Howard said...: It was 70F at Walden Pond yesterday. The water was 61. Got to swim all around the pond with a beautiful mermaid. Then we hiked all through the woods to the Fairhaven Bay overlook on the Sudbury River. The white clouds against an ultramarine sky as the bright sun glinted off the water. A lone canoe made it look rather Adirondackish. Lunch in Concord sitting outside basking in the glow of our physical exertion content in our good company.; 11/13/22, 7:26 PM

Leaned to swim there, back in the day before it was consecrated and just a pond. Had a pier, a beach, and lots of swimmers. Roland Robbins, who was a house painter at that time and the man who located the remains of Thoreau's cabin, lived three houses down from us. Spent the weekend in the woods looking for Bambi. Nothing came within range, but it's still fun sitting there watching the sun come up and listening to the woods come awake.; 11/14/22, 9:19 AM
