I remember a few years ago when 2 million a year was an unprecedented crisis.And a month ago when 85000 lost migrated children was a scandal. Already ignored.
In the history of humankind, when this type of thing happens, the powerful country goes and takes over the failed country.
When you view everything through what the options are, you quickly identify the right solution:
1. Put effort into barring such migration - impossible over a huge border
2. Allow such immigration - problematic to your country
3. Ignore such immigration - problematic and leads to what we are currently seeing
4. Try to stop the migration in the adjoining countries - what Trump did
5. Go the source country and fix the issue there, either through investment or taking over a failed state
I've watched this saga unfold over 30 years now. I've seen numbers between 250,000 to now nearing 5 million a year as estimates. I've watched my communities fill with people who try to stay off the radar, while providing necessary and important services to the community. I've seen groups of such people get abused because they are basically near the bottom of an informal caste system.
And I've seen our political try #1 through #4 above, and shy away from #5.

Already. Any semblance of surge is an illusion only possible to achieve if one believes Mayorkas’ oft repeated lies about the “border is secure.” And like the endless public fretting by Biden officials saying the word “default” over and over to spook the world they keep saying “we’ll get a surge when Title 42 expires” in order to try and fulfill their prophecies. Failure Theatre writ large.
One dead child is a tragedy. But 85,000 children imported to be sex slaves and “lost” by the Biden administration by handing them over to Cartel members? Just a statistic those mean republicans pounced upon.

The Texas Governor can continue to bus them to Chicago, where the Mayor stashes them in hotels that aren't open. This won't end well.

My phone is currently loaded with enough illegal alien, undocumented migrant, competent and skilled day laborers that I can do any maintenance and repair on rentals required, from new roofing to replacing the sewer lines out front, and everything in between. Their price here in Austin has gone up 50% in the last two years, from $15/hour to $20/hour last year to $25/hour this year, because their rents & expenses keep rising here and the money they need to send home to family to feed them and pay the cartel mordida doesn't go as far as it used to, so they need more.
If Austin gets another 25,000 immigrant laborers in the next year, my cost of labor might decrease a bit due to increased competition, but all the workers will be on starvation wages. I'd think all that would lead to either workers organizing into union-like groups, or heading to greener welfare pastures like Chicago and New York, or becoming less law-abiding in their own self-interest. Maybe all of that will happen, and high-welfare states might see an increase in property crimes and heavier welfare rolls and more welfare fraud, and all of it by organized groups of migrants, perhaps run by cartels. Oh, the excitement of waiting to see what happens!

Biden's press secretary, KJP stated that illegal alien border crossing had been reduced by 90% under his administration. Maybe those lining up now to cross the border are just that "pent-up" 90% that have been refused entry due to our "closed and secure" border policies over the last two years.

Also, I've yet to find an open border supporter who has been willing to give up their home and job to one of these illegal aliens. The Biden Administration wasn't actually enforcing Title 42, so there actually won't be a huge change. Almost no one who was coming across the border and applying for asylum was being turned away- they are being given a court date and sent on their way to wherever they want, often at government expense, mostly to the big cities in the still politically red states- Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Tampa, Nashville, Lexington, Raleigh, Atlanta, Little Rock, New Orleans, Kansas City etc.

That call is for YOU and YOUR GUYS to pass the laws to allow the immigration to be increased and have the people in here legally rather than fostering a program that results in exploitation. I know this became an issue for you just 20 minutes ago. But it isn't about covid. It is about things like TB, Polio the Measles, chicken pox. Diseases we had for all intents and purposes wiped out in this country.
One of the few things our constitution demands that our federal government do for us is to protect us.
