"If I emailed my parents like Democrats email me."

The best McSweeney's piece I've seen in a long long time.

Spot on.

That is pretty funny. And you can add the Republican National Committee to this list, as well as the AARP, insufferable division.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

btw - I watched the "Mexico" themed bake show episode on Great British Baking Show - and it was very tame and not offensive in any way. The bakers were required to make traditional Mexican cakes (tho - with a strange twist - always with the over-wrought decoration) There was no mocking... Like every episode of the silly show - they use world-wide regional baking themes to help make the show interesting. That the left think Mexico is off-limits is very puzzling.

Why did the left lose their minds? oh yeah - that's what they do. Cancel everyone!

Looks like Republican emails to me.

Never contribute to a political candidate. They will never leave you alone.

Another McSweeney's gem.

"Also, when you get a chance, can you buy the card?"

Very funny.

I get 3 or 4 per day of that sort of thing from Beto O'Rourke.

And 3 or 4 per WEEK from Marco Rubio.

Yes, the style book is terribly powerful in this form of media.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Yes, the problem isn't limited to Democratic Party email, but maybe McSweeney's folk haven't noticed. I get stuff from both parties, though I try to unsubscribe now and then. I NEVER give money. Obviously, they have way too much money and they spend most of it asking for more.

Enigma म्हणाले...

Fundraising emails? I thought that was content from the Jan 6 hearings or Biden's "Black and Red" speech in Philadelphia.

Never give money to organizations that spend on direct mail. That eats into their 'mission' and becomes a self-eating snake and then an ideological bubble and then "Defund the Police" or "Raid the Capitol" nonsense.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Do you still get these if you switch to Independent? I've thought about switching to that to avoid this mailings.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

"independent" is a party, I believe.

You want "unaffiliated" - Freeman.

I think it's more likely that none of their contributors ever donated to the GOP or interacted with a right-leaning group that would have a reason to sell their email to the GOP.

That was a funny piece. I loved McSweeney's when it was pretty much the only good humor site on the net. Going to make an effort to read it more.

I'm still a registered Democrat, so my plan (rubs hands) is to make them spend more and more money on on me.

Aggie म्हणाले...

Ms. Althouse, yes these mailings are a lot like the Month Of Pink, from AVI

In Wisconsin, there’s no registration by party. The parties are just guessing I might be receptive.

Thanks for sharing. That was genuinely funny. Sent it to my college daughter.

Meh, RNC is just as bad. Also the Montana GOP had the brilliant idea to robocall all us known Rs to tell us to vote R in November because uNiTeD wE sTaNd etc.

Achilles म्हणाले...

I get the same bullshit from Rand Paul.

I like a lot of Rand's positions and his efforts.

But the constant money grubbing is absurd. The longer someone stays in DC the more of a money grubber they become.

I think you can be a Senator without becoming a Politician.

Rand Paul has failed to do this. I think Rand Paul is better than all but maybe 10 people in DC. But he still sucks.

Trump was President without becoming a politician.

This is at a fundamental level why we support him.

They are all on the same team and they all hire the same consultants.

Montana doesn't have registration by party either and I used to do phone banking trying to find out people's leanings for the party's database. Boy that was a bitch.

Most people never answer. Those kind souls that did were asked five obnoxious social con questions Karl Rove wrote for the 2000 Ohio primary. Or something.

Like "Do you agree with the DEMOCRATS that the Ten Commandments should be removed from the state capitol?" Only not so clear soni had to rewrite everything. Lol good times.

When a candidate asked for an output of Republicans in his district, it was an awfully short list.

Leland म्हणाले...

No registration for party in Texas, but oddly I get emails from Republicans and text messages to my phone from Democrats. I know none of them would pass such a law, but I so wish I could charge them for handling their communications to me. Because if a I had a dime for every one of those communications...

Esteban म्हणाले...

I'm registered independent and I still get these from both parties via email or text (mostly text these days). I either delete the item or respond "F' off".

Michael K म्हणाले...

I get a dozen of these a day. What is annoying is that I get the scolding kind from people I have donated to. Mine are all from Republicans (But I did get one from a confused Democrat). No different. All the same.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I can't because I NEVER send money to the RNC, with that Romney clone in charge.

MadTownGuy म्हणाले...

As shown on other posts, I get emails from D Party candidates in my new home state - most go to the "Promotions" folder, but the ones from Fetterman and his missus are in my primary inbox. I'm not registered with the D Party but they seem to think I'm like minded. Bless their hearts.

My wife was a Democrat when we got married but saw the light shortly thereafter and hasn't voted for a Democrat in decades.

But she never changed her party registration. After a while she decided to stay a Democrat because of all the funny mail she was getting.

Howard म्हणाले...

I don't get shit from anyone right left or none binary. I did get a letter from Hillsdale College a couple days ago that I recycled to save the whales.

Jim Gust म्हणाले...

I actually took the time to respond to some emails from Republicans asking me to "chip in." I wrote that conservatives don't "chip in," that is what Democrats do, conservatives "contribute." Told them to stop sending such poorly thought out emails.

Never heard back, oddly enough.

I don’t think it’s party affiliation. It’s if you’ve ever made a donation and made the mistake of providing your real email address rather than the account you set up for spam and never check.

I get an occasional text to my cellphone, which is odd because I’m pretty careful not to give that out. But it’s tolerable. The emails run at about 200-250 per day but I don’t see them unless I look for them.

effinayright म्हणाले...

I get dozens of such messages every day, all from Republicans. Every politician in the country---and lots of scammers---wants my money. Apparently they've interpreted "All politics is local" to mean I should help fund state campaigns outside my own.

It's got so bad I start my mornings by viewing the senders and opening (but not reading) those coming from friends, businesses I deal with, or which just might be interesting.

The rest? I hit the "unread" button to collapse the list and then delete them all. With the different email addresses I have, we're talking about 150 messages a day.

Later I go back to read the few messages I kept.

(don't get me started on the charities hitting me up via snail mail every single day. If you've given money to one, they will put your name on a Suckers list and sell it to all the others.)

But did I mention that all the various charities and grifters are still giving away "gifts" like wall calendars, pens, address books, note pads and a whole bunch of shit suitable for a pre-computer , pre-Iphone age?

And how they try to "guilt" you by attaching a nickel to their mailing so you'll feel bad if you just put it in your pocket and ignore their pleas?

Or how about garden gloves? I must have received ten pairs by now.

Basta!

I wonder which parts of that Gruen wrote? Apehouse and Water for Elephants were good but their narrators did not have that voice.

As I mentioned in the other thread, these things get sent out because they are effective with someone. They may be garbage emails, but they are effective garbage emails.

On one of my email accounts I was getting unsolicited emails from one party. I unsubscribed and immediately starting getting emails from the other party. At the moment I get emails from both. The emails are pretty similar, other than who they purport is the sender and what they are grousing about. They all want money, even when they explicitly say they don't want money.

It's way too late in the game, but I can't resist responding. The start of a number of these sound just like the ones my mis-gendered alter ego "Gayle" gets a couple of times a day from "Nancy Pelosi." I complained once about the misgendering, but all that did was elevate me to a live account, so the begs went into my normal email instead of going directly to spam.

Can't speak for Gayle, but I've never given a dime to any of these imbeciles. I can't believe anyone would respond to this tripe by making a contribution, but I suppose there must be some or they wouldn't keep it up.

I haven't tried unsubscribing because I find I mildly amusing (if perhaps depressing) to look at what they think will attract the bucks.
