The Kari Lake battle in AZ is the story of the week. We're actually missing it. Same day dropped off ballots are the last to be counted. Heavy R. She's going to win.

I don't know about Masters. AZ could split like WI.

If Kari Lake pulls out AZ, facing obvious corruption....

Will it be Donald Trumps fault?

What happened to the Paul ‘Hammertime’ Pelosi story?

Also, notice how a federal judge struck down the student loan forgiveness grift two days AFTER the election?

I get it...Trump judge.

But the Biden administration knew full well that what they wanted to do was illegal, but did it anyway in order to sway the midterm votes...

So how did FTX avoid SEC scrutiny? You know the crypto company that is now in bankruptcy, after blowing $16 billion of investor money.

"(SEC Chairman Gary) Gensler, a former campaign finance chair for Hillary Clinton, is of course not the only prominent Democrat who may have been willing to flex his influence on behalf of FTX. SBF (CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried), you may recall, was one of the biggest donors to President Joe Biden, while his parents—both Stanford law professors—have ties to the party. His mother, Barbara Fried, leads a group called Mind the Gap that helps raise Silicon Valley cash for Democrats, while his father, Joseph Bankman, drafted tax legislation for the powerful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass). It’s not a stretch to imagine SBF sought to exploit these political ties to his benefit."

I'm at the biker bar this evening, and there is the sign for our friend John, who was in a horrible motorcycle accident. By horrible motorcycle accident I mean he was on a motorcycle, but the other vehicle was a truck, who the driver of which later explained that the sun got in his eyes.

So John was in the hospital for weeks, because he had been about as killed as someone can while still actually living. The sign at the bar is for people to help out with vehicle fare for getting him to and from medical appointments. Cheating off my snapshot of the sign, his injuries were the following:

5 face fractures
ruptured spleen
ruptured kidney
punctured lung
13 broken ribs
fractured back
shattered pelvis
skin grafts.

They had helicoptered him from Kitsap to Harborview and thought he would lose a leg but it is still a part of him, for now at least. (Get well, John)

Anyway, it lately seems like a lot of people are breaking down, or being broken. So I get home and start catching up on Althouse because -- among other things -- everyday there is a sunrise to see.

And I see that St. Croix mentioned me in a comment, and so now I have to look it up to get it right...

Found it. From yesterday night:

"Can I just say, even though the Althouse blog is an excellent writer workshop resource, it's like she's not organizing it for me at all! Have you noticed that? The damn tags don't help me. I have to rely on motherfucking Blogger to find my shit on her blog.

Possible tag: Not my dream

Meanwhile, while I am bitching about this, it just now occurred to me that Laslo has been tagging his shit for years! "Call me Laslo" or whatever the fuck he says."

I hope the italics work. And the italics-but-bold shit. I tried.

Anyway, this stuck in my head because, well: "Call me Laslo" or whatever the fuck he says."

And I can't help but think: Really? I have signed my comments with "I am Laslo" since 2014, how can you not remember that? Three words, for fuckity-fuckle.

Then it dawns on me hard that all the posts I wrote here -- and there were hundreds -- were just drops of water into the endless deep Lake Mendota of Althousia. Now: I do not mean that sexually, so stop that. More like a geological thing is what I mean.

I wrote some good stuff, but: time goes by. Things come and go. 2017 and shit. Medications change.

And now Croix is throwing down?

Croix is gonna metaphorically gonna key my 2017 Laslo SuperGlide?

I mean, I remember when Althouse said she never read my "Girl with the ponytail on the treadmill" stuff because she didn't like the swish-swish thing, and that stung like a motherfucker, because I thought that was good stuff: I created a sincere female character to refract Althouse's writing through, and then evidently I fucked up with the swish-swish. Dang.

And -- fuck -- now I realize that 'refract' is one of those words that eventually stops being a word if you say it enough: refract, refract, refract, refract. So now I am deleting a paragraph that connected Fract to Fiddle-faddle to Fraggle Rock to Labyrinth and David Bowie as Jareth, The Goblin King. Except I am mentioning the deletion because it did eventually get to Jennifer Connelly as a sixteen-year-old girl who is way too hot to be a sixteen-year-old girl: Hollywood, those bastards. Can't just delete that.

Anyway, I have been digging on Croix's comments of late, but I am Laslo, dammit.

I am Laslo.

The last few days have seen some outstanding posts, but I'd like to single out Michael McNeill's exposition of the ways that different cultures have counted and named the years.
I was tempted to print it out to study. (7754 A.M.?!? Man, I really overslept!)

The AZ vote counting process would embarrass a 3rd world shithole. Are they retarded or do they think we are?

I see now that Democrats have been inspired by Uncle Fester, kamilla can be the next president because it’s really the Democrats that will be in charge. The person no longer matters. Mail a ballot to everyone who was born after 1850, it’s all good, we will collect the bad ones, no Id needed.

But let's not keep pretending that unhealthy, morbidly obese women are an ideal.

@Althouse, I have to admit that your posts over the past couple days have left me nonplused. Okay, a blind, irrational hatred towards Donald Trump I can sort of understand. He rubs some people that way, especially elitists who don’t much care about the plight of people financially less well off than they are. But why in Heaven’s name do you let the New York Times get you all whipped up about Elon Musk? Do you honestly think anyone who writes for the Times knows anything at all about modern business practices? Do you think the company can survive without ruthlessly cutting dead wood?

You portray yourself as a champion of free speech. I would have thought you’d be cheering Musk on and hoping he succeeds

B. Definitely B. Why? Because of mail-in ballots. Why? Because of the China flu. Why? Because anything to get rid of Trump. All the while McConnell and McCarthy stood down.

Mail-in ballots are here to stay until the R's get a spine or learn to cheat.

THIS is how you know January 6th was a government run attack. WHY are they protecting Ray Epps who for 2 days was yelling and screaming that everybody has to go to the Capitol. He is on video helping others pick up fencing and barging towards the doors. YET Cheney the Progressive War monger wants to protect him?? Ask yourself again, WHY?? WHY aren't we hearing from him?? HE was there. This is a crock of shit, meant to divide us more. Nancy is in it up to her neck. SHE refused the National Guard. They embarrass me. Regarding elections, “The New Neo” put up some good insights last night. I can’t do them justice here except to summarize that the D strategy is to collect ballots (voting infrastructure/process) while Rs continue to seek votes (win voters’ minds and get them to the polls). The difference reflects Stalin’s grim joke. Until Rs learn to beat Ds at the ballot game, they will continue to lose.

As I was looking back to statements made up in here on the upcoming RED WAVE delusion FOX entertainment center and the media was pushing, I see this interaction between one of the many Loquacious (that person sat next to you in school and never shut up and babbled incessantly) posters on midterm election predictions. It is obvious this person has never handicapped a real race and why would anyone listen to the babbling from these folks? Here is the statement that was posted. "The Republicans are running multiple first-time Senate candidates who are either wacky, or exceedingly weak candidates -- Oz, Vance, Bolduc, Walker, Masters. The knowledgeable response:

I see that you prefer RINOs. All those candidates will win and it's about time.... The previous losing president (House, Senate and presidency,1 term fellow another who continues to lose) also endorsed those election result deniers and far right-wing bat nuts individuals. Weak is an understatement. Delusion is a serious illness, but it is more prevalent in today's Politicking. Silly, as a handicapper I would never place a nickel bet on the LOQUACIUOS wonders up in here, it's a losing wager as evidenced through results. Never bet a dead horse! Now we are watching the meltdown and blame game with the expected fraud if I lose, wonderful if I win scenario's like watching school yard shenanigans you know "your mother wears combat boots! Oh yeah, yeah oh yeah, yeah! C'mon man can't we all just get along :)

You low2ered the bar and now you want respect? Doesn't work that way. I made two predictions. One that Tammy Duckworth would lose. That was wish casting and if you're from Illinois you'd know that. Illinois is the most corrupt state out of 50 states. And if you don't know what that means is that every politically connected candidate gets re-elected. Votes don't matter because there are more where that came from.
The other was that on the news of Republicans taking back the house the DOW would go up a thousand points. Markets-free markets- hate democrats. Markets hate Democrats because Democrats don't know shit about economics.
Run along.

I'm using BC and AD because I'm not Jewish, and because its been the standard usage in the USA since 1609 AND in western civilization for 2000 years. Why should I have to "Defer" to jews or muslims? Why did they come to a majority Christian country if they didn't want to abide by established cultural beliefs and norms? They don't use AD or BC in Israel or Iraq. If I moved there, should they have to change to defer to Christians and Europeans?

I prefer A.D. and B.C. myself — and use them. It's worth noting in this regard, however, that “Christian countries” in general have not used the AD/BC convention universally (or “cosmically”), not even since the convention was invented (in the 500's A.D.), much less “for 2000 years.”

Indeed, throughout the Middle Ages (which are judged to have begun about 500 A.D.) and beyond, the medieval Roman Empire (often termed by historians the “Byzantine” or “Eastern Roman” Empire, but actually it was just the… Roman Empire) made little use of the western AD/BC dating convention, even after it was invented.

Instead, the Christian Roman Empire of the Middle Ages (and thus its modern religious descendants: the Greek Orthodox, various Slavic Orthodox, and other “Eastern Orthodox” Christian traditions, have traditionally) dated things according to the “Year of the World” (or “… of the Cosmos”) — abbreviated A.M. or Annus Mundi. To the medieval Romans — speaking (mainly) Greek — it was Etos Kosmou or the Year of the Cosmos, symbolized ε.Κ.

A.M./ε.Κ. (a.k.a. the Byzantine calendar) was also the official calendar in Kievan Rus and Russia from 988 A.D. to 1700. The calendar made it's way all the way to Ireland! Moreover, the (Ecumenical Patriarchate: that is, the Constantinopolitan) Orthodox Church employed the calendar officially as late as 1728 A.D. — and it's still in use today in Eastern churches.

A year A.M. (or ε.Κ.) is based on the count of (Julian calendar) years since the “creation of the universe,” according to the Jewish Septuagint Biblical tradition (which differs by more than 1,700 years from the modern Jewish date for creation) — occurring, according to the Annus Mundi tradition, on September 1, 5509 B.C. (in the Julian proleptic calendar).

Today — November 13, 2022 A.D. in the Gregorian calendar — is October 31, 2022 A.D. in the (A.D.) Julian calendar. Therefore (since we're now beyond September 1 in the Julian calendar, i.e., New Year's Day, for this year), it's now: October 31, 7,531 A.M.
