Chris Christie says "sure" he's considering running for President in 2024.

That's at the very beginning of this clip:

They go on to talk about whether the U.S. would be better off with "a royal family of America," a concept that causes Chris Wallace to gasp "Oh, my God." Who would be the royal family? Maher says the Kardashians.

I live in New Jersey and I say go to hell Chris. He is a Progressive Rino. No thanks.

Of course he is. It's not his lack of self-awareness. He's aware of his status as a buffoon. He's just willing to put up with the derision to keep up the grift. It's his real job.

There is a certain utility in separately embodying the Head of State and the Head of Government. It makes it much harder for the temporary Head of Government to conflate opposition to their policies with opposition to the Permanent Institutions of the State, as illustrated by the regular appearance and disappearance of the sentiment that dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

Reverence for The Declaration and The Constitution were able to fulfil the role that reverence for the personage of the Head of State fulfils in a monarchy. With both of those documents being disparaged by a significant faction of the citizenry we are drifting ever closer to a Monarchical Presidency from the first evidence of that process almost a hundred years ago now.

It's quite plausible that Chris Christie will run against Donald Trump in the Republican primary elections. I hope that this development eventually will draw Ron DeSantis into the race.

Temujin said...

Most politicians are delusional. I guess you'd have to be to stick around that arena. Christy would make it as far as Kamala Harris did in her primaries. Only he would not have the benefit of a vagina and proper skin color to retrieve him from the trash heap.

Wilbur said...

Good luck, Mr. Christie. You'll need it.

He and Trump had some less than nice things to say about each other during the 2016 primary. But that's par for the course. No biggie.

Where's the constituency urging Christie to run?

Lurker21 said...

Candidates do get a lot of free food.

In lieu of a debate, Chris Christie and Larry Hogan ought to wrestle for a place on the ballot.

I believe Trump has experience officiating, though sumo probably has different rules.

Chris Christie's best moment - and it was glorious - is when he took down Hillary at the GOP convention prior to 2016. Freaking awesome.

cfs said...

Any candidate running for the GOP Presidential nomination will need the support of the majority of Trump's voters to win. Christie can't get that support. Neither can Pence. It would be foolish for either of them to run and expect to win.

They do not like the Trump supporters and they are obvious in their disdain so it will be interesting to see how they attempt to solve that problem.

His ego is as inflated as the rest of him.

Also a Jersey boy.

Interesting how they all seemed to forget that Biden said it would be OK for Putin to take a little piece of Ukraine. Otherwise, doing a bang up job. And Russia does better when we stop drilling here.Otherwise doing a bang up job. Oh, and we haven't been near nuclear armageddon until now, but otherwise doing a bang up job. And the Saudis work with Russia to drive up prices while we stop drilling, but otherwise doing a bang up job....

"Overtime" is the perfect name of a show featuring Bill Maher, Chris Wallace, and Chris Christie.

It's more likely, if Christie runs, that Dems will change party affiliations ahead of the primary so they can vote for him as a potential straw candidate. Then, even if Christie would win the general election, no doubt he'd be a 'go along to get along' kinda guy. Very much unlike Trump.

So Fatso Christy needs a job. He could be appointed DOT bridge czar.

Can't imagine why he would bother. Any momentum Christie might have once had in presidential politics is long, long gone.

Maher goes on and on about the stupidity of "election denial" practiced by Republicans, but his first show after Trump became President was him saying he was not a legitimate President.

Given a choice between the Kardashians and the British royal family I'll trajectory the Kardashians every tome with no hesitation.

They are far classier and unlike the British royals, including Liz and her forbears, actually earning
Their own keep by producing value for society. Value defined as something that people exchange (pay) for voluntarily.

Ditto for Kardashians over America's version of royalty, the kennedys. Joseph p and ancestors excepted.

Christie running is the same as when Huck or Santorum ran a second time. They have no chance but it keeps them in the limelight, on TV with possible book or endorsement deals. Grifters gotta grift.

Kamala turned a losing campaign into the VP slot. Buttagieg turned it into a cabinet post. Christie should at least get a CNN gig.

Darkisland said...

When he said royalty, how many people thought of any other than king chuck et al?

There are still dozens of royal families around the world. But the only ones we ever thi of are the Brits.

Fuck royalty, British and others. I'm an American.

Some opinion writer recently argued that DeSantis would run because he's learned from watching people like Christie that you have a moment. If you don't jump on it, the moment passes you by, and then you're a has-been who still thinks he can be President.

What doe Christie do for a living these days? Doe he have a job? Lobbyist? Grifters and if so how?

Christie had the opportunity to develop himself into a formidable nationwide political character, but his appetites - not just for food - got in the way of his ambition. He's settled for being an obnoxious loudmouth instead. Nowheres-ville, man.

Only if the winner has to face JB Pritzker in a lumberjack match!

Discussions promoting titles of nobility in the US are self-disqualifying for a candidate. Christie may run, to get campaign money, but he isn't going anywhere.

I think Christie would do a better job than Biden, and I think, demonstrably, that Trump did a better job than Biden. I am discomfited by the way that, with the exception of Christie, they all complacently think that Biden is doing a masterful job of handling this crisis and has been a better President than Trump.

Saint Croix said...

Mind-boggling to me that they're still talking about Trump.

Astonishing.

I have never seen it in my life, this obsession (this fear!) of an alleged loser. Why can't you let him go?

Trump terrifies them

All my life people have become upset/unhinged at the lunatic from the other party in the White House. But I have never seen this madness continue when he has no power whatsoever.

Biden is in office, plenty of people on the left wish they could replace him with somebody else. He's the most obvious and recent example of the point you want to make.

But apparently Biden is so inconsequential, that her mind immediately goes to Donald Trump as her example. It's like some lizard part of her brain is telling her that citizen Trump is the powerful and dangerous one, watch him.

Meanwhile, President Biden, who might accidentally cause a nuclear armageddon, the most obvious example in the world right now, and he doesn't even occur to her.

"I can't focus on 2022, I'm stuck in 2020."

It's horribly stupid behavior by journalists and commentators, and yet they are still doing it. Update your calendars, you dumb fucks. You're not reading the news, you're reading the olds!

I know Trump haunts your dreams but he has no actual power now. Holy shit.

I am fine with a royal family, as long as it’s not the incest obsessed, low IQ fuckups occupying the White House right now. Maybe start with that direct descendant of George Washington they found in Texas. Our elections are largely a joke as it stands, maybe it’s better if our ruling class doesn’t have so much incentive to divide and conquer its own people.

Until that day, my policy is going to be to vote for whomsoever the ruling class hates the most, right now that is Donald John Trump.

I have heard it suggested that Dolly Parton should be our reigning queen. She is certainly a better fit than any of the Kardashians. She projects good will and exists on a higher plane than politics. Who wouldn't welcome her presence at any ribbon cutting ceremony.

Rollo said...

My US history teacher told us that the reason we don't have monarchy is that George Washington's closest living relative was named "Bushrod."

A parliamentary system that separates the ceremonial head of state from the head of government is a good idea. A king or president can be a potent symbol of national unity and a steadying hand advising political leaders, but it's too late to change now.

If Trump and Christie had put aside their differences long enough for Christie to have been Trump's Attorney General, Hillary would be a convicted felon (DC juries, notwithstanding) and the DOJ/FBI Deep Staters would have run for the hills.

Rabel said...

Doesn't look to me like Christie is going to be "running" anywhere. Despite the lap-band surgery, he's back up over 350.

I think this is great. I'm all for the next president to be a somewhat overweight, pugnacious Italian-American with a record of considerable executive competence.

Not necessarily this one, but hey, I'll take what I can get.

We do have a royal family in America. It is “We, the People”. We’re the sovereign and we’re each sovereign. We each reside above the government and the government our servant. It’s our government that neither accepts or respect this concept and we’re entirely too weak minded to enforce healthy boundaries.

So, in the alternative, I propose Dolly Parton as head of state.

@Kate, that was Colonel Kurt who talked about the DeSantis moment. The other great example is Mario Cuomo, though his Hamlet act in 1992 did give the Democrats Bill Clinton.

Christie ran for POTUS in 2016 and thought he would win. He got 7 percent In NH, and dropped out.

Trump offered him a Cabinet position but christie wanted AG or nothing. He says Kushner was responsible for him not getting the job. He sent Jared Kushner's dad to prison.

Christie recommmended Chris wray and a whole bunch of other GOPe types to Trump. Had Christie been AG, he probably would've turned on Trump and stabbed him in the back even worse the Barr. He's a loser.
