"'Wollumbin is interconnected to a broader cultural and spiritual landscape that includes Creation, Dreaming stories and men’s initiation rites of deep antiquity,' the group said.... However, local Ngarakbal Githabul women have said placing male-only gender restrictions on the site, as proposed in the plan, would 'dispossess' Indigenous women with deep spiritual connections to the area. Stella Wheildon, a north coast Indigenous woman, told The Daily Telegraph that the contested area also contained scared female sites. She said she had conducted extensive research on the history of Indigenous Australians in the region and found that the Yoocum Yoocum ancestors, and the Ngarakbal Githabul people were originally from the area in question. 'The Wollumbin Consultative Group has discriminated against the women and our lores,' Ms. Wheildon said...."

What's a scared female site?
Oh, SACRED! Sorry.
Is it wrong to enjoy this conflict between grievance groups? Asking for a friend.
Keeping girlz out is itself the lore.
If they're upset now, wait'll Becky finds out how much work aboriginal women did for their tribe in every pre age-of-discovery Neolithic society around the world.
I'll hand it to aboriginal men the world over, how they managed to hunt, fish, and have sex all day while the women did everything else is a masterclass. I kneel.
Upset by the way women are being treated in this management plan?
Just wait until they learn about Islam where women can be beaten and it's divinely sanctioned.
Surah 4:34.
The gender fluid movement will have a field day with this.
Have any of the sparked outraged protested the exclusion of non-Muslins from Mecca?
The wonderful thing about oral faith traditions is the way they combine a really inherently sketchy and necessarily self-serving body of “evidence” with the non-negotiable existential claims of religion.
Throw in some material prizes to be won or lost, and you’ve got yourself a bloody intractable mess.
In this case, we get the additional cross-cut of sexism.
Pass the popcorn.
They should be banned. They never do what you ask them to do, whether it’s watching your wallaby feed or tying your kangaroo down, fer chrissakes!
Scared female sites! Hahahaha!
If this was the belief of white Southern snake-handling hillbillies, the NYT would be outraged. Why are superstitions indulged?
Compare and contrast. Safe spaces on college campuses. Blacks only dorms. Blacks only student centers. Enjoy.
Whoda thunk it?! The NYT leading the charge of cultural imperialism.
"scared" or sacred?
typo or Freudian slip?
The Wollumbin National Park summit trek has been closed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and will be shut off from the public permanently following an announcement from Minister for Environment James Griffin last month.
I'm a Christian so the idea that God has made things that are too good for humanity resonates. But the idea that we're not allowed in does not.
Wollumbin Aboriginal Place sounds like a housing development and the HOA passed a restriction making “men only”.
Site of the He-Man Women Haters Club.
Are those the religious and cultural norms of the local indigenous people?
If so, they have no case.
Lefties tell us that it must be respected at all cost.
This article used a BUNCH of words, that i just did Not understand.. They Must have been foreign
the whole of the mountain is considered a 'men’s site.'...
WHAT are "men"?
..Group has discriminated against the women
WHAT are "women"?
If they're using jibber jabber made up words; like "men", or "women" HOW can people take them seriously?
'What's a sacred female site?'
Saks? Bloomingdales? Nordstrom?
So they set aside a natural area and declare it a place of sacred celebration of cultural Aboriginal men's traditional initiation rites, and the women get all heated up about misogyny for being excluded, just like Aboriginal women were, traditionally.
White man just cain't stop colonizin'.
Some North American tribes have been trying to ban academic menstruating women from handling old skeletal Indian/NA remains.
God, it's fun to watch. . . . .
Ah well you can chuckle at (or applaud) the Australian kerfuffle. But here in the States you'll find that enviromental regulations and environmental regulations will often halt proposed consruction which might interfere with some indigenous peoples "sacred" sites.
Of course there are no sacred sites on any Indian reservation where a casino might be built.
All of this is based on a false belief that there a point in time in the past where society had no predecessors. There was no beginning of society. Even the first branches of Homo sapiens had predecessor societies. Determining which era of history has a perpetual claim on land is a fool’s errand.
Primitive peoples almost always had sacred rituals and places for men only. "honoring" that runs counter to modern equality dogma. Come see the inherent contradictions in the Leftism.
They should call the park "GROSS" (Get Rid Of Slimy GirlS), with a hat tip to Calvin and Hobbes.
When this shakes out, we'll see who's higher on the Accredited Victim Hierarchy.
This all started with that couch cushion fort you built with the sign "No Girls Allowed."
Now live with that.
It is almost like no one under the age of 40 has seen "Crocodile Dundee".
Just because a old policy has the title "indigenous" applied to it doesn't mean that it needs to be followed today. There are many ancient indigenous policies that are immoral and illegal in modern society. You can respect the history of the policy, but it shouldn't be followed today if it is obviously unfair. After all, you wouldn't argue that the Germans should be able to persecute Jewish people today because it was a part of their culture in the 1930s and 1940s or that whites in the American South should be able to own slaves because it was a part of their culture before 1865.
"the whole of the mountain is considered a 'men’s site.'..."
Thank God for colonialism wiping out the awful patriarchy.
"men’s initiation rites of deep antiquity"
The Other's patriarchy was of deep antiquity.
But the way, did any aborigines care about initiating women? Into what?
Even if they are too young or too old to menstruate? The Ngarakbal Githabul men are really Old School. Yookum Yookum pride, baby.
Indigenous women with deep spiritual connections to the area. Stella Wheildon, a north coast Indigenous woman, told The Daily Telegraph that the contested area also contained scared female sites.
Male chauvinism and The Patriarchy: what can't they do?
the dingoes ...you know the drill
Can someone tell me why the Taliban gets a pass for their subjugation of women (real subjugation, not American feminist claptrap) but people are riled up over Australian Aborigines' culture? They were on that continent first!
Oh! The Taliban has AK-47s and the the Aborigines have spears and boomerangs. Got it.
> What's a sacred female site?
Wouldn't that be every Planned Parenthood location?
Supporting traditional belief systems at the same time as contemporary ideologies often leads to incoherence. Compare how the left treats Israel versus Islamic nations on civil rights. Women. LGBTQA. Capital Punishment. Alcohol and drugs.
I don't see the problem. The women can identify as men for as long as they are within the property boundaries of the sacred site, can't they?
Just declare it a urinal. No woman will want to get near it.
Ve (sic) respect cultural differences.
What's a scared female site?
A Gosnell office, a Cecile clinic, a Green deal, a Democrat safe sanctuary to sequester the "burden" of evidence. #BanBurdens

Critter @ 10:37: “… Determining which era of history has a perpetual claim on land is a fool’s errand.”
The trick is to get your tribe’s origin myth up on the board before others do. The origin myth goes back to the beginning of all things, so nobody else can gain priority. If they try, your shaman will simply “remember”additional elements of the story that contradict or explain away a competing claim.
It’s a nice business, especially when the white colonialists can be browbeaten into writing some fat checks.
If a group of common descendants want to get together and use the old rules to feel proud of themselves and overcome some of the bad behavior they went into from British culture I am all for it.
The Japanese go to shrines, I go to civil war battlefields. I don’t care if they make a man mountain. Let the women understand how these native men feel for a change. And give them a woman mountain place too, if that’s where it’s at for them.
A common complaint of men is that women want to keep them off the lake or the golf course, they find it hard to leave you alone, it could just be me though.
ALL females are forbidden from entering Mount Athos in Greece. The prohibition on female animals is not as strong. The Holy Mountain has a large cat and chicken population that would be impossible without females.
In AA we have men’s meetings and women’s meetings.
Why not go the wise Salomon way and split the mountain between the men and the women?
Do I have to think of everything 😉
What's a sacred female site?'
Saks? Bloomingdales? Nordstrom?
It's Bloomingdales on Black Friday. Only the bravest will enter, and damned few men will return alive.
Oh my goodness. Indian folk fighting over stuff. Guess I’d better stay out of this one. I’m a gay white guy, so I don’t have much say in these things.
Are there any male pole dancers?
Asking for a gay friend.
LOL. And it continues. Which fractional group has the most oppression? I identify as a member of the Anasazi group. I hereby announce my claim to the four corners region as my ancestral burial grounds, where the present Amerindians massacred my ancestors. I demand reparations and all the land!
Will they allow trans/simulated-males? Trans/social?
"Some North American tribes have been trying to ban academic menstruating women from handling old skeletal Indian/NA remains."
I coordinated federally funded highway projects in Alabama with tribes that claimed a connection. When human remains were found, some tribes allowed male and female to enter. Some restricted women of child bearing years. Some would forbid any women to enter the area. But at least none seemed to care what the others allowed.
Critter at 1037 nails it for the big prize.
When someone conquers North America and exterminates the insufficiently compliant, the heavens will not fall. I, for one, will welcome our new overlords, insect or otherwise.
A bit of background: we are talking about Mount Warning, named by Captain Cook for dangerous offshore reefs. It is a volcano, extinct, a fairly easy climb. People ignore the closed gate and head on up. This is a local power play between black activists and lefty politicians.
Mount Warning is the first place on the Australian continent to get the morning sun. Try to be there at dawn , some climb in the dark, some camp overnight. Well worth it.
