Can a lawyer explain to me how this is constitutional? What right do the Pols in SF have to give $millions to people based solely on their skin color? If SF had segregated black schools it ended in 1955.

Also, how is this not descrimination against all the OTHER people who suffered in the last 150 years?

Or does the actual wording of the civil rights law and 14th Admendment mean ANYTHING anymore?

Asians constitute one third of San Francisco's population and recently formed a key part of the political coalition that dumped the left-wing district attorney and school board members by overwhelming majorities. Maybe the displaced Japanese residents could set up their own refugee camps, just like the "Palestinians"! Could be a real tourist attraction: "come see the bomb factories and the smuggler's tunnels!" Or perhaps we should all just carry on with our lives and do our best instead of all this reparations bullshit.

Yes, yes, 1000 times yes. Please incentive the movement of the black Americans to one location in the country so that everyone else can avoid that place like the plague. I would even cut a check if any repfugees would sign binding documents that once arrived they could never leave and that their new place of residence's crime statistics could not be included in national trends.

Pretty Please do this. It's the ultimate short. Frisco would become what Australia as for 19th century Britain.

The Japanese were free to move off the west coast if they wanted, the problem being geography and cultural concentration making unpreventable espionage and sabotage too likely.

My great grandfather lost his ranch in the depression of the 1890s, ended up working for the Hearst family and died an early death. Where are my reparations? On the other side of my family, my French ancestors were Huguenots who were chased out by Catholics. Where are my reparations?

Reparations efforts will not have a happy outcome. California expressly discriminated against both the Chinese and Japanese. There were never many Black people there relative to other parts of the country. California never had a history of slavery and is 2,000 miles away from the South.

The enduring differences between racial groups is way more complicated than slavery and discrimination. IMO this is likely the high water mark of the reparations movement, and it will logically be followed by a detailed causes-responsibilities-consequences reaction. Call it a backlash perhaps.

takirks বলেছেন...

Payment of reparations will trigger a worsening of race relations in this country that you can't even imagine. Far from making things better, it will just make them far, far worse, and you'll have people looking at their tax bill to pay reparations to the people they see as having wrecked their cities and their quality of life, and wondering if it might not be better to simply eliminate the people who're owed these "reparations".

Honest fact? By the time you got done with an honest accounting for what damage black America has done to the nation, over the years? The reparations should be a wash; how much was Detroit worth, back when the Democrats took over and the blacks became the majority there? How much is white America owed for having fought the Civil War to free the blacks in the first damn place? I have ancestors who went bankrupt supporting the abolition movement, the Underground Railway, and who underwrote the black regiments like the 54th Massachusetts. Why am I going to get billed for "reparations", again? How about the significant portion of white America who's ancestry wasn't even here when slavery was in force? Or, those blacks whose ancestors were slave owners?

The people pushing for reparations have no idea what they're doing. They start that crap, and I guarantee you that there will be less than 2% of the population in the US that's identifiably black within a generation, and all of those will be denying it in order to survive. The rest will be gone, one way or another.

The honest thing for these idiots to do, if they're going to spin this up, is to tell the blacks that once they've taken the reparations, they leave and never come back to the US, including their descendants. Nothing else will save them, because I guarantee you that the first time some of those reparations-grabbing idjits start lording it over the people paying for them the way I've personally had welfare recipients tell me I'm a fool for working for my food...? There will be murders and pogroms a-plenty, especially as the economy tightens up under all the new energy restrictions of "going Green". That shit is going to be deadly for black America, and they don't even realize it.

I have trouble wrapping my head around how much the Democrats and all their hangers-on must truly hate blacks, because everything they "do for them" winds up being incredibly destructive in very real terms once it gets out into the real world.

This is a reminder that the Japanese Americans were robbed by the Roosevelt administration and corrupt California Judges and Politicians to have their legally owned property stolen out from under them for the weakest of justifications. Why were the Japanese properties not just held in trust for them instead of being liquidated at bargain prices? " ... who took cheap houses from Japanese people ..."

Took? Took?

Do you mean stole? The blacks literally STOLE these houses? Of course not.

No, they didn't. They bought those houses. The blacks don't owe the Japanese anything. Our government (Democrats, lets remember) kicked the Japanese out of our country because THEIR government attacked our nation. If black people STOLE those houses, then yes ... they owe reparations. But they didn't steal them.

Black people in the United States who are the direct descendants of slaves deserve reparations. The problem is all the other blacks demanding them also. Which is why none of them will get a dime. The black descendants need to shut the voices of all the other blacks horning in on their reparations.

RMc বলেছেন...

Black reparations is one of those things that politicians dangle in front of the voters occasionally as scare bait, like reinstituting the military draft. (Then again, I used to say that about reversing Roe v Wade, too...)

tolkein বলেছেন...

The real scam will be that reparations won't actually be paid to Blacks, but to giant trust funds administered by insiders to (a) enable the paying of high incomes to deserving insiders and (b) tackle the root causes, which will justify paying huge sums to social workers and their bosses, and will include a boost to the education budget (so Blacks can have the poor schooling they endured in the school system addressed), which will involve hiring more teachers (which will pay dues to the Democrats)and paying them more. I wouldn't be surprised if Blacks actually received little or no cash out of reparations.

Robert Marshall বলেছেন...

The only truthful thing you can say about the reparations movement now underway is that it is an evil scheme dreamed up by the Democrat party, for the sole purpose of getting their most faithful partisans stirred up, excited about the money coming their way, only to be disappointed and then (the Dems hope) massively turn out to vote in favor of those same Democrats, for having at least tried.

Reparations have zilch to do with justice. Nada. Pure evil.

If you’re gonna do reparations, limiting to black people in CA makes absolutely no sense.

Harvard Professor Raj Chetty is more diplomatic and nuanced does not disagree...the presence of the father is very important for boys:

https://opportunityinsights.org/race/

Professor Chetty writes:

* The incomes of Hispanic and Asian Americans are approaching those of white Americans over generations; those of Black Americans and American Indians are not.

* The black-white intergenerational income gap for children at the same parental income level is primarily accounted for by differences in men’s not women’s, outcomes.

* Differences in family characteristics – parental marriage rates, education, wealth – and differences in ability explain very little of the black-white intergenerational gap.

* In 99% of neighborhoods in the United States, black boys earn less in adulthood than white boys who grow up in families with comparable income.

* Both black and white boys grow up to have higher incomes from low-poverty areas, but black-white intergenerational gaps are actually larger in lower-poverty neighborhoods.

* Within low-poverty areas, black-white intergenerational gaps are smallest in areas with low levels of racial bias among whites and high rates of father presence among blacks.

* The black-white gap is not immutable. It is shaped by childhood environment. Childhood exposure to neighborhoods with higher outcomes and lower race gaps both increases outcomes and produces smaller gaps in the next generation.

takers @ 7:00PM: Come on, don't be shy. Tell us what you really think.

In fact I fear your prediction could come true, because it's psychologically true. People know --more or less-- what "just" treatment looks like, certainly when it comes to issues that aren't some technical error, that are in fact (ahem) black-and-white, when somebody is wrongly (and massively) benefited at the expense of another wrongly (and massively) burdened.

People will know that's unjust. And until injustice is acknowledged and (at least somewhat) corrected; with sincerity, they will resent it with growing anger.

Will that acknowledgment and correction occur here? Nope. Not happening; we're just getting started on this new metastatic phase of race hatred fomented by our betters, like Rev. Sharpton.

It's pure sociopolitical dynamite. Stand clear.

Reparations are a lot like sanctuary cities. A great sound bite.
"Hey, you are OWED!" "No, failure is not YOUR fault". And, as a sanctuary city, "All are welcome".

Effective to keep political support even at the cost of some racial harmony.

But then something happened. Busses of migrants started showing up in those sanctuary cities. Even though a tiny fraction of what border states have endured it stung. Suddenly you see South Side Chicagoan's being "white supremacists" and a big city mayor blaming Biden.

Reparations are like that. Popular concept on the left. Most in the middle ignored it as "never gonna happen". But now we see a couple of things. 1) elected bodies marching forward with proposals and2) Boy Howdy what plans they are.

Millions, a high income for life. Free housing.

One hopes they keep it up.

One also hopes that every race grifter in the country moves to the San Fran ahead of the actual reparations.

I am not sure what you mean when you use that word. "Albinophobia" is a fear of albinos. And - racial slurs aside - albinism is quite rare. Albinism occurs at the highest rates in Sub-Saharan African. In particular, Tanzania has a 1 in 1,500 rate. Albinism is rarest in persons of European descent, just a 1 in 20,000 rate.

Two other words for your consideration:
- Leukophobia is the fear of the color white.
- The fear of white people should be something like "Albuphobia". Although the "u" could possibly be an "o" or an "i".

takirks বলেছেন...

@Owen,

Do not make the mistake of thinking I'm advocating for any of this massive stupidity to take place. I'm just observing how things actually work, and extrapolating out to the likely effects.

The Crack Emcee said something that's as purely delusional as anything: "Rusty, you don't get to decide how we get paid - that's the whole point of reparations: to make white people stop thinking that way about us"

The point Mr. Emcee seems to forget is that once you're paying for something... It is yours, and you get a say in what happens with that "something".

He wants "reparations to make a point", and he fails to grasp that he's actually selling his entire race down the river as effectively as the old slave-traders did. Which ain't exactly new, since the vast majority of black slaves were enslaved by their fellow blacks long before they were sold to anyone deficient in melanin.

Reparations get put in place, and there won't be any more race-relation problems in a generation or two, mostly because there won't be any people to have race relations with. Which is exactly what the Democrats want; you can read their long program since before the Civil War as a campaign to convince the rest of the country to think of blacks the same way they do. They're almost done with that program, and they've been very convincing. End state will not be at all pretty.

You want to really fix racial issues here in the US? You don't do it like this, that's for damn sure. Just like affirmative action was delusional in conception, so is this. You do not "fix" race relations problems by screwing over people who happen to have the misfortune to look like the perpetrators of things done generations ago, not when those same people are also the ones who fought and died to put an end to slavery. I can point to a lot of dead males in my family tree that fought in the Civil War for the North and Abolition; yet, I'm blamed for slavery? Yeah, that's going to work out well.

Started out "enlightened non-racist" when I left school in the early 1980s. Life has taught me a number of lessons, chief among them that there are a hell of a lot of "oppressed minorities" out there who seem to have made it their mission in life to justify each and every single one of the stereotypes the "old, unenlightened bigots" used to denigrate them with. This, and a lot of sad life experience, has led me to a state where I'm one of those people I'd have once termed "racist". Not because I agree with any of it, but because I've had the experiences I have, and I've learned the hard way that all too much of that "old-school racism" was and is entirely justified. You can't really survive in a lot of America without being a racist, not least living in close proximity to a lot of black-majority communities.

White people would be happy to stop thinking about black people. One way for that to happen would be for them to stop acting like entitled children, get an education and then a job and become productive members of society. That's not "acting white", by the way- it's "acting grown up".

Or they can keep insisting they're owed something. Because reasons.
