"President Biden remains 'a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male who is fit to successfully execute duties of the presidency,' his physician wrote..."

"... in a memo released hours after the president underwent a routine annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Thursday morning."

WaPo reports.

The physician — or the Washington Post — needs instruction in how to avoid triggering jokes about transgenderism. "President Biden remains 'a... male...."

Anyway. Great photo at the link of Biden jogging across the South Lawn as his aide, holding an open umbrella, lags behind. The healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male does not need an umbrella.

That's your candidate, Democrats. There's no getting around it. And it seems that America will spend the next 6 years in the arms of the gerontocracy. Snuggle up!

Let me start by observing that Biden is in better health and communicative capacity than I expected him to be ~18 months into his Presidency. His campaign made me think he was about to collapse mentally - and he's pretty much stayed steady state since then. Hasn't improved, hasn't declined.

There is so much pageantry in the Presidency, with very little accuracy. Physicians pretend and hide things. Staff hide things. Etc.

However, an 80+ year old chief executive is like electing Fetterman. It means that who you elect is not as important as the party you elect.

It took Trump to do it in 2016, but as we have seen in 2020 and 2022, it won't happen again. And frankly we don't deserve for it to. We and our children have sold or surrendered our birthright to the Dems, their mediaswine, their other enablers and their cultural revolution. Fortunately, Armageddon may be in the offing. If so, in the aftermath there will be very few Democrats. Unfortunately, there probably won't be a U.S. either.

My opinion also. You can do a lot with diet, exercise, and plenty of rest but once you start to age the process goes on and Biden's verbal lapses show the process is going on. He's doing a Fetterman. His far left staff, including Anita Dunn, is doin the work, the media are covering up the fact and, nevertheless half the country knows the facts. The other half, the Dem-Dums, will be allowed to know in a few years.

What gerontocracy? We are led by the cabal of billionaires and back-room partisans. With Biden we have the most obvious puppet President in US history. Go back and watch Robert Redford's The Candidate (1972) regarding lefty attacks on stuffed-shirt politicians. "Never trust anyone over 30" they said back then.

The Democrats would have rejected Biden at 80 in the Reagan era as too old, rejected him in the Clinton era as out of touch, and in the Obama era as the fuddy-duddy who only made White people comfortable with a Black leader.

Biden has no real power, as he sold out to numerous corporations in Delaware, Ukraine, China, and CBC in back-room deals. So, he's not a leader, he follows whatever his handlers put on his teleprompter. Max Headroom in real life.

The left called Reagan and G.W. Bush stupid and stage-managed, but did the same 100x more obviously with Biden. Power corrupts, and Trump induced blind rage and a pyrrhic victory.

All the personal testimonies on the difference between 80 and 84 remind me of something I read many years ago. The subject was natural lifespan: how long people who take care of their health could expect to live with an excellent medical system. This guy (possibly Leon Kass?) argued that the 'natural life span', the age at which health starts to decline much faster than before, is not the traditional 70 (the Biblical "three score and ten") but ~83 (he may have said 82-84). That's when even the healthiest tend to turn unhealthy, and their chances of death in the next year rise considerably. He concluded that the human body seems to be designed to last ~83 years, and any healthy years after that are dumb luck, and we should be very grateful for them.

Which reminds me. The most famous sentence of Cicero's dialogue De Senectute ("On Old Age") is "There's no man so old and decrepit that he doesn't think he'll make it through one more year". An internet Classics mailing list discussed this some years back, and someone (me, I think) asked how old you are (in the developed world today) before your chances of making it through one more year drop below 50%. Of course, that's easy enough to calculate these days, if you know your way around government statistics. Someone did the work: it turns out to be surprisingly high: 104. Makes sense when you think about it. If your chances are (e.g.) 59% at 99, 57% at 100, 55% at 101, 53% at 102, 51% at 103, 49% at 104, then obviously the number of 104-year-olds will be far smaller than the number of 99-year-olds five years before, even while their year-to-year chances were >50%. The wonders of compound interest!

Why they have convinced you to hate Trump:

As president, Donald Trump lavished the rich with tax cuts and deregulation. Yet, contradictorily, he also threatened the structure of American global hegemony that does so much to keep the American one percent tremendously wealthy. In fact, Trump undertook the most momentous rollback of American military and diplomatic power since the current architecture of American informal empire first took form at the end of World War II.

Trump campaigned on an end to “nation building” and then, amazingly, set about actually winding down America’s “forever wars” by simply packing up and leaving. Nor did he start any new wars.

Paul Ryan "lavished the Rich with tax cuts," but of course the majority of those cuts went to the middle class, but the "constant repetition" of this lie makes it take on the lustre of actual truth in the minds of those exposed to this repetition, and no curiosity about primary sources, and even this guy, who is trying to make a case for Trump is taken in by it without even realizing it. It's impossible for everybody to check primary sources on ever claim, and they have thousands of people pushing lies about Trump as their full time job.

What they did on to J K Rowling is relative in scale to what's been done to Trump as a Boy Scout Jamboree is to Operation Overlord.

Static Ping said...

As for the gerontocracy, there's nothing inherently wrong with having old leaders if they are capable. Trump, despite having a myriad of personality flaws, is genuinely energetic, charismatic, sharp, possesses useful leadership skills, and, when focused, is a good judge of character and situations. Biden did not have leadership skills when he started his political career 50 years ago, has repeated shown to be a poor judge of character and situations, thinks charisma involves lying about his biography such that I doubt he knows what is true anymore, and seems to think that his entire political career has been about enriching himself and his ego. Trump now is a better choice than Biden was 50 years ago, 40 years ago, 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and now, especially since he is senile. Trump is also a better choice than Kamala Harris at any point during her lifetime, since she's an empty pant suit.

I suppose Biden is a better choice than Feinstein, but that's an extremely low bar.

I skimmed through the grayzone article referenced by tim in vermont. The author is another example of someone looking at Trump as a politician and not as a leader. OMG, Trump made decisions on troop deployments without properly consulting military leaders! Well, surprisingly, the President of the United States doesn’t have to consult them or do what they want. They have to do what he orders, and many of them are guilty of multiple violations of the UCMJ and should be hung by the neck until dead. Somebody named Vindman comes immediately to mind. Maybe more than one of them…

The USA, as a trading nation, needs to be the world’s policeman in one area- maintaining freedom of navigation throughout the oceans. Including vigorous anti-piracy efforts. It seems, historically, only one nation at a time can do that.

Land bases in developed countries? Let them take up their own defense burdens. Seems none of our NATO partners have enough artillery shells for an actual war. They’re dependent on us having them. They shouldn’t be.

Not a big fan of Ukraine. But the little kerfluffle going on there has revealed to many the Russian army isn’t an all powerful behemoth. Recall that our military leaders who Trump didn’t consult all said Ukraine would fall within weeks. It’s revealed that we really need more artillery shells. And we need to look carefully at new weapons. Seems quadcopters carrying bombs can be deadly accurate, even when cobbled together with off the shelf parts. This is actually something milbloggers and hobbyists had discussed before the war was started by the Russians. And ignored by military leaders.

Anyone who thinks Biden is capable of understanding anything going on militarily right now is deluded. I’d love to see a reporter ask him about Ukrainian drone use…

Bruce Willis tried it for a couple of years, and then the walls came in on him. I suspect that Biden will go down the same path.

Article 25 is going to get exercised. Be prepared.

“DeSantis derangement syndrome -- coming to you directly from wendybar and the other always-Trumpers on this blog.”

Whoever is on their best foot. Why knock the crap out of the character of one to build a higher pedestal for the other, though. Geesh.

EXACTLY Farmgirl. DeSantis hasn't even said he is going to run. Criticizing and attacking Trump supporters isn't going to make them want to vote for the party who is criticizing them and attacking them. THAT was my point. I hadn't even MENTIONED DeSantis. lonejustice is the one who brought up DeSantis and Soros. NOBODY even mentioned that on this thread.

I had a vague memory of the doctor who pronounced Donald Trump to be mentally and physically fit was roundly denounced and harassed by the press. And Dinky Dau shows up like the lefty shill he is to confirm that yes, that did in fact happen.

And yet--Trump is still healthy and vigorous. Where does Dr. Jackson go to get his reputation back?

"By comparison you could have DeSantis or Haley."

One of these things is not like the other.

(I sincerely hope--otherwise we really are doomed).

Got a note from his doctor just like Fetterman.

Biden reacted so poorly to the press shouting questions at him yesterday, as he stood confused and angry that his preplanned question from NBC was not intelligible in the din, that he stomped out mumbling and called the NBC reporter from the Oval Office. It would be great if the DNC Media showed side-by-side clips of the complete animal chaos of the Trump era press corps and the handful of prescreened barking seals that annoyed the overwhelmed Peter Principal President we have.

Anything to justify the (claimed) "lack of funds" to increase Social Security, Medicare, pay off student loans, and other funding for the needs of American citizens. When the only choice for domestic spending is Guns or Butter, our tax dollars will always go toward guns and never toward butter...even if we have to find/fabricate reasons to dispose of US taxpayer dollars in other nations. With our dollars allocated to other purposes elsewhere, they can convince themselves they can convince us that "we don't have the funds." Both parties adhere to this first principle.

Well Ann, you didn't vote at all... so you obviously accepted Biden as your President. Yes.. Snuggle up and reap what you sow.
