"Deceptively edited videos that have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on Twitter and TikTok exaggerate the speech issues that have plagued John Fetterman..."

"...the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s open U.S. Senate seat, after he had a stroke in May. Despite policies on both platforms against political misinformation, the videos remained up for days and were shared by Fetterman’s critics. The videos include slight edits, such as cutting out the sound of the audience to make it appear as if he had abruptly stopped speaking (some of the stops occurred when he was pausing during moments of applause and crowd reaction, according to unedited videos seen by NBC News). Other edits cut Fetterman off midsentence, to create the perception that what he was saying was nonsensical.... The videos could run afoul of Twitter’s rules against political misinformation, even though they are still available.... Experts have warned that such lightly edited videos, also sometimes called 'shallow fakes,' can be particularly effective pieces of misinformation."

We have to be able to edit video, but where is the line between editing and deception? NBC tells us it has seen the edited and unedited video, but it doesn't show any of it to us. I can't take NBC's word for it, because I must assume that NBC wants the Democratic Party to control the Senate and will run interference for Fetterman.

Surely, we're not required to show the full context of everything. Highlighting the worst lines and the stupidest speech of one's opponents is a time-honored political tradition — and comedy device. Will Twitter empower the already-powerful to take down whatever is edited to make them look bad? That's a terrible idea, particularly since there's no chance Twitter will perform its role with viewpoint neutrality.

As for TikTok, I'm guessing what found its way there and gained viewers was funny. It's unseemly to laugh at a politician if he has brain damage, but it seems unfair to claim to be capable of holding office and, at the same time, to forbid us to laugh because he might lack capacity. If it's wrong to judge him, he shouldn't be running for a position of trust.

The people who are pushing John Fetterman into this position should be hung from a tree by their entrails.

John Fetterman had a stroke. He is sick and he needs to heal. There are things he needs to spend a lot of time doing to get better.

The effort it takes to be a senator will shorten his life and impede his recovery. He will not be able to do the job properly because it requires a lot of work to do it properly.

But democrats like putting brain damaged invalids into jobs they don't belong because they like using puppets and discarding them when they are unpopular for implementing disastrous corrupt policies.

Democrats are just shitty people.

NBC news is an utter disgrace. These are the same people who knew Joe Biden was an incompetent, mentally failing idiot, but played along with his disappearing act for a year instead of doing some actual journalism and reporting on his failures. Listen to their news today and you can maybe count to 5 before you'll hear them utter the word 'Trump' as if that's all the news in the world...still.

Fetterman is Joe Biden redux. A mentally and physically incapable person being protected by both the Democratic Party leadership and their employees in the media, vying for a position in the US Senate. Even in good health, Fetterman is a socialist child with socialist child ideas and a childish bully's approach to communicating who you would never hire to be the face of your business, yet would fit in perfectly well with the Democrats in Congress. That's in his best days.

He is not currently in his best days. And if our 'leading' news organizations are not willing to show exactly what's going on in Pennsylvania, they should simply admit they are Democratic organizations and continue with what they're doing. I'd be OK with them if they just admitted, Hey...we're NBC News, a division of the DNC.

I don’t listen to politicians speak, I judge their actions and Fetterman seems incapable of debating, which is a routine activity for Senators.

NBC News Admits ‘Error’ of Edited 911 Call in Trayvon Martin Controversy (Video)

NBC News said Tuesday [April 3, 2012] it has concluded an investigation into its repeated broadcast of an edited version of a 911 call placed by George Zimmerman that made it appear he was racially profiling Trayvon Martin the night he killed him.

NBC’s Today broadcast the 911 call last week, but its edited version made it appear that Zimmerman blurted out that Martin looked suspicious to him because he was black. The full audio from the phone call, though, reveals that Zimmerman didn’t mention Martin’s race until the 911 operator asked him, “Is he white, black or Hispanic?”

MSNBC has run similar segments with the edited version of the call.

“During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,” NBC News said in a statement e-mailed to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday. “We will be taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening in the future and apologize to our viewers.”

When asked if anyone at Today had lost their job or had been reassigned as a result of the investigation, an NBC spokeswoman said: “We will not be commenting on our course of action.”

NBC’s statement comes a day after The O’Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel chastised its competitor for taking so long to investigate what it thought was a simple matter. NBC announced on Saturday it had launched its investigation.

During the O’Reilly Factor segment Monday, guest Bernie Goldberg, formerly a CBS News broadcaster, told host Bill O’Reilly the edited tape was either the result of gross negligence or purposeful distortion to advance an agenda. Video is below.

“Hey Bill,” Goldberg said, “if you or I were running NBC News, the investigation would be over 10 minutes after it began. We’d call somebody in, we’d say, ‘Who did this?’ We’d ask, ‘Why did you do it, what were you thinking when you did it, and did anybody tell you to do it?’ I don’t think they’re investigating it anymore; I think they’ve got a bunch of PR people around a big table trying to come up with a way to spin this to the public and do the least damage to NBC News.”

Would NBC have done a report warning us that there are videos circulating which have been deceptively edited to minimize the speech issues plaguing John Fetterman? I doubt it.

I'd bet you a nickel, if NBC does air video of Fetterman speaking, they edit it to make him sound better. And if they don't air video of him speaking, it's specifically because they don't want to show him in a negative light.

Famous video (or film in the old days) that was clearly "political":
1. Ed Muskie crying. This seemed to confirm the messages from the Nixon campaign that Muskie was emotionally unstable. His staff claimed there were snowflakes melting on his face. In New Hampshire, which I guess would not be a total shock.
2. Pat Schroeder crying. This one's obvious--men are allowed to cry (at times), women may be unfit.
3. One of my favorites is Bush Sr. apparently baffled by a grocery checkout machine. This was great video in that it seemed to confirm in a second that Bush had never personally purchased a loaf of bread or a quart of milk--he had servants to do this, he was out of touch, not "one of us." His staff claimed he was quite familiar with somewhat old-fashioned machines, but this was a new type. Supposedly he was rightly praising the benefits of technology.

Who exactly are we going to allow to censor such stuff? I always thought it was fun, even if unfair. The media were always looking for signs that Reagan was out of it, and I for one wonder if the dementia was working before he left office. Biden is a feast which his supporters are trying to ignore.

Manipulation by the Media: Lessons to be Learned from Zimmerman v. NBC

.... The complaint describes three ways in which the 911 was spliced. NBC initially edited the call as follows:

Zimmerman: There is a real suspicious guy. Ah, this guy looks like he is up to no good or he is on drugs or something. He looks black.

The next day, NBC broadcast a different edit:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good or on drugs or something. He’s got his hand in his waistband. And he’s a black male.

Two days later, a third edit was broadcast on the Today Show:

Zimmerman: He looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

What all three edits have in common is that each hides that Zimmerman described Martin as black and as wearing a hoodie only in response to the 911 operator’s questions about race and clothing.

=======

Dispatcher: Sanford Police Department. . . .

Zimmerman: Hey we’ve had some break-ins in my neighborhood, and there’s a real suspicious guy, uh, [near] Retreat View Circle, um, the best address I can give you is 111 Retreat View Circle. This guy looks like he’s up to no good, or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy is he white, black, or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.

Dispatcher: Did you see what he was wearing?

Zimmerman: Yeah. A dark hoodie, like a grey hoodie, and either jeans or sweatpants and white tennis shoes. He’s [unintelligible], he was just staring . . .

Dispatcher: OK, he’s just walking around the area . . .

Zimmerman: . . . looking at all the houses.

Dispatcher: OK . . .

Zimmerman: Now he’s just staring at me.

[....]

Zimmerman: Yeah, now he’s coming towards me.

Dispatcher: OK.

Zimmerman: He’s got his hand in his waistband. And he’s a black male.

The media “discovers” attribution, context, editing issues when they work against their partisan interests. When Trump was president anything he reported was accompanied with “Trump said” and usually followed with “without evidence.” When Obama was President an Obama quote such as “The border is secure” needed no such qualifiers.

Biden’s Red Sermon speech was “deceptively edited” in real time by CNN when they realized how Hitlerean it was playing: red became pink. Anything from NBC on that deceptive edit? I didn’t think so.

To be fair media has always been deceptive in crafting narratives. The so-called glory days of objective journalism of “And that’s the way it is” Walter Cronkite were simply bias more insidiously planted to a more naive audience.

The only cure for all this deceptive speech is more speech, deceptive in the other direction. And caveat emptor: Let the consumer beware.

This story is just more harness and buggy makers complaining that cars are hurting their business. NBC used to own expensive cameras, a rare nationwide broadcast network, editing capabilities, and access to experts. Now everyone has cheap and ready access to all those things. While I agree that NBC News selectively edits its stories, and does so intentionally, I don't think having the United States Military attack them and take them over is the right solution. Where do you think that will likely end up?

In an extraordinary public apology, NBC said Tuesday night that it erred in staging a fiery test crash of a General Motors pickup truck for its “Dateline NBC” news program and agreed to settle a defamation suit filed by the auto maker.

“We deeply regret we included the inappropriate demonstration in our ‘Dateline’ report,” said a statement read by NBC News co-anchors Jane Pauley and Stone Phillips Tuesday night. “We apologize to our viewers and to General Motors. We have also concluded that unscientific demonstrations should have no place in hard news stories at NBC. That’s our new policy.”

The apology, still being negotiated within five minutes of air time, was part of a settlement of a lawsuit GM filed Monday over film used in a Nov. 17 segment of “Dateline.

What I want to know is, what's that English muffin doing on Fetterman's neck?

Hopefully, Savanna Guthrie and Lester Holt going under the guillotine blade.

I remember when you folks had Hillary Clinton on deaths doorstep, how frail she was, how she slurred her words, how she had a stroke etc etc etc . Here we are in 2022 and she is still sharper and more spry than Trump.

Inga has become completely delusional.

Please be kind to the mentally ill.

Russia Collusion Truther and Hillary/FBI Hoax Dossier Dead Ender Inga: "I remember when you folks had Hillary Clinton on deaths doorstep,..."

LOL

Fake news.

But we do all remember the many times you had Trump at death's door. And you claimed Trump had an incestuous relationship with Ivanka, and you were all over the hoax pee tape. And the hoax russia collusion, and the hoax dossier.

Interestingly, you basically STILL believe every one of those things.

It's almost as if you had not just zero self-awareness, but negative self-awareness so powerful it sucked the self-awareness out of everyone around you in a 6 state area.

“NBC is lying.”

Inga: "This coming from Drago, of all people."

Tell us more about what "Mueller really knows" and "walls closing in" and how, just months ago, you reiterated your strong believe in the russia collusion hoax and the hoax dossier.

This should be fun.

My favorite Inga "bit" about all this is how she went silent for months and months and then reappeared, pretended to not ever having cared about russia collusion, and then forgot she was claiming russia collusion was no big deal to then let the mask slip and jump right back into Blue-Anon Conspiracy Central!

Good times, good times.

There is plenty of evidence that the military, especially the high command, is every bit as corrupt as NBC.

I can't remember the last time PA Dems held both U.S. Senate seats and the governorship, except for 2009-10, after Spectre switched parties to run for a sixth term. Really, I wouldn't be surprised if it was never.

Looking more and more like that's what we'll have next year though.

Speaking of "lying", now would be a great time to start "baby stepping" Inga away from her long, long, seemingly endless litany of lies over the last 7 years related to Trump and conservatives in general.

Let's start with a very easy one for any normal person, but potentially a very difficult one for someone like our Inga:

Inga, did Trump improperly feed Koi fish in Japan while with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe?

Remember, you were all over that purposely misleading edit job from all the legacy media outlets and you went to town attacking Trump over it.....right up until the complete footage was made available and exposed the lefty lies.

Even for you Inga, that ought to be a manageable "walkback".

Let's see what Inga does......

Inga must have a different definition of "spry" than anyone else, or she's confusing her chardonnay-inspired delirium for reality.

Shorter Inga: "Look! A distraction!"

Wicked solutions are the ethical/religious prescription and forte of left-wing ideologies. Hopefully, the libertarian right, and the conservative centrist, will realize a better resolution of crimes that do not include premeditated abortion in darkness (i.e. murder) and other capital crimes against humanity and civilized society.

looks like all journalists and NBC-media has learned about concealing sources and methods from DOJ/FBI even without help of Judiciary as provided in US Constitution.

Just look at what he's saying above."

I agree. He and Wendybar, Jupiter, and others, who frequently post on Gateway Pundit, Breitbart, The Conservative Thinker, Legal Insurrection, and other places, have now moved over to Althouse. They often keep their same names and post the exact same posts here, without reading what Althouse has written or the citations she refers to. They just write to each other in an echo chamber. You will notice that they keep talking about violence and killing our political opponents, like having the U.S. Military attack NBC News and take them over. And using the guillotine on them. They also keep comparing the Democrats to Hitler and Stalin. And all Republicans who don't tow their line are RINOs and/or communist collaborators. It's like they want us to become like North Korea and Communist China with violent attacks against all political opponents. Or maybe they just want to shut down this blog. I hate to say this, but perhaps it is time for Althouse Blog to do a bit more moderation of comments, like it did a while ago, before this gets out of hand. I was a liberal Democrat when I was young, and the first Republican I voted for was Ronald Reagan. But what is happening in the comments section in this blog is not Reagan Republicanism.

I eagerly await NBC news to push for the release of all the 1/6 footage to provide a more complete picture of events.

Maybe Fetterman can borrow Joementia's Juicers to concoct a helpful recipe, if they have any spare time.

I see no reason to believe NBC unless there are links to the edited and unedited videos.

If someone/something has that power, that's a problem right there.

Remember that footage of Trump passing out and being tossed into a van like a sack of potatoes? And the Trump people pretended that it was no big deal--he just "powered through?"

Oh, wait...

Sometimes I think Inga is really Tucker Carlson just jerking us around.

Even if Hillary is more "spry" than Trump is now, it doesn't change the fact that she definitely was not in 2016.

If there is so much deception going on, why is he avoiding live television and debates? The guy is having issues, and his campaign is being deceptive about just how serious they are.

Here's an oldie but goodie from Inga in 2017.

Trump's bodyguard testified that there were no hookers in Moscow peeing on beds and it was all ridiculous. But, naturally, our self-proclaimed Mind-reader Knows-All Inga just "knew" better.

Inga...Allie Oop: "Doesn’t occur to anyone here that of course Schiller tried to shoot down the Dossier. Yes he would lie under oath for his boss. No doubt about it."

So much certainty, eh Inga?

Interesting note: Inga STILL believes in that Hillary/FBI hoax dossier. Every bit of it. Passionately.
