Why is DeSantis peeling an orange?

I haven't read the Time article, and I don't know why I should. I got the image from a Daily Mail article about it, "'Trump is NOT going to be happy!' Ron DeSantis' first Time cover depicts him eating an ORANGE in apparent dig at his GOP arch-rival - who's graced magazine's cover 35 times," and I haven't read that article, only the title.

The title is ridiculous. Why would this absurd image make Trump unhappy? If DeSantis has Time on his side (to coin a phrase), it's not going to help him with conservatives.

And "eating an ORANGE"... he's not eating an orange. He's peeling an orange.

But I've got to admit that idiotic headline helped me understand why he's peeling an orange. I was puzzled and had to force myself to think about it. I thought: Oranges ≈ Florida. The Governor of Florida, soundly cupping the orange with one hand and tearing into it with the other, is saying Florida is mine, I control Florida.

But seeing The Daily Mail say that he's "eating" the orange in an "apparent dig at" Trump, I remember that Trump has long been derided as the "orange man." For some reason Trump has colored himself orange — dyed his skin and hair orange — and no amount of pointing and mockery and caricature will dissuade him from his color choice. It's a trademark.

So I'm convinced that Time intends the orange to be seen as Trump's head. The Daily Mail calls it a painting, so I'm going to assume that this is an artist's illustration and they didn't get DeSantis to pose holding and tearing into an orange. Notice the juice dripping down all over his hands. Such brutal orange peeling! Brutal and messy. What man in a suit would handle an orange like that? The idea is that's Trump's head and the powerful, remorseless DeSantis will obliterate the orange man.

But, good for Time. You made me look. You made me write a much longer blog post than you deserve. I don't care what you've got to say about DeSantis. Your text is just filler to back this image.

I haven’t read the article either, but my read is it’s about Florida, since the title is “What Ron DeSantis means for America”. He’s reshaped the state a bit, including nixing Disney’s exclusive property holdings. That could be what the messy peeling is about. It would be a tell for what he would do to America.

So it’s asking if the juice has been worth the squeeze wrt Florida.

Of course, that's a painting. A painting to make DeSantis as menacing looking as possible. I won't bother with reading the article, I can be confident it is a sly knife in the ribs to DeSantis.

The FBI had at least four open criminal investigations into Hillary and Bill Clinton that were suddenly dropped in the months before the 2016 presidential election, special counsel John Durham’s recently released report shows.
Three of the FBI’s four investigations that were launched in early 2016 were looking into allegations that the Clinton Foundation has a hub of “criminal activity.”
All four probes were dropped ahead of the 2016 election — several of which at the direction of senior FBI officials who had close ties to the Clintons.

What Time does not understand is that a large number of American voters saw jovial, rude, rollicking Trump get attacked from every quarter for his entire candidacy and presidency, and might just want a serious, frowning, unhappy asskicker for their next White House occupant.

Goodness knows DeSantis would not take the attacks Trump took with the same equanimity, with the same lack of response.

Or is the article a question to a frowning DeSantis:

"The Daily Mail say that he's "eating" the orange in an "apparent dig at" Trump ..."

This is why people LOATHE the media; not merely hate it but want it to literally die in a fire.

Ron DeSantis had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with that cover. That's not a photograph of Ron DeSantis. He did not pose for that cover. TIME Magazine drew/painted that cover. That's TIME taking a dig at Trump, not Ron Desantis.

Get this straight; the media are attempting to create the narrative of Ron DeSantis so they can destroy him later. If he's smart, he understands that the media ... ALL MEDIA ... is his mortal enemy. He needs a way to communicate DIRECTLY with voters.

The GOP is way behind the Democrats in identifying who the voters are, and using Big Tech to manipulate the news stories and messaging that each individual voter sees in the run-up to the election. What gets put in each individual voter's timelines. There is no broadcasting. Each individual voter is presented with a view of the Democrat candidate that is tailor-made for that voter's desires. The GOP is horribly behind in this technology.

I suspect the GOP doesn't even realize this is being done; much less HOW it's being done.

More than worth it. DeSantis is the reason I moved from NC to Florida in July, 2020. During a visit with a friend in Florida one month earlier, we were sitting on the veranda of a restaurant in the Villages, maskless and drinking a cold beer while watching people golfers on the course when we realized all the Bull Shit Covid rules in NC were just that - Bull Shit. It was like escaping from a dystopian, arbitrary, repressive, fascist state to freedom. Over the last three years DeSantis proved most of the onerous Covid restrictions were not only unnecessary but foolish and harmful, and he correctly reasoned that keeping the economy alive and the schools open was so much more humane than needlessly turning the state into a prison without bars. I'll always be greatful to him for doing the right thing in the face of withering criticism from Covidiots, Democrats and the media.

Suck it Cuomo!!

Drago म्हणाले...

Bill Zhang at 9:53 has it right, but with one major caveat.

The GOPe does know how the dems do what they do. But for the GOP/RNC to replicate that capability would take quite alot of money that would then not be available for their insider consultant deals where they just pocket the cash.

The GOP GOTV apps and databases are all out of date, have the wrong info, dont work properly, etc. But the consultants that own those contracts are favored and the RNC forces GOP candidates to use them.

Because whereas the dems will spend whatever it takes to get power and win on policy, republicans only use their power to rake in cash and dont really care about policy losses.

Not surprising since probably 50% of these GOP/RNC types support most of the dem/uniparty agenda anyway.

These cats will never actually spend the several hundred million or so it would take to do this. Its too hard. Less cash on hand at the end, lets face it, that new beach home ain't gonna just build itself now, is it?

It is way past time to start calling a spade a spade and fascists fascists.

This is not a very elegant way to peel and serve an orange. Many people don't want to eat the rind, it's usually used as a flavoring. Professional chefs usually slice, then cut off the peel with a knife, that way you can grate the peel and rind for baking cookies, salads, etc.

Lots of Youtube videos on how to center and quarter an orange, but I guess they do things differently in Florida.
