Chris Wallace is trending on Twitter.

Lots of stuff like this:

Here's the piece at The Hill, with this, from 7:22 last night:

“I’m kind of skeptical about what we’re going to see tonight and over the next couple of weeks,” Wallace said. Asked why, Wallace cited a couple of reasons, including the “hype” and “over-selling” of the committee.

“You’ve got Jamie Raskin, one of the members of the committee, saying ‘this is going to blow the roof off the House,’ you’ve got Adam Kinzinger saying ‘It’s going to change history.”

He also mentioned the hiring of a former ABC executive to produce the event. “I think that’s a bad look both for the committee and the mainstream media to seem that they are hand in glove with each other.”....

That's about exactly how I felt about it.

Let me just quote — without linking — a bunch of tweets about Chris Wallace that are part of this morning's trending of his:

• Is Chris Wallace a far right conspiracy theorist now?

• Chris Wallace has been enabling liars his entire career. Why stop now?

• Chris Wallace angling for a job back at Fox?

• A skeptical Chris Wallace means he doesn't recognize the truth....poor rat bastard.

Congressman Steve Scalise alleged that lawmakers violated a federal law prohibiting the use of federal funds to hire a publicity expert to influence the opinions of American voters.

In the interview, Scalise asks, “Who paid this Hollywood producer?” He goes on to state that “it’s against the law to use taxpayer funds to produce a documentary trying to promote their political agenda, or go after their political opponents.”

It appears that Scalise is referring to the 1913 Gillette Amendment, which states, “No money appropriated by an Act shall be used for the compensation of a publicity expert unless specifically appropriated by that Act.”

The long-standing, century-old law has long been a flashpoint of discussion in Washington, further amplified by regulations of the Federal Election Committee, which prohibits independent expenditures that seek to defeat a political candidate or party.

Since when has Chris Wallace been a Republican? I never knew. "Bad look for the committee and the mainstream media to seem that they are hand in glove together." It isn't a bad look. He is just upset that more people will notice the incestuous relationship between Democrats and the mainstream media.

Getting Trump has somehow morphed into a cult.

IMHO Trump's chances improve if there's what could be perceived as a cult mentality against him.

Chris Wallace setting himself up as an objective voice of reason before he pronounces the hearings damning for Trump.

mikee म्हणाले...

How it should have been reported: "Chris Wallace, fresh from his roaring success at CNN+, gives his take on the Insurrection Hearings!" Hang around the neck of this man not just that his career was based on nepotism, not skill, but also that he joined the fastest-sinking news show ever conceived by leftist minds.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

A. All those comments indicate how the committee and the Democrats feel about the average American, a group I would not normally lump Chris in with, except he does have the capacity for nonaligned thoughts.
B. Boy they really are angry that we have no appetite for their partisan bullshit.
C. As with the DNC-Media’s penchant for covering up stories, the obviously narrow focus on the least destructive “riot” of the last 30 months to the exclusion of all others reveals the extreme political motives of this group.
D. The related concurrent news that AG Garland refuses to enforce Title 18 protection for the associate justices even after an attempted assassination and Pelosi continues to block a bill with the same protective intent that passed the Senate unanimously a month ago just reinforces how unserious Democrats and their Rino enablers are. Why stop harassment they approve of?

Yeah. The mainstream press is Democrat. Democrat is mainstream press. These people are not objective or fair - they are insider hacks.

It's terrible it's such a bad look! They should try to look better! Why aren't they serious? Looking bad is bad!

As long as all the nice liberal people limit their objections to distaste and indifference to prog propaganda, Dems have little to fear.

Chris Wallace said he left Fox News because he couldn't abide having colleagues who wouldn't admit January 6 was an insurrection.

So if he's skeptical, it might be good to listen to what he has to say (if you are an Insurrection Believer)

Sally327 म्हणाले...

I think he's trying to manage expectations on behalf of the Democrats, to keep the hysteria in check in case the TV show isn't well-received. If he pumps it up and then it lands with a thud, that won't reflect well on the Democrats (or on him but that's incidental).

Joe Smith म्हणाले...

“I think that’s a bad look both for the committee and the mainstream media to seem that they are hand in glove with each other.”

Seem?

I doubt Wallace is a republican at all.

Even if he is, I doubt he has voted for a republican in the past ten years.

Not sure that makes him a republican.

Lurker21 म्हणाले...

He was never a "Good Republican," but for a long time a lot of Fox News viewers thought he might be a "Good Democrat." Objectively (if objectivity is possible) just about anybody would find problems with last night's extravaganza. From what I heard, too many details are ignored and too many unfounded conclusions are leaped to.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Has Chris Wallace been elected to something? Did we all vote and make him a "Important voice, that must be heard"?

I don't care what Chris Wallace thinks about anything. I didn't appoint him to be a news anchor. His not my relative or friend.

I'm more interested in Kathy Griffin. What's her take?

Leland म्हणाले...

Wallace is skeptical that the show will be as historic as Democrat pundits think. I just did a search on the phrase "overnight ratings", and all I could find is stories about whether AEW wrestling is better than WWE wrestling. If last night's show was a hit, we would be hearing about the large number of people that tuned in. Oh, if you searched "tuned in", you find various articles from 2 to 3 days ago from various news organizations skeptical that the show will be as historic as Democrat pundits think.

If a hearing was broadcast on "Prime Time" television and nobody tuned in to watch it, did it actually happen?

I wonder if movie box office receipts from yesterday will be up?

Enigma म्हणाले...

Did he forget about Wallace telling Donald Trump to "Shut Up" during the 2020 debates?

Wallace is a Democrat and the son of Mike Wallace of CBS "60 Minutes." That show has been a Democratic Party policy agenda mouthpiece for many decades.

I guess people grasp at straws when all they have is straws. The "Wallace is a Republican/conservative" is simple nonsense.

Roger Sweeny म्हणाले...

A very anti-Trump friend asked if I'd watched the show last night. I said, "No, I figured it would be an infomercial." Maybe she was just being agreeable, but she agreed with the characterization.

I am attempting to garner some blog sympathy for him/her/xer.

Isn’t this the same idiotic view that Biden and his administration are taking about the massively unpopularity of Dem policies, I.e., that it’s a problem of messaging? I hope they keep thinking this through the midterms and 2024.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Tucker Carlson's show last night was free of any commercials and was about that infomercial the Democrats put on. Very entertaining.

Interesting that the FBI arrested a GOP candidate for Michigan governor. The leading candidate. We become more like a banana republic every day.

Biden was his usual demented self on Jimmy Kimmel. At one point, when Biden lost his thread, Kimmel called for a commercial.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Perhaps Wallace learned something from the bomb that was CNN+, and decided to just go with the obvious thing that the hearings will be a dud, too?

You know how to tell it was going to be a dud? Because if there was anything new and damaging to Trump and the protesters, it would have already been in the news a year ago. The news organizations yesterday were still describing it as the "carnage" of January 6th despite the fact that the only people murdered in the riot were killed by the Capitol Police force. Hell, the protesters didn't even set any buildings on fire. It was the least physically damaging protest of 2020-2021. I grant that Lynne Cheney, Mitt Romney, and Adam Kinzinger were deathly afraid of being raped and murdered by the Buffalo Shaman and his friends who strolled through the building and took a shit on Pelosi's desk, but the fact was such violence never actually was done by any of the protesters.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I said “about exactly” in part because it’s not just about how they look. It’s about what is actually happening. If they are what they look like then it’s good that we got a chance to see.

Wallace has made it clear he's a liberal democrat. Guess he has to wear a big flashing button that says that.

MikeR म्हणाले...

Doesn't sound like he's skeptical about the right things. How about, Why is there a committee in Congress that represents only one point of view? What can anyone expect from hearings that will only show one side of an issue?
And, when are they planning to release all the video footage?

Daniel12 म्हणाले...

There's the accusation that it's all theater. And then there's the theater criticism. But usually that stuff comes AFTER the performance.

What if we quoted people after they saw stuff instead of before?

Leland म्हणाले...

I'll agree WWE is stupid, yet WWF had Hogan, Andre the Giant, The Undertaker, and Randy Savage. But, can't we just agree, television was better when you got to choose between WCW and WWF, rather than all the channels showing Congressional hearings.

Leland म्हणाले...

Drago, I watched Ricky Gervais on Netflix. But I agree with gilbar that I rather watch WCW than either AEW or WWE. I will note that last night, AEW failed to reach 1 million viewers ending up at 939,000 viewers and .34 in the coveted 18-49 demo. I guess that is an L for them, but let's compare to Wallace and CNN+?

Theres a lawyer dude from Minnesota, Nick Rekieta on Youtube. He commented on the "hearing" yesterday, not live, but he'll do it live on Monday, This guy is entertaining and he really goes off on youtube during this. Static Ping म्हणाले...

Wallace was brought onto Fox News to give them their version of Tim Russert, someone who could at least fake being impartial and provide gravitas for their weekend shows and special interviews. He threw that all away when he became overtly partisan while as a debate moderator, an unforgiveable sin. He has no value to Fox News now except as nostalgia; their audience hates him and hates him for good reason.

Unfortunately for Mr. Wallace, in his great wisdom he decided to attach himself to the CNN+ fiasco. Now he needs to find a place in the new "just the news" version of CNN, immediately after he had thrown away the one thing that would make him a perfect fit.

Congratulations! You played yourself!

Trending today: criticism of Wallace from the right, and they find more in Wallace's analysis to object to.

CNN political commentator Chris Wallace said Thursday on his network’s special coverage of the hearing held by the House Select Committee investigating the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 that it was “very powerful, very well produced.”

Wallace said, “Well, we have seen videos before. I remember that the Impeachment House Managers put together a very powerful video before the second Senate trial, but this does not lose its capacity to shock and disgust you and to horrify you. The idea of this mob coming to the symbol as it was called, the citadel of our democracy, breaching the walls and going in attacking, talking about ‘hang Mike Pence,’ hunting for Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House.”

Did he flip-flop? Ordinarily I'd say that if you're hated by both sides of the political spectrum, you may be doing something right, but in Wallace's case, or in David Brooks's the contempt is probably justified.
