I do exactly this — get up at 3 a.m. Eastern Time — and I do it from the Central Time zone.

The world waits breathlessly for him and his take. Less waiting = more paradise. Oh my my.

If the news is so crackling, why doesn't he just turn his clock back five hours and avoid the global warming he produces with all this travel? And how much does he travel while nagging the rest of us about global warming?

C'mon Matt. Calculate you carbon footprint. No excuses, no fudging.

He answers his mailbag at 2 p.m. while having a cup of tea. Bedtime is at 11, and he never rises before 7:25. Showers are every other day at 8:15 after he eats one egg on toast.

From the dribs and drabs, it sounds only rhetorical? Alas, then, be still my beating heart.

We're working milkman's hours, Althouse. Everything old is new again.

"So I'm moving to Dublin if they'll have me".

Sounds like more than a rhetorical response. Suits me.

He'll be able to experience American culture in its entirety as fully in a foreign county as he does in the USA bubble he inhabits now.

They say that in the future, a pill will give you all the advantages of sleeping so you can stay awake all the time. Maybe you already have a prescription.

Why do I imagine this guy as effeminate?

When I had a federal government job in Honolulu, I would arrive at 7am deal with my DC HQ business in their early lunch then move to the regional hq on the West Coast before handling my Hawaii business after my lunch.

When in Seattle, and blogging was becoming a thing, I found it convenient as a consumer as when I logged on, the East Coast writers already had their posts up and waiting for me.

Tina, when has simple, direct thinking and Matt Yglesias ever inhabited the same universe?

It's good that you are staying active in your Golden Years.

I guess you have to squeeze your pre-morning run in there.

A "crackling hot take on the news"? Matthew Yglesias??

HahahahahHAha!!! That's a good one...

Yeah, send us your crackling hot takes from your new Irish locale; with such 'hotness', you might as well send them via message in a bottle.

If I "could no longer live in the US" would be a different place than "if I had the opportunity to live abroad, where would I like it to be?". The first would be some place without an extradition agreement with the US because I must have done something bad if I could no longer live here.

If he moved to Signapore, he could be a day ahead of the game.

Depends on the sun.

Lately I’ve been getting up at 2. Not intentionally. 4 is better.

People get into strange patterns, when doing the thesis phase of a “part time” PhD I went to bed at 4 pm, studied from 11pm to 6am, and worked fro 7 to 3:30. Sounds crazy but it worked out.

I once moved to Ireland when "I could no longer live in the US".I spent a delightful decade plus in Dublin and Tipperary. Eventually the charges were dismissed. If nothing else, Ireland is far preferable to prison.

Crackling hot takes on the news are pernicious.

Matt Yglesias would do better to let his crackling hot takes simmer a bit, something doable from any time zone.

Sounds like the distillery tour in Oban Scotland, once you visit Oban, you will always come back. ( tipsy crowd guy) why? To face charges?

I assumed the crowd guy was a employee.

My Dublin-born brother-in-law, now well into his 60's, says he would never move back to his family home on Ard Ri Road near the Guinness plant (at least that's where it used to be), because fully half the residents are NOT Irish.

"There used to be a kind of satisfaction in being a bog-hopper", he told me.

"It's all gone now. Dublin's now just another mongrel Euro-City."

Dublin has changed all right, and in many ways not for the better. Non Irish residents are now about 17% I believe. I preferred it when it was more Irish, but things change. It is still a lovely country. I'll probably retire there in the next 10 years.

Well at least his ignorance can be excused - he's never been to Vancouver. "English Speaking Cities"? He should go to Vancouver and see that the City is now almost 50% immigrant - mostly Chinese.
