Listening to Ron DeSantis?

On Twitter... I think it's supposed to be here. Not really seeing it though....

At the NYT: "Live Updates: DeSantis Stumbles Out the Gate With a Twitter Meltdown."

ADDED: At one point I was able to hear some of it, but I think I'd just as soon read about it.

Ron is killing it. He is really articulating his vision. The format is good. It's like the radio, with a chat room.

But of course all anyone will mention is the Twitter glitch at the beginning.

DeSantis didn't do well?

Says the NYT!?

OK.

Have to say good-bye to Nikki, Vivek, Asa, Tim, Chris, etc.

Don v. Ron

Let's get ready to rummmmmmble!

They had to move it off Elon's account and onto someone with fewer followers.

I'm watching on YouTube via a political blogger's account.

Thought I would be underwhelmed by DeSanctous, but he brought his 'A' game. Props.

Not a good look. Those 93 year old donors aren't up to the latest tech stuff.

Gusty Winds said...

Guessing it crashed. Traffic or hacker. Probably traffic.

DeSantis is ticking off all his policy positions in a very lucid well thought out way. Very strong.

Someone said the questions are planted. Maybe so, but he's running down every position in a very strong way.

Limited blogger said...

Ron DeSantis is running Florida like a country of it's own.

And that's a good thing.

Where is Drago? We need his strong pro-Trump voice or else before you know it, this space will be filled with DeSantis fans! Can’t have that!

I thought Musk just had a big announcement, blogged about here, that he now has video on Twitter. DeSantis accepted audio? He would have done as well with public access cable, Wayne's World would have been better.

David Ermer said...

Twitter did not offer a link to DeSantis's announcement. I and many, many others tried to access the announcement through Musk's Twitter account, That's what caused the meltdown.

Limited blogger said...

LOL! Trump's crashing Ron-rocket is perfect.

I knew he'd take a swipe.

Gusty Winds said...

Scott Adams on Twitter..."DeSilence". The instant memes flying around are hilarious.

I'm an Elon Musk and Ron DeSantis fan, but what a fuck up. Your announcement for President crashes.

Bishop Fulton Sheen could pull 30 million viewers in the 1950s, and his show never crashed. Funny. The airwaves are still more reliable. Elvis pulled in what, half the country?

Something a President should know when trying to speak to the nation.

For us office worker drones, who've spent the last three years (or longer) on Teams and Zoom, online glitchiness is very much the norm and we're used to it, it's factored into how we relate and adjust to things, it doesn't detract as it's just part of what IS, the reality since March 2020, at leeast for a lot of us average, ordinary not billionaire or political lifer types.

Read that Twitter melted down from the interest at first but they got it going. Trying to find a Youtube of the question session.

If a tree falls in the forest, and nothing living is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If DeSantis' Presidential announcement crashes while millions of people are trying to tune in, does it make a sound?

And everyone said Trump was stupid for doing the CNN Townhall.

I want to vote for someone that will use the power of the government to punish private companies when those private companies don't express support for what I want them to say re gay/et. al. stuff.

And of course it goes w/o saying that I want to vote for someone that will criminalize people re folks doing things re themselves re these folks are making choices that I don't want them to choose for themselves.

Also a dude w/ smarmy vibes would be a good fit for me. I like seeing my characteristics in others.

In a perfect world I'd be able to find a candidate that would crash Twitter because of viewer numbers that are even smaller than the failing CNN's numbers after a 61% drop in viewers at CNN. Cause that would prove that the woke brain worn made Twitter take down Hunter dick picks when the Biden campaign requested that the dick picks be taken down. Hence Critical Racist Theory and Drag Queen Story Hour and your kids' schools wants to cut off your kids' dicks and tits. Also the frogs were turned gay. Duh!

Finally I'd like an Ivy League dude with a girly/dorky voice.

So w/ an unbiased, open mind I'll go ahead and listen to this Ron dude such that I can see for myself if he checks the boxes on my list of requirements.

...........

OMG! This Ron dude is exactly what I'm looking for!!!

I see it's all over Twitter "servers melted", "nobody could watch". Yeah, I'm certain Elon is such a weak marketer he was unaware of probable traffic. So, now everybody's talking about the announcement, searching for it, waiting for the other media to report it, dying to view it. As I don't "do" MSM nor (un)Social Media I'm just going by what right-of-center blogs/opinionaters are saying. Of course, these are Xiden's "super-ultra-Maga-vast-right wing-extremist-white-supremacists?

The event had a few glitches but persistence pays off and but it ended up being great.
Good questions from all that people they lined up.

And Limited Blogger: DeSantis is running the state according to what the citizens who elected their representatives want to have happen.

Also Michael K DeSantis will get those 93 year old donors later. He needs the younger generation now. That what this Twitter Spaces was all about. Though my husband & I, old farts that we are, were able to listen to the majority of the event.

It wasn't a disaster, and the crashing servers, while embarrassing, aren't a major failure. However, I think that he came across as a policy wonk, and that will hurt him more. It was very good. A very solid 75 minutes of policy. He speaks well, intelligently about a broad range of topics. He is so not Trump...and I mean that in a good way. DeSantis is already striking fear in both the Trump and Biden campaigns. And he is not a same old thing. He is very much his own man and thinks differently than most politicians.

All the to-do over it not coming off like a pre-packaged CNN townhall is rubbish. This was a first of a kind presentation on Twitter. It was overwhelmed and took 30 min. to get it cleaned up. I was not bothered. I figured they'd either get it, or reschedule it.

And they want to do other candidates. I'd just love to see Joe Biden talk cogently for 75 minutes about a broad range of topics. It's never happened and won't this year either. DeSantis is the real deal. Why listen to MSNBC's version of him when you can hear his own answers out of his own mouth?

Anyway, a long way to go, but this guy could be the next Prez.

Twitter is supposed to handle all 1.4 million Musk supporters simultaneously but could only handle 275,000 listeners tuned to Meatball Ron's live audio announcement on Twitter - otherwise the Monstrous Musk Servers failed.

So does this mean that DeSantis could not get prime-time coverage on Fox News?

In every case, he was articulate and extremely well-informed. Trump cannot come within a light year of speaking on the issues as DeSantis did. The more Trump indulges in name-calling, the more childish he will look compared with the mature adult Ron DeSantis.

This is going to be an extremely interesting campaign. Anyone who thinks DeSantis isn't ready for prime time is in for an education."

So being a policy wonk is bad now, eh? I think you'll be surprised at how many of us are very ready to listen to what a serious policy wonk has to say. Even if we have to wait a little longer to hear it. Or read it.

Some of us remember when the major parties had something called a platform. That was like a summary of the major policies and programs that the parties were openly committing themselves to pursuing if elected. Nowadays every party seems to be desperately hiding their real platform so the voters won't know before the election what was really going to be inflicted on them.

So yeah, I'm interested in hearing what a policy wonk says he's going to do. Especially if the state he's already governing is one that's working very well and people from many other states are escaping to it.

Bunkypotatohead said...

Most of the country does not use Twitter. So they got to hear nothing.

wildswan said...

Keep up. The feed got going and was really interesting.
Also Musk made the point that now that Twitter understood what was needed, such events could be held on Twitter all the time and this would be an end run around the MSM and their information monopoly. The suggestion was that the lockdown might not have lasted so long and been so damaging if Jay Bhattacharya or Scott Atlas, could have been heard on a massive Twitter feed.

The GOPe has been in bed with the democraticals for decades, but as predicted, Flip-side Inga and her pals are going to try and flip the script to make it look like Trump is the democrat...as if the last 7 year never happened at all.

Yeah, that should work like gang-busters!

It seems all of our "Ingas" (Regular Inga and Flip-side Inga) are going to just keep on "Inga-ing" away.

Drago said...

And DeSantis' handlers will never allow DeSantis to come within a light-year of the economic/trade/foreign policy/immigration/forever war policies Trump supported.

That's the tradeoff.

No thanks.

Dumb Lefty Mark: "Cannot wait for Drago to tell me how stupid I was about Elon's ability to do big things with Twitter.

Yes, Elon pushes his teams hard with stretch goals constantly. And they are just getting into video in a big way.

As with all things Musk, you make note of the starting point: Was this something pre-Musk twitter could do? If not, why not?

So Musk takes it on, as he takes on all new things: rapid iteration, testing and deployment. And they do it transparently. Lets see where X is with live/long form video in 3 months, 6 months, a year. That will be the test.

Dumb Lefty Mark told us Twitter would collapse early this year. Instead it is thriving with just 1000 out of 7500 original employees transparently announcing all the improvements its working on and when those improvements can be expected in the market.....and that's supposed to be a defeat?

Little minds laughing in ignorance from the cheap seats.

Now that's a perfect description of a real blowhard.

That's because without those things there is no graft. Those things generate graft.

Mark.
We're dealing with new technology here. How many times did a Redstone rocket fail to launch before one successfully launched.

Mark said...

New technology, Rusty?

Plenty of other platforms have done this sort of thing already, without massive technical hitches.

As they say, it isn't rocket science happening here

Mark said...

Rusty ... YouTube streamed live video (not just audio) of a 2020 SpaceX launch to 4 million viewers. Why can't Twitter handle audio-only streaming for a small fraction of the audience?

Twitch handles live video streams from people's homes that blow past 600k.

In a post-Zoom tech world, claiming 600k on an audio only livestream as some sort of difficult and new tech challenge is laughable.

Drago said...

Dumb Lefty Mark: "As they say, it isn't rocket science happening here"

LOL

Like you are capable of recognizing "rocket science" happening anywhere!

Yes Mark. All is lost. Its all over. Shutter the operation!

Wait a minute, you said the operation would already be shuttered by now. So why isn't it? And why are just 1000 employees able to do what 7500 were able to do before?

Oh, that's right. And its really the at heart of your hilariously petty complaints: You no longer have an army of your co=leftist censors shutting down the speech you don't care for at X (Twitter).

We'll see where X is over the next months with ALL the changes they are making, while making more and more of the code open source.

Drago said...

Dumb Lefty Mark: "Drago, Musk has been selling cars by promising Full Self Driving by 'next year' for years now. How's that going?"

It's been going fantastically well compared to ALL other competitors and it gets better with every upgrade. Tesla is in a league of its own, as any rational and informed person can see. But that excludes you, naturally.

That's the same tech that is being cross-developed as Tesla develops its robotics and X continues expands its full general artificial intelligence development with X.AI.

And it was only weeks ago that you went laughy laughy at the surprisingly successful first full test launch of Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built....by a hundred miles.

Cleared the pad, oriented itself for 5 seconds after clearing the tower, lifted off, went supersonic, passed MaxQ (I did not think it would get that far for a first test of such a massive system) and then had to be controlled detonated yet while it was spinning wildly the booster-starship combo would not come apart! Are you kidding me? A rocket that large undergoing those forces and the combo stays together. Incredible. Talk about robust design.

Can't wait for the next test flight with all the incredibly rapid iterative design changes being made at lightspeed compared to other space players (looking at you Blue Origin, ULA, LM, Boeing, et al). Notably the problem that caused the significant trouble for the first Starship launch was already design corrected for follow on launches: moving from hydraulic controlled gimballing to hydrostatic. The "fix" was already built in to the next booster sitting in the towers down the road! Amongst a hundred other improvements BEFORE Booster 7 launched.

That's how fast they move at SpaceX...and Tesla (made up of multiple companies itself)...and X (Twitter).

Meanwhile, SpaceX launches more payload to orbit than ALL the other space launch systems on Earth...combined!

Yeah, I think X (Twitter) will be just fine.

I do so enjoy these little moments of Faux Triumph you display at every minor setback to a program that is steering for greatness across the board and quickly iterating after the minor setbacks. What a horrible outlook!!! Right?

Little people mad that other people are accomplishing things and not letting little transient setbacks stop them.--Every Dumb Lefty Mark post.

Drago said...

Dumb Lefty Mark: "Hyping and launching tech way before it is ready is no sign of genius, but go ahead and tell yourself that this was a big Twitter success."

LOL

This is the future. But you keep crying your tears for legacy media as they continue to wither.

And "launching tech" "way before it is ready"?

How is it Musk was able to pull off the Twitter spaces with the BBC for over how many millions of viewers again with no glitches? You remember, the one where he caught your legacy media "truth telling" "hero" in lie after lie after lie?

Hey, the new world champion boxer won his bout decisively but did you know, he was actually punched a few times on the way to the victory....so clearly he is a failure.--Young Dumb Lefty Mark, probably.

Drago said...

Crazy World: "Does anyone think Trump will go quietly into the night?"

No, but DeSantis' GOPe advisors and globalist donors seem pretty confident their dem/deep state allies will remove Trump from the equation in the months to come.

Why DeSantis thinks that will make him look like a viable option to the republican base voters after the last 7 years is simply something these insider guys must have convinced him can be leveraged....and after Murdoch's News Corp owned publisher Harper Collins threw an estimated $8 to $10M at DeSantis for his book deal which released this year.

In addition to having kicked $250+ million to DeSantis in his gimme gov campaign with promises of another couple billion for a presidential run.

If your DeSantis, and if you're just you, wouldn't you find that deal a difficult one to turn down?
- The entire establishment party and media allies tell you they are in your corner with all the resources you'll need
- They tell you Trump will be removed by their Lawfare allies
- They tell you no one will able to compete with you the rest of way to the nomination (probably true)
- Then these GOPe-er advisors who worked for McCain and Romney and Walker and Cruz tell you they will get you to the mountaintop!!!

And that last bullet point, right there, is where DeSantis should have stopped and said..."what?!. Explain that to me in excruciating detail and convince me."

They probably just pulled a Jeb! and said: Cash.

Drago said...
