Bulldoze, demolish, and hammer.
I get the metaphor — construction. But it's all in the demolition phase. Destruction, not construction, including "hammer." I know you can build things with a hammer, but "Hammer Madison Special Interests" is a picture of clobbering opponents. And he's even got the word "killing" in there. I know it's criticizing Evers for "killing" jobs, but I don't think I've ever seen a political ad with so much metaphorical violence in such a small space.

Oh, so negative and puerile.
But it got your attention!
Is metaphorical violence bad?
Cops murdered by the anti-police "movement" would disagree.
So I see that Tim Michels lives on WI Hwy 49 that runs through Brandon, so perhaps he isn't such a bad guy after all. And he will not say that Brandon won Wisconsin but declares that "no quid pro" was involved in his endorsement from Trump.
On second thought, he is a bit "mealy-mouthed."
Glenn Youngkin never had to cry about voter fraud. Michels is going to blow it.
In order to replace anything- you have to get rid of the old.
Remodeling ain’t pretty. And in this case, down to the bare bones seems in order.
That’s how I take it- anyway.
You gotta do, whatcha gotta do to get rid of the Progressive America hating Regimes.
"Is metaphorical violence bad?"
It worked for Hawaiian Punch.
It's advertising.
The question is whether this is good advertising.
I understand looking for ways to justify this after it happens, but the candidate needs better ads.
It's fine advertising if you are seeking votes from people who just want to be left alone and not have their communities blighted and their schools radicalized and their words scrutinized by democrat busybodies demanding "change."
The "change" blather is far more authoritarian and violent. Look at the leftist fascists who destroyed your community's business district. This ad also echoes "tear down this wall."
In this case: "tear down this plywood covering shop windows by making the streets safe for decent people again, instead of painting stupid pictures on the plywood and pretending the violence didn't happen."
It's not a terrible ad.
I suppose torch, loot, and vandalize are preferred metaphorical verbs for use in political ads in Madison.
It sounds like a 'shovel ready' job.
but the candidate needs better ads.
???
why? you don't think it's working? When people asked Harry Reid about using character assassination,
he said: "we WON, didn't we?"
Sometimes a hammer is just a hammer. Somebody had to say it. At least he didn't say 'target,' or use a gun scope graphic.

"It worked for Hawaiian Punch."
Cartoon violence.
I think Michels should have scaled it down and played off the popularity of HGTV. "Ya gotta demo to reno."
Semi-Fascism is everywhere in MAGA Country!
I'm sure the FBI, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have been notified and put on alert.
Althouse would not approve of this ad because it is attacking the status quo that retired university professors represent. That would be the comfortable liberal set that has been running so much of our society's institutions entirely for their own benefit. The type that become governor and then tell Republicans to leave a state, they're not wanted.
The time of reaping the whirlwind for such Marie Antoinette-isms may be upon us. That's where this ad is coming from. The ad declares that this candidate is ready to transgress past the status quo on behalf of those residents who are sick of their tax monies being used to promote policies, programs, and people who have been busy destroying the culture those offended residents value.
So it is a good ad. And it taps into only about 1% of the anger that's out there. More is likely coming.
Bulldoze, demolish, and hammer.
What, no F-15's?
The left's anti-police agenda is alive and well in Boulder. 3 of our city council members raised their paddies when asked if they want to defund the police. Crime is off the charts here.
Criminals are let go right after they are booked. If booked at all.
Loyalists to democratics deny it all, of course. Whine "but Fox news"
As if Fox News could create this?

Only when Trump supporters use it.
Democrats/GOPe can send minions out to burn, loot and murder and it is "Mostly Peaceful."
Ann thinks this guy needs better ads. Fair critique from her point of view.
But Ann doesn't live with the people who are being attacked violently and economically by this regime.
The Biden Regime is violent and hateful and divisive. I notice Ann and the media are running away from the latest rage induced rant fest full of lies and stupidity from Biden. This add is nothing compared to calling 75 million voters semi-nazi's.
Are the collective whiney green haired left whining about "terrorism and violence" yet?
Gadfly - vote for the corruptocrats. It's right up your ... alley.
Are Wisconsin voters in the mood for Tim Michels and a "tear it all down" message? A positive message of rebuilding is more appealing.
Don't forget Maxwell's silver hammer.
It's not exactly Reagan's shining city on a hill.
To have a sitting President talk about using F15s on Americans is the worst of all violence. Beiden is a tough talker, his dong is bigger than Lightfoot’s.
"Hammer Madison Special Interests"
This is exactly what needs to be done for the betterment of all Wisconsinites. Some state agencies need to be moved out of Madison. No modern reason Madison has it all. And culturally, Madison in truly the outlier.
When you realize that Governor Tony Evers allowed Kenosha, WI to burn for political gain in the summer of 2020, this is child's play compared to the violence that Evers allow Wisconsinites to suffer.
It's heartbreaking to live next door to Milwaukee and watch it deteriorate with drugs, poverty, violence, car jackings and thefts, and rising murder rates. Its rapid deterioration accelerated under Tony Evers. His liberal appointed judges are even polluting sane, hard working, conservative counties and putting them at risk.
The Dead Dancing Grannies should remind all Wisconsinites what Tony Evers, John Chisolm and Madison think of the rest of us. The people of Madison, WI don't give a shit about any of this. As long as their ivory tower is funded through Taxes and Student debt, they're good.
The Dancing Grannies and little league children literally got bulldozed at the Waukesha Christmas parade. It was a direct result of liberal crime policies supported and pushed by Tony Evers.
Trini Lopez version was better.
Althouse said: I'm just noticing the violent verbs
As of August 7, 2022 Milwaukee surpassed 500 non fatal shootings in addition to 130 homicides.
This is the new violent reality and it will only get worse under Tony Evers. I'm torn, because Milwaukee picks this for itself. Madison doesn't care.
Just keep it out of Waukesha County, OK??? We like our grannies and little league kids.
Hillary had a hammer. She destroyed Classified information that was subpoenaed with it.
Demolition is the necessary precursor to new construction.
God forbid, the ad might have included bullet points!
Now that you mention it, he could have used different words. But this is good illustration of how words don't act as viscerally as images, and printed words don't affect people quite so strongly as spoken ones. People would probably be more offended by a television (or radio) ad with the same words and theme.
Pro-abortion is progressive, but, presumably, spare the babies (from planned parenthood), and grannies (from planned parent/hood) is a conservative perspective in the otherwise liberal modern model.
Bulldoze, demolish, and hammer are tools of progress (i.e. [unqualified] monotonic change). Scalpels to remove tumors, acid baths to remove tarnish, vacuums to remove detritus, and guns to conserve life, too.
"I don't think I've ever seen a political ad with so much metaphorical violence in such a small space"
You must have missed:
Defund the Police
3 words, way more violence. Oh, but it's actual, not metaphorical, violence.
I don't think I've ever seen a political ad with so much metaphorical violence in such a small space.
Kenosha burned because of Democrat malfeasance
It only stopped burning after Kyle Rittenhouse killed two thugs, and shot a third.
We'll see how many Wisconsin voters that lesson is NOT lost on

Glenn Youngkin never had to cry about voter fraud. Michels is going to blow it.
So, DD, let's consider some questions:
1: Were the "vote drop boxes" actually legal?
2: Was it a violation of WI law for people to sign up as "indefinitely confined voters" because they claimed to be afraid of Covid? Was it a violation of law for Democrat vote registrars to encourage people to do that?
3: Since the ONLY difference between an "indefinitely confined" voter and a voter who just wants to vote absentee is that the IC voter doesn't have to provide State issued PhotoID in order to vote, what do you think was behind the Democrat push for lots more "indefinitely confined voters"?
4: You keep on babbling about Trump giving US Farmland to Taiwan, or some such BS. I keep asking you for support for that claim, and you never respond. Will you continue to not respond?
5: Youngkin had a team of people to prevent Democrat vote fraud. Because every competent GOP candidate in a less than R+10 electorate needs one
Democrats lie and cheat. We all know. Democrats are merely fine with it.
A time when even the counter-culture 'hippies' wore suit and tie.
We are not living in that America anymore, much to our detriment...
That’s a picayune take on language I wouldn’t expect from Althouse. Our president said Mitt Romney would put black Americans back in chains on national television and got nothing but praise from the DNC Media. Since being selected president he’s said worse and he will do it again tonight in prime time. I look forward to reading about his dangerous rhetoric tomorrow but if it’s here that post won’t have the same passion as this one and the distorted headline accompanying it.
Remember in 2020 when VP Harris cackled about the summer of violence she was looking forward to (and funding bail for the perps)? She laughed and laughed and declared, “And it’s not going to stop!” Referring to violent riots and burning city centers. That gets a pass from the smart set too.
While the progressive democrat activists light the cities on fire and the mob beats the crap out of people wearing red hats, while they conduct Soviet-style show trials and characterize 50% of the country as 'semi-fascist' because of their presidential vote, the republican bad guys use 'violent verbs'. Republicans are 'bad'.
There's a great picture of Evers looking straight into camera wearing what looks like a coffee filter. Put that in upper corner of a smoldering image from Kenosha.
"Never Again"
Fun fact: hammerheads are scavengers. Sometimes things are not what they seem.
It's a targeted ad. Cuts like a knife to get to the razor sharp point. How else do you take out your opponents? I'm sure he's happy to give a shovel so they can dig their own graves.
@Althouse, is there anything Tony Evers has done that doesnot deserve to be bulldozed?
Re: "If I Had a Hammer" -- I worked for many years in various sheet-music shops. One day I got a call from someone looking for a solo piano work by Aaron Copland called "Commoner's March." Checked the standard music-in-print books: nothing. Checked various small academic publishers (A-R Editions, things like that): still nothing. I thought, Copland was in the WPA, so maybe it's some kind of socialist/Communist mass-song sort of thing. No luck.
Called the guy back; he was very irritated and said, "But you had a copy yesterday!" Light dawned. I said, "You don't by any chance mean "Fanfare for the Common Man," do you?
Told this story to my husband, saying "And here I thought it was something like 'If I Had a Hammer'!" He said, "Nah, it's the companion piece, 'If I Had a Sickle.'" Tee-hee!
