiancé but that term also seems a little silly at this age even though we probably will marry. We settled on partner, agreeing that the gays having co-opted that term has not diminished the appropriateness for our situation. The weather seems like it will be perfect. Hope so. We leave on Sunday.

Update: Mets lose

It was a 4 game series with Milwaukee, Brewers taking 3 of 4.

Perfect weather here in Pugetopolis. 75F, partly cloudy skies, NO SMOKE. Smoke season here, if it occurs is August and September, maybe October.

July 4 forecast is 89F. An old saying is summer starts on July 5. July 4 is usually cold and cloudy. Not this year.

It’s interesting that with 13-minute videos questioning the safety of vaccine regulation and decades of precedent overturned by the courts to prevent colleges from assembling student bodies that actually reflect society and reverse pernicious discrimination, only the shortest comments seem to be going through. Brevity is great when such fundamental changes and outrageous claims are made! The last thing we’d want are literate and well-informed responses to things like that; entertainment, servile agreement and frivolous applause is much better.

Yeah, guys- b/c it’s HERE. Smoke rolled in last night and it’s very bad this morning. I can’t say it smells bad. So far. I have a slight headache- which is fine.

Whiskeybum, pretty sure it’s you that’s visiting this weekend in Burlington? I hope it’s better for you there.
Have a good one!!

So if this new case means that discriminating based on race for college admissions is impermissible, but taking an individual's unique experience with dealing with racism is ok, does that mean if this new practice disproportionately impacts Asian and White applicants that that practice would be deemed racially discriminatory and thus back to impermissible? Or does it mean that practices that disproportionately impact particular races are no longer presumed impermissible?

I have a mountain view, so I’m usually aware of smoke, and usually it’s something that you see in August, but you would never smell it, and I have never had trouble seeing a peak that is thirty miles away if it’s otherwise clear. This is next level. Hills eight miles away look milky white right now on a clear day, and it’s not even bad today.

When the Feds start targeting REAL insider traders, like Nancy Pelosi let me know. Otherwise this just looks like they are targeting ANYBODY who has anything to do with Trump. It is getting more and more ridiculous every day the hoops they are jumping through to get TRUMP.

My reply to her:

The real question is why Democrat-run schools fail so miserably at educating Black Kids. It's almost like they're designed to fail to keep Black Americans in poverty and voting for Democrats. What a scam.

The talking points are out! "Decades of Precedent!" Rinse and repeat.

Racial discrimination is the law of the land! How dare the Supreme Court say that racial discrimination is unconstitutional.

(Sorry--more low humor. Actually a rhetorical device, but whatever).

“ The last thing we’d want are literate and well-informed responses to things like that…”

If you want to sound smart, you should run your comments through GPT4, and tell it to rewrite your post as if you had two extra neurons to rub together. I would suggest that you leave out “literate,” as it’s irrelevant to your point, or maybe you are just a sloppy thinker; the final clause suggests community college, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I have never denied that I went to State U, myself.

Harvard and Yale served America better when there were only 100 million of us.

Want to know how brain dead our media is? This morning a writer in my hometown newspaper wrote an article on the above mentioned PA DEP's code orange alert. After reading it, I wrote an email to him asking him to check on the DEP advising PA residents to shutoff their gas stoves during the duration of the alert. He didn't get my joke. He responding that he would check ... and he did! He responded again detailing the Feds view of gas appliances but could find nothing about PA's DEP advisory. Made me laugh.
