Pretty sad when you have to rely on Russell Brand to make your point.

The Water Buffalo Shaman wishes peace and freedom for all of us. On this we should unite.

He must have been an important character to get a police escort. Do you think if I showed up dressed like that I could get a free, guarded tour? Get my picture professionally taken at the Senate podium...

The question is either, 1) who set him up, or 2) what's his payout for four years in jail?

Regular reminder that Fox News isn't really "news" during Tucker Carlson's show.

McDougal V Fox, (Case No. 1:19-cv-11161-MKV, SDNY 2020)

"Fox News seeks dismissal at the pleading stage on two constitutional grounds. First, it asserts that Mr. Carlson’s statements on the December 10, 2018, episode of his show are constitutionally protected opinion commentary on matters of public importance and are not reasonably understood as being factual.
...
"Whether the Court frames Mr. Carlson’s statements as “exaggeration,” “non-literal commentary,” or simply bloviating for his audience, the conclusion remains the same—the statements are not actionable.
...
"As a result, the Court concludes that Mr. Carlson’s statements viewed in context are not factual representations and, therefore, cannot give rise to a claim for defamation."

If you've read Raymond Chandler you'd know that "Bay City" was NOT LA (Santa Monica?) and its cops were SH*T

But, other than that, it was pretty good. Lots of Drugs, and Gambling and Blackmail and murder..
Like there should have been. It was better than the film The Big Sleep.. And i LIKE the Big Sleep

The release of the January 6th videos show, in detail, why all recordings of alleged crimes shold be released as soon as possible to the public. With all the gory details, or in the case of the January 6th recordings, none of them. Unless they have the videos of cops (cop?) beating a woman to death.

All police shuld carry body cameras. And as someone else said today, turning them off before an arrest or confrontaion should result in a tampering with evidence charge and trial.

Too be honest, equipping all police vehicles with 360° video and audio inside and out would be relatively inexpensive today compared to some of the other things patrol cars are equipped with.

And as for Mitch McConnell, I understand that according to Dante, the Plain of Traitors is possibly the worst place in hell. He's headed there. His oath is to the Constitution, not to the Capitol Police and their interpretation of events. He seems to not understand he works for the American people, and the Capitol Police work for Congress, and thus, us.

Your exact argument was made by some on the right when that exact argument was put forward by Rachel Maddow when she was sued. That’s the thing, Chuck—these are legal arguments made in court, and the terms are being used in a specific legal sense. And they are boilerplate. All news shows, left and right, use it word for word in defamation cases.

It’s annoying that they are taken out of context by hacks like you. But they are, and then the rest of us have to be subjected to your silly opportunistic gloating.

Well hold on. Part of Devin Nunes' lawsuit versus Maddow was dismissed because the alleged defamatory statements (by Maddow) were TRUE. MSNBC lawyers made the argument you suggest (NYT v Sullivan line of cases, plus NY's shield law); so you're not completely wrong. But "truth" was in part found to be a valid defense in that case.

Anyway, what I wanted you to know; there is a lot more opportunistic gloating where that came from.

The Democrats invite millions of homeless refugees to come to our land of the free and home of the brave.

Republicans ship the homeless refugees out of red states and into sanctuary cities.

Sanctuary cities bitch and complain.

Democrats want the illegal aliens to vote and turn all the red states blue, so we can build our socialist paradise of poverty for everybody except for the ruling class.

Also count them in the census!

Republicans want the illegal aliens to provide cheap inexpensive labor.

Republicans and Democrats, working together, have built a nice underclass of non-citizens and non-tax-payers who are afraid of the police and vulnerable to horrific crimes.

Not as bad as your baby-killing fuck ups or your castration of 6-year-olds. But if you're wondering why people have lost faith in the ruling class, well, blame free speech and the internet.

The Feds going after the Jan 6 protesters reminds me of the Michael Flynn case. Sure Flynn pled (pleaded??) guilty. What choice did he have? Decades in jail on trumped up charges, plus his son facing the same. He opted to fail on his sword. Merrick Garland (aka the Basset Hound) must be proud.

For those people skeptical there is a uniparty/ swamp in DC, Mitch McConnell utterances yesterday should remove all doubt. This is actually a blessing.

"Being against the war does not make you a Putin buddy. That's a lefty debating tactic."

Timmy is not against the war. He's against Ukraine's survival. He's acknowledged as much for the last year. My point has always been, from 24 Feb of last year, that I would always support the party that did NOT marshal an army of 240K on the border of another country, then invade based on the flimsiest pretext, destroy the invaded country's civilian infrastructure and indiscriminately kill men women and children in their homes. Moreover, after the Holomodor of 38/39, wherein about 4 million Ukrainians were purposely starved to death by Russian troops under the direction of Stalin, only a fool would give the Russians the opportunity to do it again, the Maiden bullshit not withstanding. I predicted at the start of the war that this would go badly for the Russians partly because the Ukrainians were motivated with their backs against the wall and they had to win, but primarily because the Russian military is riddled with endemic corruption, crappy leadership, imbecilic tactics, poorly maintained equipment, untrained troops and a lack of mid level non commissioned officers. I came to that conclusion based on my personal experiences in field leadership positions during the Gulf War wherein Iraq fought using Russian equipment, tactics, logistics and training and we rolled through them like shit trough a goose. My opinion was also informed by my study of the Russian and Soviet militaries during my 30 years of active duty during the Cold War and my combat experiences during two tours in Vietnam. Is there corruption in Ukraine? Undoubtedly, but not on the same scale as Russia.

No one hates war more than those who actually have to do the fighting, which includes me, but I really have nothing but contempt for those on this blog who have never seen combat but still feel obligated to lecture and denigrate the motives and question the intelligence of those of us who know first hand the horrors of war. Sometimes you have to pick a side and support the lesser evil, and the Western World has decided that Ukraine is the lesser evil, excepting Vermont and the appropriately named Old and Slow, of course.
.

Humperdink said...

"No one hates war more than those who actually have to do the fighting, which includes me"

Why no peace talks? Not even a suggestion of peace talks. Not a whisper. Think Ukraine will be better off, regardless of which side "wins"? This war could have been prevented, but no, the Biden state department, with it's foolhardy talk of the Ukes joining NATO lit the fuse. They are reveling in this war. The ultimate distraction.

Narr said...

The Western World?

In the process of committing suicide under the leadership of the corrupt and insane, racing the Russians and Chinese to societal collapse.

Right and wrong are no longer useful or relevant categories for where we are; if the Russians win they'll face guerilla warfare and endemic communal violence for decades, and if the Ukes win, the same.

Of course, if one has invested widely and wisely in 'defense' stocks, one is probably pretty enthusiastic about the war. I imagine that the the Pentagon is full of smiles lately.

I was going to do a Grateful Dead song to that elk

you know, the deadheads

and I was contemplating rewriting the lyrics to Casey Jones

which I would characterize as a "friendly warning" song about the dangers of cocaine and/or fighting with the 5-0

and I thought I could change "train" to "elk" and shit like that, maybe try to come up with a word that rhymes with "toxic masculinity," which is a fucking hard rhyme, in my opinion

but what stopped me before I got started was that damn Police song homage

didn't even think of the Police

classic!

and I've always hated that song, one of their creepier songs about sex obsession, Sting always seemed a little psycho in that one, not my tune

I much prefer the girl stalking in Don't Stand So Close To Me, which is an awesome song

(Blondie is also super fun, because girl stalkers are funny, in my opinion, unless they belong to the NRA, so let me rephrase and say that liberal girl pacifist stalkers are funny)

girl stalking, fine!

man stalking, disapprove

(I know it's sexist, sue me, girl stalking is funny and girl catfights caused by girl stalking is even funnier -- or sexy as shit, I'm not advocating techniques or anything, hospital visits are not sexy, unless there's a sexy nurse, you see how complicated sex fantasy is in the art world)

anyway, Barry Sanders cracked me up because he pulled it off without changing the fucking lyrics, which was truly bad-ass.

LOL, son, that was a good one

(the Beatles enjoyed the fuck out of girl stalking, as far I can tell from their movie, but sex fantasy is still fantasy and Yoko also creeps me out)
