REI is closing their downtown Portland store in the Pearl District. The Pearl was a very attractive neighborhood for young families buying an old house, and pouring in the sweat equity. No more!!
People are wondering when Nordstroms will pull out, or will they burn Powell's Books first?
I've been to that REI store. It was very cramped, so I'm not surprised it's closing (There were great deals in the basement though) but I think the thefts give the Company a better reason.
Visited Powells once about 15 years ago. They had purchased Rosenstock from Denver and Kays from Cleveland. Both had excellent historical collections.
Kays Used Books was really remarkable. They had a 400+ lb guy who sat by the door. He always asked if you wanted a specific book. If you gave him a title, he'd say something like: "In the basement - row L, the fourth book case on the left and on the third shelf" Rather amazing since they had well over a million books.
The climate models are crap. They predict much more heating than has been observed (0.35C/decade vs. 0.14C/decade). The climate models have been working on these models since the 1980s and are no closer to matching today than in 1988.
Their working theory is that CO2 is a greenhouse gas and has a significant affect on how heat is transported from the surface to the top of the atmosphere (100 km). The theory is more CO2 means a slower transport, so temperatures rise.
The Pirani gauge can measure the heat transport in a gas from vacuum conditions to 1.3 standard atmospheric pressure. The vacuum (radiation) transport is 0.4% of the standard atmospheric transport value. That means assume the CO2 radiation transport is negligible. The heat conduction via molecular collisions massively dominates the total heat transport. Doubling the CO2 pressure would have no significant effect on heat transport.
The so-called greenhouse effect is due to the time it takes for the heat to be conducted through the atmosphere via molecular collisions. An air molecule (O2, N2 or CO2) can travel only 70nm before colliding with another air molecule. So it takes an incredible long time to transport heat from the surface to the top of the atmosphere.
If they burn down Powell's, there will be literally no reason for anyone to go to Portland. (My husband excepted; there is a violin dealer/repair place where he's a regular customer.)
One of my favorite phrases is "the bend in the road" from "Anne of Green Gables". After Mathew dies, Anne decides to forgo a scholarship to Redmond College and wonders what is ahead of her - what is around the "bend in the road".
It is based on scripture (I had to look that one up) but ever since reading it as a teen, it has stayed with me. Together with all of my 50-year old Anne (Shirley/Blythe) books sitting in my bookcase.
next up for Dominion= Rudy, the Kracken lady Smartmatic more lies. Lindell the pillow guy and a few others.Murdoch was so stupid, waiting to bail out after all info was already exposed and the lying hosts,Bartiroma,Hannity,Ingraham etc FOX will not change they will just keep paying,FOXERS aren't aware anyway, indoctrination is deep.Murdoch has payed out millions for sex cases and other cases just so his community wont have to hear about it.MONEY IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY for these foks.OANN, Newsmax WILL ALSO PAY.All to lie for a fellow who just couldnt admit he got beat. All the trump won,was rigged,65 courts all lied etc will never be convinced ,as stated indoctrination is deep.Wait till you see rudy dripping from the eyes. :(
It was freezing in Georgia again. Coldest spring in years.
Stuff happens. I've preserved enough agricultural history to seriously doubt we have a problem.

These lilies are climate deniers. I can’t believe Althouse is giving them a platform to spread their misinformation and disinformation.
Top one looks like a Hockney.

All of these are eye-poppingly eerie. Second one strongly suggests a scene out of Tolkien...
Just broke: Fox and Dominion come to an understanding.

I guess this means Biden did get all those votes after all.

It's the golden trees in photo 1 that stand out to me.

Don't look like that in NW Wisconsin. We are a week or two behind Madison.

Trout Lilies.
Must be nice.
You're the cruel neutrality of cowardice.
The rest of us struggle to earn a living, or beg for real (not trans) healthcare, or try to keep our people alive.
You're an elitistist dirtbag, Ann, and while I wish you no ill will, I wish you cognicance.
I always appreciate the path.
No shadows today(this morning).
Only light.
Hello broken tree, old pal! I hardly recognized you without the snow.
The top photo speaks to me.

I don't think that's the theory.
