Kamala Harris talks to the Howard basketball team — which was expected to lose and did lose — as if they were little kids crying over losing and desperate for a self-esteem boost.

Kamala Harris is the political version of Michael Scott. An awkwardly bumbling incompetent totally outclassed by a job they've gained from 'personal relationships' and being stupidly lucky.

We need to start calling the Peter Principle the Kamala Principle, although Peter-Puffer Principle will also be acceptable.

She is a pathetic excuse for the first female VP. What an embarrassment to women.

This is especially inane since college players are now pros, paid with endorsement contracts that often kick in before they attend a class. They’re pros, not amateurs.

My alma mater, Illinois basketball team, has no real connection to the state or the college. Few of the key players are actually from Illinois. Many are one year hires. I stopped watching the games because… well, what does the basketball team actually have to do with Illinois or the university?

traditionalguy said...

Mommie dearest sweetly honors the team that suffered a NCAA Tournament loss. Doesn’t she know that all the teams in a Tournament have to lose but one?

That’s above her pay grade.

She's never hit a three pointer, but she knows how to drivel....Ponder the ferocity and enthusiasm with which the wits of SNL and the sages of the msm went after Sarah Palin and then reflect on the way in which the inanity of Kamala Harris is ignored and sometimes even praised.

The words are (paraphrasing) "be proud, you are historic, you are winners" and yet, when she goes to shake the coach's hand, her face and body language are like she's expressing condolences at a funeral.

"There's no such thing as a moral victory." Former Creighton basketball coach Tony Barone.

Is the VP now going to make the rounds of all the losing teams? UVA? Arizona?

One thing this country DOESN'T need or want is that fucking moron Kamala Harris politicizing the best sporting event in the country.

One of the reasons Americans so love March Madness is the emotion. The thrill of victory when the 15 seed Princeton Tigers upset the number 2 seed Arizona Wildcats. A small and elite private school upsets a giant public school from a rich conference.

The Utah State cheerleader shows the agony of defeat.

And, of course, they are all college kids. As of Wednesday, any one of the 64 teams could win the title. A thrill of a lifetime.

My school plays NC State today. About 40 years ago, NC State had the giant upset of Houston and Coach Jim Valvano became a legend.

If Creighton beats the Wolfpack, then we play Baylor. We've had a very uneven season. Baylor plays a devilish zone that only Syracuse plays. Baylor beat us by 30 in the tournament about a dozen years ago. The worst defeat in Bluejay history. This matchup was set up on purpose by the Selection Committee. They call it the story line.

March Madness is all about stories. It is the greatest real time drama going. Forget about Mad Man or Yellowstone. This is real and unscripted.

Wow, a TV sports program focuing on a pretty cheeleader, or a goodlooking wife or fan in the stands. Boy, I've never seen that before!

I noticed that Arizona lost AGAIN. When it comes to the NCAA tournament , they must be the most underperforming Top Ranked BB team ever. Seems like every year they get a highly ranked seed and then get "upset" before they final 4. The number of times they've been bounced in the first round since 2005 is remarkable.

Well, Terrence Shannon, Jr., who grew up in Chicago, is pretty key, and Ty Rodgers, one of the first off the bench, is from Harvey, a few miles south of Chicago. Also Ayo Dosunmu before them.

… well, what does the basketball team actually have to do with Illinois or the university?

How about if you ask the kids who pack the stands for every home game?

Half expected Harris to suddenly shout, "Let's all get ice cream!"

Wow, that was even worse than usual for Kamala. It reminded me of when she was talking to the kid actors about looking through a telescope. Except more insufferable. What athlete wants to hear that condescending tripe after losing a game? That's a punishment, not an inspiration.

Exactly. The interesting thing is that people are now treating it as odd. It's an important cultural moment. By pretending they don't understand why she is being shown, they are, intentionally, I would guess, critiquing the privileging of young, white, pretty females. It's racist. It's sexist. That's what the pretended incomprehension communicates.

OMFG. BabbleTalk. Eesh.

I did feel a little bad for the UVa player in tears after their loss to Furman. Why have the camera lingering on the young man (it wasn't his fault that his team-mate threw the game away with that horrible pass!)
I'm glad my land-grant University beat that other land-grant University late last night -- not that I watched it!

There were some crazy hot (really hot) ladies in the stands for the World Cup hosted by Russia.

They got almost as much air time as the players : )

Then there was the Brent Musburger incident...

"“Your 'best'?? Losers always whine about their best...."

Reminds me of David Sedaris, in "Happy-Go-Lucky," reacting to the people at the dinner after his father's funeral who said “Well, I know that your father did his best":

"A man can beat his wife with car antennas, can trade his children for drugs or motorcycles, but still, when he finally, mercifully, dies, his survivors will have to hear from some know-nothing at the post-funeral dinner that he did his best. This, I’m guessing, is based on the premise that we all give 110 percent all the time, regarding everything: our careers, our relationships, the attention we pay to our appearance, etc. “Look around,” I want to say. “Very few people are actually doing the best they can. That’s why they get fired from their jobs. That’s why they get arrested and divorced. It’s why their teeth fall out. Do you think the ‘chef’ responsible for this waterlogged spanakopita is giving it his all? Is sitting across from me, spouting clichés and platitudes, honestly the best you can do?”

It may be all of those things but it is assuredly real...I have seen it many times.

Really beautiful women (not necessarily white) have power over straight men (even some gays fall into line) and they do use it to their advantage.

The gracious ones don't flaunt it, but good things come their way regardless...

Fortunately every VP who has tried to run for the presidency for almost 200 years has lost. Unless their name was Bush. Kamala doesn't seem like she will be the one to break the losing streak.

Every former VP has done a horrible job when they have gotten into the Oval. Think Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Truman and all the others. Coolidge would be the exception that proves the rule.

"critiquing the privileging of young, white, pretty females"

Which is odd, since for half a century prog activism has privileged white female tears. I guess the white prettiness now rankles in the age of body positivity and anti-racism. Some tears are more equal than others.

Which is also odd, considering that sports broadcasts in fact privilege young, black, not necessarily handsome men.

Of course, the critique risks eliminating one more reason why heterosexual men should pay any attention to sports broadcasts.

Ugh. Kamala’s insufferable. F-ing leech. And that husband of hers (“the historic first ‘second gentleman’”) looks like a complete tool following her around silent like a mute chuck schumer look alike attendant… ugh. We used to call that emasculating but I’m sure that’s a taboo word now.

I watched that "speech" and it was 100%+ cringeworthy. Felt sorry/embarrassed for the team to have to sit through that.

Presidents and Vice-Presidents inserting themselves into our nation’s sporting events is only done as a distraction to their administration’s failings, especially when they are Democrats. I cringed and avoided ESPN’s annual slobberfest with Barry O. when he revealed his NCAA brackets in an annual show with President Mr. Know It All. And yesterday, the MSM reporting about the Russian downing of our drone seemed to drop off their radar when Arizona lost as they seemed more intent on reporting how it busted Biden’s bracket. When the Super Bowl occurred a month ago, I was glad Biden turned down Fox’s request for a one on one interview on what has now become a Super Bowl pregame tradition for a presidential deferential / brown nose interview. I was also happy when sports team refused invitations to the White House during the Trump era. Keep politicians and our one distraction (of sports) from politics separated!

These politicians need to spend more time on our country’s economy and security instead of cozying up to sporting events and teams, although with the past Obama and current Biden administrations, I am concerned with their social and economic re-engineering our country for the worst…

Guys, as an alum I am proud of your season. There are so many teams that never got the chance to be in the Big Dance. I am confident that the Bisons can build on this success and do even greater things. You can count on me to be always to cheer you on.

Off the top of my head. Not all that hard - especially if you can get over that day care worker delivery.

Spectators crying over a loss is one of the reasons to watch a blowout. A young man crying like that would have been just as irresistible to the cameras.

Oh yeah the cheerleader. The default is SEXISM!

Too easy a leap.

Recall, if you will the ABC's Wide World of Sports. "The thrill of victory. The agony of defeat". Pretty common sports theme. I've seen dozens of similar things where a player cries or slumps with a towel over his head to hide his raw emotions.

What was the underlying, inappropriate message in those case.

It was surprising to me that Howard and other HBUCs weren't embarrassed by Harris and haven't been having a "conversation" about that.

Still, the write-up and Kamala's reputation made me think this was going to be worse than it was. She repeated herself and she did sound like a primary school teacher, but she didn't drag in yellow school busses, Venn diagrams, or space exploration, so she exceeded expectations.

Tom T. said...

The good part about being a UVa fan is that I don't have to spend a whole month worrying about how my team is doing in the tournament. They get all of the worrying out of the way upfront, and now I can just relax.

Saying "he did his best", is just a way of being charitable. After all, some people really are out there trying as hard as they can, and still failing.

If Kamala really loved Venn diagrams, she'd have gone to the locker-room whiteboard and said/drawn this:

"Let circle A be the set of all college basketball teams. The smaller circle (B) completely inside A is the set of all teams in the NCAA tournament. The still-smaller circle (C) inside B is the set of all teams that are still in the tournament. Now look at this little dot (D) that's right on the boundary of C. That's you guys, who are winners even though you didn't."
