Wife's bro and co didn't make it after all, so the usual dull foursome ate ourselves silly and exchanged our usual paltry gifts. My wife reminded me of the long weekend in KCMO for her cult festivities last month, and our agreement that that was more than enough of a Christmas present, so I didn't feel too bad about the light haul.

She got a bottle of Japanese whiskey from our son the former liquor-store clerk. "Is it brended?" I asked.

Stodgebelly. It's no joke.

My wife bought a little t-shirt for the pooch. Soft and light, at least it's a layer of windbreak when he goes out. Two layers, I think, since it's actually too long underneath (don't want a p-shirt) and we can double it back under his harness.

He didn't mind it at all. Our previous dackel (d. 1984) tried to wriggle out of any garments we put on him. Different strokes . . .

Was I'll the 22nd, then the power went out due to 70 degree winds. My spouse has a generator in the ready, and although lots of trips to gas station and refills at 6am in 12 degrees albeit 54 degrees in house, we made it. He even boiled spaghetti pots of water for a bath so I felt human again. Then, we took a drive, got hit chocolate, and upon returning to our home, yippee, power restored!I must say during this period, I did reflect upon what it must be like to be homeless, no showers, cold. No one would choose that.

Will AA update her (literal) profile photo in 2023?

Or will she remain immortalized as her 8-9-year-old self a la Ann Landers?

Enquiring minds...

I wanna talk about puppies and cute cats and walks on the beach, and how we can all be happy if we just love each other, and gosh darn it just why can't we all just get along.

Of course, its Christmas and I've just had a great Prime roast and a few scotch and sodas.
And I'm listening to Christmas songs.

Maybe I'll feel different tommorrow. Stay tuned.

Here’s to hoping the photo remains the same.

We can, if half of us don't insist on using the government to force the other half to do what they don't want, but we do.

Can we do that? I suspect not.

Merry Christmas to Althouse and Meade. Merry Christmas to the blog community. Happy Hannukah to our Jewish friends. I hope the New year finds everyone in good health, and surely 2023 must be an improvement?

Do you suppose that those 70-degree winds made you I'll?

2 family gatherings down. Nice visiting with families. No kids came, so the conversation was better. Chuckled when the brother-in-law made a joke about Build Back Better. Now going to deliver presents with wife and then come home and drink some wine and rest. Screw work tomorrow!

Dinner is finished, and so am I. Bro-in-law brought a 14 year old Glenmorangie. I'm in a food and booze coma.

Just got off the phone with my older brother in California. We had a great Xmas with our adult kids. Played trivial pursuit, cribbage and the dictionary game. Went for a long cold walk on the beach, we all got a few nice gifts. Supper was delicious. Only one cocktail and no sweets today. Virtue signaling. Ate a ton of salad and rare rib roast.

Merry Christmas to All and to All a Good Night.

Son did the Prime Rib Sous Vide. A big departure. I was the one that introduce Prime Rib to the holiday menu. Been doing the version of packing it in a rock salt coating. Always a big hit, and the reveal of cracking open the rock salt shell was a crowd pleaser.

The sous vide, produces a perfect slab of prime rib. Texture, flavor, tenderness, all 10's. Old dog new tricks yada. yada, yada.

Merry day after Christmas to Althouse and Meade, as well as my fellow readers. Your obsession is our asset, Ann. Thanks for all the typing and posting. Sometimes it even makes us think BEFORE we type.

Imagine that.

I bet a lot of people here would enjoy Sasha Stone's substack. I know I do.

Wishing everyone warm feet and agreeable digestion.

On to Boxing Day football and Everton. Grrrr. Suffering reminds us we're alive.

I originally read that as…” how can we all be happy if we just love each other,” and thought, I know what you mean. Life would be boring. And you can forget about Twitter.

I thought that was a great sentence. It didn’t make sense in a really image-provoking way. Like well-crafted nonsense verse.

Merry Christmas Ann and Meade. We served leg of lamb for Christmas Eve and ham for Christmas day. Lots of leftovers now.

A lovely time to thank you, Ann. I have read your blog daily for many many years and it’s made me a better person. I lost my husband this year so the holidays have been brutal but life is good.

My son smoked a beef loin and it was delicious. Watched Baker Mayfield and company destroy the Broncos. Lots of family and friends. Drive back to Tucson today. Have to decide which audio book to listen to. Happy Boxing Day. My sons and I watched the start of Sydney-Hobert last evening.

Thanks, Ann. This place is like returning to the faculty lounge, but with the stealth conservatives finally unleashed. The erudite bitchiness is bracing. The eclectic night cafes are ethereal. Snifter clink to you and Meade.

We had a strong wind storm this morning that blew down an evergreen across Tokul Rd SE, the main artery out of our neighborhood. There was about a 6" trunk across the road, blocking both lanes. Lots of other smaller branches covering the road. The county had it cleared about 2-hrs after I called it in.

There's another route out from our neighborhood. Longer and more windy. There was a "Water over roadway" sign on that route. Fortunately, the water had receded and the road was clear.
