These are polls of Republican voters.

Is Trump's stranglehold on a determined plurality of Republican primary voters increasing? It sure looks like it. Is that fact helpful to Republicans who want to win general elections? It doesn't seem so.

As the great pollster Sarah Longwell recently wrote on her Twitter feed:

The gap between what GOP base voters demand and what swing voters will tolerate grows wider every day.

Funny that they now have polls of psychotics, exclusively.

It's doesn't mean a thing. DeSantis has not ramped up yet. People nationally have not yet heard him much...or Nikki Haley. They will hear from both of them more once the primary season officially begins. Their differences will be made clear once debates begin. And then...the polls might have some bearing. Some.

People are passing their fed up point, and Donald Trump is their natural rallying point. When he says that they aren’t coming for him, they’re coming for you but it’s just that he’s in their way, that slogan resonates with a lot of people who had good jobs and saw real wage growth during the Trump pre-COVID era but are one paycheck away from financial disaster under Democrat rule.

For me, the most interesting poll is Rasmussen’s poll regarding the 2024 General Election: Trump 47% - Biden 40%. That poll was taken after Bragg’s indictments. Rasmussen also has DeSantis 46% - Biden 38%, probably reflecting the impact of ongoing TDS, as much as disenchantment with Joe Biden (note that Biden is at 28% approval among independents).

Indicting Trump worked for him the way a "paid partnership" worked for Instagrammer Dylan Mulvaney.

Or Am I conflating apples and oranges?

Full disclosure, I like oranges best. Surprise, surprise.

is that like just outrunning your buddy when bear is chasing after both ?

would it be good survival strategy to let Trump get mauled for another term?

Yeah, of course he won't - he has learned hs lesson, you see... Here's a headline from this morning:

'Trump Moves to Hire Laura Loomer, Anti-Muslim Activist'

RINOs no longer fool the electorate.

Trump 2024, DeSantis 2028.

Trump VP roster: Kim Reynolds (Iowa governor), Kristi Noem (South Dakota), Nikki Haley.

BTW, this type of reaction, so antithetical to the way the play is supposed to turn out, is part and parcel of what is driving the efforts to control information. (See #TwitterFiles)

The American people can't be trusted to make the type of judgements necessary to for their own wellbeing... or something. It's the most galling shit (Listen to Taibbi's Ep 32)

Loving Trump is a big beautiful middle finger to people who want to control and manage everything.

Can that be enough to get him back in... I don't know.

The hack-D press want Trump front and center in the news - gulping up all time-space hate attention spans.

I'm sorry, but Trump has let us down. He's given the Liberals too much Ammo. Time to move on.

We had a leader 20 or more years ago, who triumphed against all odds. He brought the country together, and destroyed a foreign enemy. With his brilliant VP he took conservatives to one victory after another, without being "vulgar" or "Mean-spirited".

That man was George Bush. And his sidekick was Dick CHeney.

Its time to get back to moderation. Its time to bring back civility - and heal our nation. Its time to stand up against foreign enemies like the Iranians, North Koreans, CHicoms and Putin. Its time to cut the captial gains taxes and get America moving again.

Its time for: Jeb Bush and Liz Cheney.

Together, they will bring back America 2008. Its their time. And Americas.

I hope not. I don’t see where DeSantis has made any missteps to justify his falling numbers, but there does come a point where momentum is lost and it’s hard to get back.

The left and the Biden admin (sorry to be redundant) are not through harassing Trump. A DoJ minion was responsible for Bragg's weak case. The Georgia grand jury with the crazy chairwoman will be next, then the judge will do his gag order, then the Mar a Lago raid results. This will be kept up until the election. If DeSantis has any sense, he will stay governor of FL. The oligarchy has already won the 20124 election.

Yep! once the season starts; the democrats (the mainstream media); will drive up the unfavorables for those two. Can't do that for Trump, they've Already drug him into the dirt.
Desantis and Nikki can ONLY go down. Trump is As Low, as he can get.
Thanx for pointing this out Temujin!

Big Mike said...

@Hunter Biden's tax payer funded Hooker, the counter-argument to you and other Never Trumpers is that by January 2025 Donald Trump may be the only politician in either party with a sufficient grasp of finance and macroeconomics to fix everything that Joe Biden and his Democrats have broken and will break between now and Inauguration Day 2025. Scary thought.

Humperdink:

"Trump will not make the same staffing mistakes when reassumes office."

Why not? If I take him at his cumulative word, he picks terrible, incompetent, disloyal people for key positions. Or he's powerless to resist terrible recommendations.

gilbar,

"Trump is As Low, as he can get."

See, if I were hoping for Trump to get the nomination, I'd be worried he's as high as he can get.

He has his base, of course. At his best, he temporarily wins over most Republicans who don't love him, before turning them away again. (Repeat cycle.) He turns off more independents than he wins. Trump Democrats exist, but not in larger numbers than Never Trump Republicans.

Has he ever once topped 50% in a would-you-elect poll of likely voters?

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

Big Mike

Delusional. The idea Trump has a grasp on microeconomics? laughable. He is a Ponzi scheme con artist. "Like never before!" ugh - how anyone can sit and listen to him and find him inspirational is - again laughable.

Yeah - Trump is mildly better than crooks that run the mob-democrat party. At this point, Trump might as well be on the mob's payroll.

"never-Trumper" is so boring, old and tired- much like Trump himself.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

The idea that Trump -the man who surrounded himself with Scaramuchi, Cohen, Sessions and more - can save us? LOL. The idea that Trump- the man who allowed the left's corrupt power to metastasize and over-whelm him - can save us? LOL. The idea that Trump, who made endless silly & bogus promises to build a "big and beautiful wall" and make Mexico pay for it - he will save us? LOL
Trump didn't see fit to fire Gain of Function Fauci. This self-absorbed loser is going to save us? LOL Yeah next time the old fat inarticulate fake-Reagan will fix everything! Believe!
All Trump's bogus promises to drain the swamp... all BS. The swamp drained him - and now the left have ruined everything. The idea Trump will fix it? LOL. Truly laughable.

Trump only creates more hot garbage with his mere presence. "LIKE NEVER BEFORE!" - Do you Ever-Trumpers ever question his stale words and promises? His rallies are shrinking. His hangers-on are deluded. Send money. Trump will bash, trash, insult and lie (just like democrats do) and crap on - all future R candidates who are younger with more to offer – (Trump is a jealous god - obey ) all while he holds his fire on the corrupt democrat party.

Trump for Biden – 2024.

After the arraignment is like before the arraignment. More than half the country still won't vote for Trump. One might have hoped that they would see the injustice of the indictment but they don't. The midterms and your Supreme Court election show that they aren't going to change, no matter how bad things get. Trump isn't going to change either. He isn't going to run a better campaign or make better appointments. People who might have voted for Trump 2.0 aren't going to vote for Trump 1.anything. I wish it were different, but it doesn't look like it could be.

No. Probably Robert Kennedy jr. He'd appeal to moderates and Trump hating republicans.

Hooker--Do you think that in the event that Disantis wins the Republican nomination, the Dems/MSM won't make the same attack, multiplied by 200?

Politics ain't beanbag.

I agree with Disantis (or agreed--he's since changed his position) and disagree with Trump on this issue, but nobody (not even Disantis) is actually going to do anything about that "Third Rail" until events force a huge crisis.

Disantis better have a good explanation/defense for his votes. One that the public (not just you and me) will accept. "It was the responsible thing to do, but now I've given up because I need to get elected, and nobody else will help" sounds like the stuff that has been losing national elections for a long time.

Consider Trump's ads as an early "stress test."

Flip-side Inga (HBTPFH): "The idea that Trump- the man who allowed the left's corrupt power to metastasize and over-whelm him - can save us?"

Ah yes, another day ending in "y" where Flip-side Inga contorts herself in pretzel-like fashion to avoid the unavoidable truth that the GOPe-ers worked habd in glove with their democratical allies to sabotage everything Trump was elected to do.

And now Flip-side Inga expects everyone to fall on their knees for the anti-Trumo GOPe-ers/globalist preferred candidate DeSantis who, according to Flip-side Inga, can deliver the "Trump policies more effectively than Trump and without the Trump drama".

Yes, its that hilariously illogical and counter-intuitive.

Warning: pointing that out makes one a "Trump humper" or something else equally "persuasive".

Drago said...

Mike: "It says everything about the GOP that the former President criming makes them support him more."

Probably because the "criming" lies are quite easy to discern.

Drago said...

Flip-side Inga (HBTPFH) "..all while he [Trump] holds his fire on the corrupt democrat party."

See how transparent and moronic Flip-side Inga's lies have become?

Yeah, that Trump! He just refuses to attack the democraticals! Yeah! That's the ticket!

Every side needs an Inga and our side has Flip-side Inga.

@Hunter Biden's tax payer funded Hooker, I never wrote “microeconomics.” I wrote “finance and mAcroeconomics” for a reason. I don’t know whether you believe that the US economy in 2019 happened purely by accident, or whether it would have happened regardless of who was President, what you believe. The only thing I get from you is that you hate the man so much that you wouldn’t credit him for tying his shoes properly.

And I don’t much care whether you are bored with being called a Never-Trumper. You are what you are.

@Hunter Biden's tax payer funded Hooker, okay, now we’re starting to find common ground. Trump’s weaknesses are enormous, and I do not respect his political judgement at all. But the problem for me, as a genuine life-long Republican (and, forty years ago, as a Reagan-Bush campaign official) is that there are two problems facing the next Republican President starting on Inauguration Day in January 2025. The first (in my estimation) is fixing the economy. Is there anyone besides Trump with the chops to deal with this? Dr. Rand Paul, perhaps, but he’s apparently not running. I have yet to see anything that indicates any of the others, including Ron DeSantis, have the economic chops — or have economics advisors — that can even begin to deal with the economic problems four years of Democrat mismanagement will have left behind.

The other problem is the President needs to use the Bully Pulpit to lead the War Against Woke, and Donald Trump is not within miles of Ron DeSantis, nor is anyone else.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

Big Mike,

Trump is terrible at the Bully Pulpit. I have no idea why anyone thinks he is strong. He is inarticulate and comes off as a TV evangelist.
He tosses out immature insults - and most of those insults are directed at HIS own team.

Trump has becomes a useless sinkhole.

WWIII Joe Biden, Husk-Puppet + America's Putin said...

The idea that Trump has good economic advisors? where? who?

If he ever surrounded himself with anyone good - they are all gone.

Trump isn't a fighter - he's a man-baby with man-baby insults.
