I've never worn heels but they do not seem conducive to kicking. When kicking, your weight is mostly on the heel and a high heel would seem to be pretty unstable.

Ladies, is it possible to kick a in high heels?

And why is this chuckrep (Haley) promoting violence? Doesn't she know she is supplosed to reason with the bully or call the police?

From Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Miinister of Canada, to Sanna Marin PM of Finland, to Kaja Kallas the Estonian PM, to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, all telegenic women, are leading us into WW3 with their insatiable appetite for war. The men are far more circumspect, well, now that Boris Johnson is gone, but his female replacement was right in line with the war cheerleaders, and before you accuse me of unconscious sexism for that metaphor, just know that I used it advisedly. Oh yeah, the head of the EU is another one, albeit somewhat superannuated.

I used to use the example of Queen Catherine Montour as an counter-example to those who say that if we want peace, we need women leaders, but the modern world is rife with examples of war mongering women. This is why I don't trust Kari Lake. She's fine for the Senate, sure, but beautiful women grown up knowing that they have power over men that doesn't really require much in the way of justification. Men can be slaves to beauty, all of the highly evolved readers of this blog are exceptions to this rule, I am sure.

Only a few comments as I write this. But they mostly seem to confirm part of what was in Stuart Stevens' brilliant and beautifully written NYT Op-Ed of a day ago (I gather that he knew perfectly well what her exact announcement date would be):

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/13/opinion/nikki-haley-republican-party.html

"There is a great future behind Nikki Haley. She will never be the voice of truth she briefly was in 2016, and she will never be MAGA enough to satisfy the base of her party. But no one should feel sorry for Ms. Haley. It was her choice."

Like Stuart Stevens, I was immediately drawn to the comparisons with other recent MAGA darlings. Kari Lake; Sarah Palin; Tudor Dixon. With their histories of, uh, electoral success. (?!) There is of course Marjorie Taylor Greene, sitting in a fundamentally Confederate district in rural northwest Georgia. And Lauren Boebert in a an exurban Colorado district. Boebert damned near lost a Colorado district that tilts R+7.

Nikki Haley can never be MAGA enough for the current Republican "base" (whatever that is now), and anyone who is "MAGA enough" cannot win a general.

Misinforminimalism said...

This new generation sounds an awful lot like the GOP of 1985.

Don't get me wrong, I like Nikki Haley. She'd be 400x the President that Biden is. But to say that we need "fiscal restraint" is to fundamentally misstate the problem, so badly that I have to question her judgement.

The American people are catching on to the fact that the DC/Davos ruling class hates us and our way of life, and are determined to end it by any means necessary. We need a leader who understands that and can respond. Trump did it. Desantis appears capable of doing that. I'm not sure Haley is up to the challenge.

(But you know who might be? Tulsi.)

Tina Trent said...

Chuck, you misunderstand the fact that Trump won because MAGA ideas appealed to a good many centrists worried about the extremism of the left and job security for Americans. The hardcore conservatives had to be dragged in to support him, and the GOPe had to be dragged as well.

Your hysterical ranting about him is…weird. And wrong. I love me some Trumpster, but even if we lived in an honest society, he just couldn’t shut the fuck up even a little. It cost him big. I watched the first debate with Biden with a real life ultra-MAGA buddy. When it was over we knew he had just talked himself out of a few million votes. That’s not the only reason, but it is A reason why he lost.

Jupiter said...

"Conservatism" won't have anything at all to do with whether President Biden is reelected.

Biden will be reelected:
~ If Trump wins the GOP nomination. (Good chance of that.)
~ If Trump, under felony indictment, loses the nomination to DeSantis, yet refuses to concede and continues to run on his own apart from the GOP. (Good chance of that, too.)

Personally, I'd be delighted to vote for a conservative -- Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger -- instead of Biden. But I'll vote for Biden over any MAGA candidate.

Having watched the MI-3 Congressional race up close, I can see it as a model for 2024. In the MI-3, the Republicans had a great candidate, Rep. Peter Meijer. Ivy league, U.S. Military, personal wealth, young, articulate, conservative. But he voted for Trump's second impeachment.

Meijer was primaried by a king of nobody from a midlevel Trump Administration job; John Gibbs.

In the primary campaign, the DCCC ran ads calling Gibbs someone who was "handpicked by Trump to run for Congress," and that Gibbs is "too conservative for West Michigan." The Dems knew exactly what they were doing. Running those ads (all true), they knew that they would excite the Trump base for Gibbs. It worked. Gibbs won the primary with the unlikely, clever, DCCC ad support.

Then, in the general election, having gotten the the candidate whom they wanted (Gibbs), the Dems won the general election. Hillary Scholten, brand new to Congressional races, beat him easily; by a whopping 12.9 percentage points.

What would make me happy to see Trump get the nomination again would be the prospect of beating him again.

Tina Trent said...

Thanks Big Mike. But basically any candidate who is vetted by Club for Growth is forced to be open borders and to refuse to comment on it honestly. That was every single candidate in 2016 except Trump. I would have loved to support Ted Cruz, but he is deeply beholden to them, and Rand Paul is one of their main voices in Congress.

CfG is the Kochs and a few more billionaires who make more money with every new immigrant, legal or illegal, rich or government dependent. When I briefly worked for AFP, their national organizers openly mocked the citizen activist people they were astroturfing. And they were all former Jeb aides. Remember the Gang of Eight debacle with little Marco? CfG orchestrated.

In one tweet, here is why I want DeSantis over Trump. What else needs to be said?
DeSantis gets things done. He zeros in on key issues and gets past the bullshit to take action. And he and his team know when they'll see a massive coordinated attack on what he's doing and they are so prepared, they know how to handle it. So far.

Trump got things done as well. And he also could not stop creating shit along the way. With his record of accomplishments he should have swept into a second term. But his mouth, his uniquely not-normal behavior keeps millions from not voting for him again. Not to mention the millions who obsessively hate him already. He cannot win again.

That said, if DeSantis falters, you will see the GOP establishment and many independents move toward Haley. She should not be dismissed.

Achilles, and others, have been perfectly clear as to the basis for their concern/distrust of DeSantis and on what specific issues are involved.

It's been repeated over and over again.

It's a bit tedious to have to write the same answer to the same questions every single day.

At this point, after having had this conversation every day for over a year, most of us have given up and now just say "we'll see soon enough", because we will.

Until then, DeSantis' record of being a Paul Ryan clone on economic policy/China engagement/foreign policy-forever wars/failure to attack the deep state, etc remain until proven otherwise.

And I'll just end with this. The same question that is asked every single day but is never answered by early DeSantis supporters: If DeSantis is supposedly going to give us "Trump policies without the Trump drama", how is it that the entire DeSantis presidential advisor team are typical DC insiders and 95% of all DeSantis funding comes from billionaires/groups that are in passionate opposition to Trump policies in all of the above areas?

How is that going to work? Gee guys, thanks for the $2.5Billion for my campaign...but now I'm going to go in a direction that every one of you oppose!

People have spent years literally lining up to be "s*** all over by Trump". There is astonishing money and support to be had if one is seen as an enemy of Trump.

Your ridiculous assertion is so demonstrably wrong on its face it requires no further comment.

minnesota farm guy: " If we don't get Trump off the board for 2024 we are doomed to another 4-8 years of Dem madness. Haley at least has the courage to join the fight early on."

It's not "early on". There are other candidates that have already launched their campaigns as well. Official announcements follow years of prep work and are perfunctory.

Further, if you think any of the other candidates will pull in the rural, blue collar and working class voters that Trump has you are sadly mistaken. At least as things have stood for the last 10 years and as things stand now. Let us know if that changes.

Besides, it probably doesn't matter since the GOPe-ers have teamed up with the dems to allow the dems to steamroll the election processes in so many places they have turned the Presidential races into a corrupt near lock for the dem.

minnesota farm guy: "Trump, as many have said, had the potential to be a great and transformative president, but could not keep his mouth and ego from spoiling it all. Given that, I can not see any reason to give him another chance to f**k up."

Trump has his faults but he was ONLY stopped by the brigade of sabotaging GOPe-er/McConnellites that folks like you seem to want to reward for completely selling out to the dems/establishment. Ryan and McConnell knew from the beginning that all the collusion lies were just that, but they played along. Ryan and McConnell were not about to give the republican base any policy wins and they didn't.

But you want to just wish all that away. Pretend it never happened and let the same corruptocrats continue their selling out of the US.

Because of course you do. Hey, no Mean Tweets!

As mentioned many times previously, the Trump Card is the biggest Get Out Jail Free Card for the sellout GOPe-ers that has ever existed in the history of politics.

And minnesota farm guy is one of the reasons why that is.

Except, of course, that overall Adam Schiff is not quite as big a liar or as big a leftist as LLR Chuck.

So, you know, apologies of a sort to Adam Schiff for the comparison.

HBTPFH: "Dear Trump Humper Twins -

Once again, as always, HBTPFH can't rise above her emotions and fundamental ignorance of the political reality on the ground.

Not surprising.

Recall that HBTPFH told everyone over and over again that the democraticals so desperately want Trump to be the republican nominee that they, the democraticals, would not go after Trump at all on bogus legal charges.

Reality: the democraticals are moving heaven and earth, and at full speed, in attempt after attempt to legally sideline Trump.

A normal thinking person would take in that information and adjust their prognostication accordingly. But not HBTPFH. That is far beyond her capabilities as she demonstrates daily on these pages.

No matter how many times you write this, like your peer Inga, its not going to make it any less false and any less relevant.

You'd better start figuring out how to answer the question of how it is DeSantis is going to throw over all his globalist donors after taking their money which represents 95% of his total take thus far.

I mean, if you were a thinking person you might do that. But you aren't so its a task that will have to fall to someone else.

Drago said...

Temujin: "DeSantis gets things done. He zeros in on key issues and gets past the bullshit to take action. And he and his team know when they'll see a massive coordinated attack on what he's doing and they are so prepared, they know how to handle it. So far."

Give us a preview of what that will look like in terms of the following, remembering of course that DeSantis was a pure Ryan clone while in the House of Representatives:

- Attacking the deep state apparatus that has declared war on conservatives
- Stopping the forever wars and curtailing the Military industrial complex
- Building the wall and returning illegal immigration numbers equal to the number under Trump
- Aggressively taking on the ChiComs across the Board and in particular in terms of nationalist economic policies, reshoring of jobs to America, squeezing supply chains to reduce ChiCom influence, etc

I could go on but that's enough for now.

Keeping in mind of course that ALL of DeSantis' major donors and entire campaign staff oppose EVERY ONE of those items. But only every one of them.

Besides, its essentially the same question, in a different form, that gets asked every single day of early DeSantis supporters but for some reason never gets any answers.

I suspect we never will get that answer.

No need to gat personal.
He financed his own campaign?
We weren't handing tens of billions to Ukraine.
He wanted NATO members to pay their own damn way.
If DeSantis were smart. And his donors were smart. They'd wait for 2028.

I don’t know Desantis staff, but I do know he had no problem kicking the single biggest employer in Florida’s ass and it seems to be a pattern. I spend a lot of time in Florida. The fact of the matter is that what was a 50/50 state is now the gold standard for state governance and there is nowhere, not even Miami, Orlando even Fort Lauderdale that is not in the Republican column. We’ll see what happens, but Trump, whom I totally dig will not win the presidency again and he’s just spiteful enough to destroy whoever will get nominated in his place. So go, scour that internet boy. Make up some more stupid words and no matter what, you do post your 75 times today.

The political reality on the ground is basic. Trump's ship is sinking fast. He will never win another election - even if he does somehow win the nomination.
The democrats and their media WANT Trump to be the nominee. They know how to handle him - as Trump walks into every trap. That Trump is out there trashing and name-calling everyone on team R - who refuses to kiss his ass - makes Trump a democrat asset.

donald is a very old, cranky, clearly retired fogey who has l0ts and lots of questions but never has any answers, so The Question That Is Asked Everyday But Is Never Answered will clearly have to wait.

Because of course it does.

But to humor donald, here's a few quick rejoinders:

- Why dont you know the names and donors for DeSantis when you are so strongly supporting him at this early state? Are you content to maneuver in the blind in all things?

- I can crank out 75 posts in a day in 10 minutes total while standing on my head. Althouse blog is my mental diversion/relaxation bit during the day.

- My personal and professional life, I suspect, is much more full than yours, given I have my own business and run a non-profit on the side (and we are just now heading into the busiest time of year for the non-profit (Mar thru July). Given my work and travel schedule I don't have much time for fishing or golf or shuffleboard or bowling or telling BS stories down at the VFW. Not that there's anything wrong with all that.

- I don't spend much time in the basement because my younger kids took it over long ago and turned into their laboratory/programming/flop lair.

- I might retire in about 10 years once all the youngest ones are out of the house.

- Why is it that only Inga, LLR Chuck, HBTPFH and you are concerned with the number of my posts in a day. I wonder if there is a thread of commonality amongst you 4?

So tell you what donald, you just keep fishing there pal and guys like me will keep on grinding. Just keep fishing....and keeping yourself in the dark. It appears to be a "gift" that you and HBTPFH possess.

But to make if fun, here's a little homework for you and HBTPFH (though we both know the very next time HBTPFH looks something up it will be the first time):
1) Look up Nick Iarossi of Capital City

2) Spend your normal 1.76 seconds deeply pondering Capital City's position within the lobbyist firmament. AT that point you'll still be confused but you'll just have to live with it.

3) This is a fun sidebar task: See if you can figure out what role Iarossi might have played in getting Sheldon Adelson to kick a few bucks over to DeSantis in 2018 before Adelson's death and why Adelson might have been listening to Iarossi in the first place. You'll still be confused but at least you might be able to ask intelligent questions.

4) Ask yourself why Ken Griffin of Citadel and the Koch brothers and all the other anti-Trump billionaires are all in on DeSantis and what policies they generally support.

5) After you've done all that, which isn't much at all but for you might be a mountain of work, see if you can answer The Question That Is Asked Everyday But Is Never Answered.

You won't of course. Too hard.

FYI, I'm typing this while on a client meeting which is taking far too long with the preliminaries. I might have to post 74 more times today just to get thru the introductions!

Ah - and there it is -->the little lie ... from Drag Queen.

Nikki never said "Mass" immigration makes us great.
She said what every other pol says "Immigrants are the fabric of America"... "It's what makes us great"

The liar right (that's you, Tree house) twisted her context and pooped out a lie.

Here it is - you can watch/listen for yourself.

Most families immigrated here upon our founding... and since. We are a nation of immigrants.
So - it's sort of benign statement. I think she could be stronger here on the topic of illegal immigration. she is much too careful in her wording. But don't lie, Drago. If you lie - which is what you and the tree house fan boi Trump-only crowd likes to do - it takes away your already thread-bare credibility.

"It’s what makes us great. We need as many immigrants as we can. We need the skills, we need the talent, we need the culture. We need all of that."--Nikki Haley

"We need as many immigrants as we can." Open borders are us.

Here's an alternative opinion: No, we don't need "as many immigrants as we can".

Nikki has made her preferences quite clear.

I'm not surprised the McConnellites are out in force today to defend this position, but here they are. Remember guys, you are supposed to at least pretend to be against that until AFTER the primary!

Next question for HBTPFH and the rest of the Dolt Brigade (not that any of the other questions were ever answered...Spoiler--they weren't): why is it that the roughly 215 million adult Americans and their 65 million children NEED "as many immigrants as we can"?

We'd also need to throw in another half million workers let in that have taken white collar jobs as well, sometimes after being trained by the American citizen workers who then lose their jobs.

Well, we all know the answer don't we? Because that's what the wokesters at the Chamber of Commerce along with Ken Griffin, the Koch brothers, Mitch McConnell and the Ryan/Romney's of the world want. So all the little GOPe-er suckups fall into line.

Quick aside: all those folks are strong backers of DeSantis.

Why do you suppose that is?

Drago said...

HBTPFH: "We allow immigration, Drago. Even Trump allowed legal immigration. You know that - right?"

Haley was quite specific in that she wants as much immigration as possible. You can shade that as much as you'd like but it doesn't change it.

"We need as many immigrants as we can".

I know that you are not accustomed to thinking for yourself and you are loathe to oppose your establishment betters, but I'll ask anyway: do you agree or disagree with the statement "We need as many immigrants as we can"?

(note: there was "legal" vs "illegal" distinction there, is there?)

I suspect you won't have an answer to that.

HBTPFH: "Drago thinks he's being persuasive."

It is not possible to persuade you out of a position you hold because you are emotionally attached to it. Based on your posts, you are no more capable of looking at the raw facts of a situation and coming up with an objective assessment then you are of flying to the moon.

I get it. You don't want Trump. Others you know don't want Trump. Fine. Its a defensible position. At least I could defend it. You don't appear capable of effectively doing it.

I support the policies that were pushed by Trump during his administration. Show me a better candidate who will push the same policies in the areas I'm most concerned about and I'll support that candidate. Go ahead. Name them. It's going to be a very, very short list.

If you mention DeSantis, I have questions based on his record in the House of Representatives (of which you remain blissfully unaware). I don't trust what I saw there. He was essentially Paul Ryan's puppy. I don't trust his current cast of advisors or his current major donors or many of those who voiced support for him that are in positions of influence.

It's not complicated.

HBTPFH: "Trump is a loser. So - with Trump we get a democrat. "

Oh, so today is a HBTPFH "Trump is still going to win the primary" day.

Its hard to keep up with you guys.

On some days Trump is such a loser he won't even get into the race! On other days Trump does't have a chance! He's all washed up! No one will vote for him!

On the remaining days Trump is a juggernaut that no other Republican can stop in the primary.

I don't expect consistency from you guys, but you could at least be courteous enough to provide a Schedule Of Today's Absolute Truth's so that some of us can follow along. After all, its difficult to follow the game without a program.

But my favorite HBTPFH lunatic reading of the each day's tea leaves is her bizarre insistance that the democraticals are so desperate to make Trump the Republican candidate that they will leave Trump alone to help him along......when the daily reality is democratical partisans across the nation at all levels of government are fighting tooth and nail to frame Trump for something, anything, to get him out of the 2024 race.

It's like a daily tidal wave of evidence and facts that washes over HBTPFH and drowns her previous idiotic theories and she doesn't even notice, much less even try to understand why that is happening.

And every pro-lifer should talk about Plan B in rape cases. Pro-lifers should fight for Plan B and fund Plan B, and explain the difference between emergency contraception and the abortion pill (RU-486). Pro-lifers also need to be brutal on liars in the media and remind all reporters that they have been hiding the bodies for 50 years. And ask them why. Ask them why they've been deceiving the American people. Republicans can go very, very far by attacking the media.
