Public urination in Kalamazoo? I can't hold it that long.

Michigan has a primary soon. I have to decide which Republican for governor. It’s not an easy decision. I’ll also pick a Republican to run against the winning Democrat for Congress. And it’s pointless. This is a Democrat neighborhood. I don’t know how this ends in November. A big change is unlikely, I think.

You want to see people donate blood?

Offer them one credit point for every five power red, platelets or plasma donations.

I donate once a month and to hear (over the phone and billboards) their pleas for more, I think we could incentivize better.

Unless there's something preventing it, I'm not foreseeing.

We still can't have nice things.

Sunday morning Jonathan Turley announced on Twitter that he has tested positive for COVID. He did as many do, he tried to post a creative tweet, something other than just a basic I-have-COVID type of announcement. He succeeded. He takes the award for best COVID announcement, at least among recent ones.

Jonathan Turley
@JonathanTurley

Jul 24, 2022
I have joined the ranks of the Covid positive despite being vaccinated and double boosted. I caught it after my wife became positive...

...So far I have flu-like symptoms. I am displaying the common strong cough, headache, sore throat and an overriding desire for a special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation.

https://hotair.com/karen-townsend/2022/07/24/jonathan-turleys-covid-announcement-is-perfect-calls-for-a-special-counsel-in-the-hunter-biden-investigation-n484849

Which came right after Turley'column in The Hill the day before:

'Astronaut Buzz Aldrin once said the key element of his life was “timing … I have been blessed to have been in the right place at the right time.” It is the same defining element of Hunter Biden’s life: No matter what crime or corruption is alleged, he has escaped responsibility, often by pure political serendipity...'

I like Turley because he has a great sense of humor...and doesn't take prisoners.

I want to vent about how disappointed I am in the female attorney I work for with regards to the RvW thing. We were in a meeting discussing a client that was upset with the way their green card was going. Her response was something along the lines of "I get that he's upset but I have a hard time feeling sorry for him I mean, I no longer have any rights as a woman...."

?????

She's a partner in the largest firm in Seattle. I expect this kind of hysteria from 14 year old girls but an attorney?

I was reading the other day about the Bruce Springsteen tickets going for $4000 apiece in some places. I saw The Boss twice back in the '80s (Tacoma Dome in '84 for the Born In the USA tour and the Waldbuhne in West Berlin in '88 for the Tunnel of Love tour) and he put on a great show both times, but four grand is way too rich for my blood. Instead, today at work I listened to an old radio broadcast of him from 1978 at Winterland in San Francisco. Three-hour show. I lost my taste for his new stuff and political posturing some time ago, but the old stuff still sounds good.

After that, I listened to Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's Nine Tonight, one of my favorite live albums. My only quibble is that it was a 2015 remaster to which they had added another "bonus song" at the end. In a case like that, it doesn't go with the flow of the rest of the album. Tacking something else on after the climactic song at the end guarantees that it will suffer by comparison. Most of the time I'm okay with bonus music, but not on a live album or a concept album where the added music just doesn't fit with the rest. A well-crafted album isn't just a collection of songs thrown out in random order.

Beasts, I heard a segment on (ta-da) NPR this a.m. making exactly that argument--in this case the variant is, "We can't know we're in a recession until it's over, so we're not in a recession and the word should be banned from public discourse."

Sort of a Heisenbergian approach.

A third phase in opening in the Ukraine war. In 1 the Russians tried to sweep in and overwhelm the country using what's been conventional since WW II. Airborne troops dropping on capital cities; tanks and helicopters moving forward on lines of advance to crush the country in sections. The Ukrainians responded with Javelins, Manpads, drones and other war-changing technologies. And the Russians retreated from Kiev
In 2 the Russians concentrated heavy artillery firing over long distances on the Ukrainian held territory in the Donbass. In general the Ukrainians did not have heavy long-range artillery with which to stop this firing and so they retreated slowly out of Mariopoul and Luhansk - the industrialized Donbass area and its port.
In 3 the Ukrainians got the HIMARS system which allows them to strike Russian logistic bases and bridges and command posts. So now the Russians have fewer shells to use for obliterating opposition before they advance and fewer commanders to organize their war and bridges for resupply are unsafe for heavy military vehicles. Civilians ca still use them. And meanwhile the Ukrainians have begun an advance between Odessa and the Crimea to win back territory.
If you look at the ISW post for today, half-way down you can see a map which shows how the Russians cut back on shelling after HIMARS arrived in mid-July. Of course, they are still tossing random shells into Ukrainian cities and killing sleeping civilians. This terrorism has been part of the Russian war planning ever since it was tried out on the Syrians and worked on them.

Pasted below are excerpts from two emails from Wisconsin Gov Tony Evers. I'm not sure how I got on the these mailing lists. Certainly it is NOT due to giving the Ds any money. Somebody must think this stuff works.

Sent the morning July 22,

Hi, team – I’m Governor Tony Evers and I have one clear message to share with you: All Wisconsinites deserve the right to control their own bodies. Full stop.
That shouldn’t be a political statement, but these days it is.
Before I go on, can you please make a split donation now between my campaign and the Democratic Governors Association to help elect Democratic governors across the country who can safeguard abortion in the states?
RUSH $3
Here’s the thing: I have seven grandchildren who are girls and young women. The Supreme Court’s dangerous decision to overturn Roe stripped them of their fundamental rights as equal citizens.
I think that’s bullshit.
Since the Supreme Court thinks my grandkids shouldn't have the freedom to decide what happens to their bodies, I'm taking action. In June, Attorney General Josh Kaul and I filed a lawsuit against Wisconsin’s archaic 1849 law that would ban nearly all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest.
And I’m not the only Democratic governor fighting back.
In Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer filed a lawsuit and used her executive authority to urge the Michigan Supreme Court to ensure Michigan’s arcane 1931 ban never goes back into effect. And in New Mexico, Nevada, and Illinois, they’ve signed legislation guaranteeing the right to an abortion in their states.
We’ve made progress to protect our states from these shameful Republican attacks, but this fight isn’t over.
We can win in Wisconsin and battleground states across the country, but only if we take action TODAY.
That’s why I need your help, team. Will you split a donation between my campaign and the Democratic Governors Association before midnight tonight so that we can win across the country and the DGA can hit their critical 48-hour deadline?
If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Donate $3
Donate $6
Donate $12
Or donate another amount
I'm so grateful to have your support, especially during moments like this one.

Onward,

Tony Evers
Governor of Wisconsin
In heavily gerrymandered Wisconsin, Governor Tony Evers acts as a brick wall against Republicans’ coordinated efforts to suppress voters, ban abortion, and gerrymander their way into power.
Last year, he vetoed six bills designed to suppress the vote and NINE anti-abortion bills.
Will you answer his call and chip in now to elect Democratic governors? All donations will be split between his campaign and the DGA.

Second Evers email:

This came the morning of July 23.
2022 DNC Congressional Split Series
The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last month. And an 1849 law criminalizing all abortion -- unless the life of the pregnant person is at risk -- could go into effect in Wisconsin.
I don’t think that a law that was written before the Civil War, or before women secured the right to vote, should be used to dictate these intimate decisions on reproductive health care. That’s why, here in Wisconsin, we’re suing to challenge this archaic abortion ban.
Meanwhile, my Republican opponents are already running a scorched-earth campaign to divide our state. We don’t have to imagine what they’ll do if they’re in office because they’ve already told us: vowing to enforce the state's abortion ban and fire any prosecutor or sheriff who refuses to enforce it. We can’t let that happen, Harold, which is why I’m reaching out today.
Add your name to receive updates from my campaign and show you’re ready to defeat ultra-MAGA Republicans, help elect Democrats, and defend abortion rights.

Two days before the Supreme Court’s decision, I called a special session of the Wisconsin Legislature, asking the GOP-controlled chambers to repeal the 1849 law. And guess what? The Assembly and Senate didn’t even take a combined 40 seconds before they gaveled out.
Ultra-MAGA Republicans are working to ensure our kids and grandkids grow up in a world where they have fewer rights than previous generations did growing up -- and that’s just wrong. Democrats will never stop fighting for our fundamental freedoms, and we need this entire grassroots team by our side. I hope you’ll join me.
Thank you for everything,
Tony

The correct response to such statements is "So, you think Black Americans are incapable of reporting to work on time and working hard at their jobs. I thought Colored Peoples' Time and Lazy Black were just white supremacist jibes at our fellow hard working Americans. Thanks for proving that you're a white supremacist. Of course, you'd really like to use the pejorative that the Klan used for Black Americans instead of Black Americans."

Because women and men possess neither dignity nor agency, and human life has progressive value, Democrats will never stop fighting to establish the Pro-Choice ethical religion, including the wicked solution: human rites performed for social, redistributive, clinical, political, and fair weather causes.

Also, slavery, diversity [dogma] (e.g. racism, sexism, ageism, classicism), and political congruence.

Rape... rape-rape happens in darkness. Demos-cracy is aborted at the twilight fringe.

Thinking about assassination this morning. Not sure why. There are two people I hope have good security details.

Tucker. His monologues are getting very very dangerous to our rulers and he is speaking directly to tens of millions of citizens. His voice and platform is unique and irreplaceable. He is not always right ( who is?) but he says things that no one else will.

DeSantis. If they decide to take him out now it is Trump and the Smurf’s for the Rs. The D’s know how to beat Trump.

Both Tucker and DeSantis are fulcrum points for us now. Is it unconceivable that our ruling class would use political assassination as a policy tool?

Is it such a large step from Epstein to a sitting Governor or popular broadcaster?

One story, maybe the official story, is that Bill Clinton took Democrats back to the center after years in the wilderness, cutting off the party left and replacing liberal purism with pragmatism.

Another story would be that Clinton's commitment to radical free trade and off-shoring, eventually drove the working class and the Democrat centrists away, leaving the party in the hands of a new generation of liberal purists and hostage to the party left.
