What can't climate change cause? Just amazing. The list is endless. Lice, flies, pestilence, boils, locusts, tornadoes, hail, hurricanes, blizzards, droughts, floods, poverty, storms of a generation, storms of the century, racism, bomb cyclones, early frosts, Covid, nuclear winters ......

One of the side effects of listening to a podcast about the history of rock music, and then finding the albums and artists referenced, is that Amazon starts suggesting artists that you missed the first time around. I was knocked out by Gayle McCormick's singing on the album, although she only sang the lead vocal on about half of the songs.

Smith - Baby, It's You

Bonus song: Smith - What Am I Gonna Do (Minus-Plus, 1970)
Gayle McCormick belting out another bluesy song.

We’ve been moving our home this past week so the Christmas craziness has been held at bay. A few decorations are out and good food is still on tap. Gift giving? not so much, but the new home is one hard to beat.

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;
"For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men."

Mrs. NorthOfTheOneOhOne is having a rotten Christmas. She went back east to see her parents whom she hasn't seen in a while. Tripped on the edge of a rug they have in their hallway, fell and now has a hairline fracture of the right clavicle.

I visited some members of my extended family last weekend. I'll celebrate Christmas belatedly with my two daughters next weekend. My actual Christmas tomorrow will be in perfect solitude. I honestly enjoy low-key holidays spent alone, at least once in awhile. Being an introvert, I find it rejuvenating.

Those taking the Article VI oath of office to recognize that the Constitution was intended to limit government so that the people would have more freedom from government. Climate change will NEVER cause government to contact to its smaller role.

What made America great, when the Constitution was followed by the pols, is that fedgov was prohibited from doing so, so much. "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite." Today this just so much blah, blah, blah.

Trump in a dress (Kari Lake) gets denied in court for her claims and Hobb's validated winner, Lake lawyers sanctioned for bogus claims as the court ruling marks a major defeat for Lake, who built her candidacy on her support for former President Donald Trump’s lies about widespread election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. She has since falsely claimed to have won last month’s election.
Saturday’s ruling is also the latest blow for election deniers nationwide and harks back to the long stream of legal losses Trump suffered in 2020 as he sought to challenge his election loss. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. RNC Daniels says she lost by telling McCain supporter' to "get the hell out" They did! Brilliant piece of work. Where do they find these people?

The climate is always changing. Naturally. CO2 is not involved, the Sun and the oceans are. The oceans have 50ish-year temperature oscillations that change the weather. The Pacific Ocean is known for its El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) which changes the climate in the US.

Climatologists can't predict whether the ENSO will be an El Nino, La Nina or neutral more than one year in advance. They can't predict the strength of hurricane season six months in advance. Why should we believe that they can predict the climate for the next 80 years? Their models can't reproduce the temperatures from the last 43-years.

Garbage In, Garbage Out.

From the Alabama of my youth, a Sacred Harp Christmas Carol (Sherburne). This performance is from a 1959 Sacred Harp Convention in Fyffe, AL, recorded by the great ethnomusicologist, Alan Lomax, for the Smithsonian, a recording I first found in the music library at SF in 1974. Lomax had a great affection for this repertoire, and recorded it whenever he could. Listen for the guy at the end who says "Whoopee!". Not quite a standard liturgical response...

A great write-up on the Sacred Harp/Shape Note tradition at Wikipedia.

We're fixing lasagna for Christmas dinner. We haven't fixed lasagna in years. It's my wife's recipe. Our usual Christmas dinner has been either turkey or Cornish game hens, done on the grill. My old gas grill died last year after 19 years of service. The new one is a Treagor pellet grill which I can't operate in the rain because it requires AC power to operate. It'll be raining tomorrow and for the next two weeks.

Still unpacking boxes after we moved in 2 1/2 weeks ago, so I understand what Breezy is feeling.

Global Cooling is jacking up big time. The decrease in sunspot solars flares allows more cosmic rays thru that form more clouds that is cooling the vast Pacific until arctic cold comes down unimpeded. The arctic air descending is a climate change. But the trace gas CO2 has nothing at all to do with it. It’s all a BigLie

Time for more TV ads showing back lit steam clouds looking like dirty carbon gas flowing from cooling towers. The CO2 trace gas is invisible of course . What fools the big government guys think we are

One last post for the night.

The federal government can't keep doing this, correct? See below.

In FY 2022, the federal government spent $6.27 trillion and collected $4.90 trillion in revenue, resulting in a deficit. The amount by which spending exceeds revenue, $1.38 trillion in 2022, is referred to as deficit spending.

Vaccinated People Make Up Majority of COVID-19 Deaths: CDC Data

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that vaccinated and boosted people made up most of the COVID-19 deaths in August.

A disease that poses less than... I think it was 1% risk in the general population. The excess deaths are attributed to planned parent/hood, "vaccine"-induced adverse events in younger populations, and mandate(s)-correlated collateral damage.

Seems to me he had a perfectly legit complaint — he was going 49, believing the limit was 50, but it changed to 40 (inconspicuously) and he was genuinely surprised, apologized to the cop, but got stuck with a ticket for $650. It seems like one of these towns where they set things up to trick people and rake in fees.

The negative reaction to him over there is about something completely irrelevant: how he happens to look. He's a very nice looking young man. There's lookism against very good-looking people too... and no one seems to care. Maybe he should be fined $650 for looking so cute.

I mean, I would criticize him for touching his hair too often, but other than that, I feel sorry for him, even as I acknowledge he has a big advantage in life, being so nice looking.

Ask the Democrats. In the most recent election cycle, the Democrats boasted of spending over $50 million in ad buys FOR Republican candidates. In 2016, with 16-17 Republicans of varying backgrounds, experience, and opinions running for President, Donald Trump (pretty much a life-time Democrat) was given between 1-2 BILLION dollars in free PR by a media who turned on him as soon as he became the Republican presidential candidate. Their mistake was they underestimated just how bad a candidate Hillary Clinton was.

Subsequently, Hillary has repeatedly (in your words) "falsely claimed" to have won the election. Numerous individuals (including President Joe Biden and a few members of the J6 committee as I recall) have publicly also agreed ("falsely claimed") with her. Then there is Stacey Abrahms ...

In the Watergate hearing, a term, apparently used often in the Nixon campaign, was made public,
(from Wikipedia)

Ratfucking is an American slang term for political sabotage or dirty tricks, particularly pertaining to elections. It was brought to public attention by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in the book which chronicled their investigative reporting of the Watergate affair, All the President's Men (1974).

Dirty tricks have always been part of politics but it seems like politicians (both parties) today are competing to see who can be the worst while smugly lecturing others on their perceived faults.

Meanwhile Congress passes bills they haven't read, the President signs whatever is put in front of him, and who the hell knows what the Supreme Court is doing. "We the people" are apparently the rats in this scenario.

Biden literally said, “It’s no longer about who gets to vote; it’s about making it harder to vote. It’s about who gets to count the vote and whether your vote counts at all." The woman in charge of counting the vote in Arizona becomes governor, after major snafus at polling places, and it's "Nothing to see here, people. Move on." I agree that you can't tell half your party's voters "Get out," but the idea that her claims were baseless is also baseless.

Readering. Yeah. 82. When my daughter left OC airport it was 80. When she arrived in Miami it was 49. It neither proves or disproves climate change since it's weather and that changes all the time.
The earth is closest to the sun as it will be all year. The northern pole is tilted 23 deg. away from the sun. Hence the cold and darkness in the northern latitudes. The sun drives our climate. As the sun shows less and less activity our climate will tend to be colder for the next eleven years plus or minus a few years. Despite what Greta says.
