"... ministers will recommend next week.
In a blueprint for a sustainable food system, the government will ... pledge to cut the UK’s reliance on seasonal imports of fruit and vegetables by backing new factory greenhouses that can operate all year round.
It will suggest promoting wild venison as a low-carbon substitute for beef and lamb as less productive farmland is rewilded. The strategy was produced in response to a government-commissioned report by Henry Dimbleby, the founder of the Leon restaurant chain, who called last year for a rethink of how the country is fed.... [The recommendation of] prescriptions of fruit and vegetables by GPs [has] been delayed...."
The London Times reports.
Dimbleby... an interesting name. I see "The Dimbleby family is an English family of journalists" (Wikipedia). Henry's great-grandfather was Frederick Jabez George Dimbleby (1876-1943), journalist for the Richmond and Twickenham Times. I wonder what he ate.
Isn't it strange that Henry Dimbleby — a "businessman and cookery writer" — was put in charge of deciding how the whole country should eat?

Insanity all the way down. The Global atmosphere is cooling as real climate scientists attest. The whole mass propaganda warming big lie is totally fraudulent.

i take it, THIS goes under the category of: Politicians are TOO STUPID TO DO MATH?
The rich can hunt and the poor can only poach.

Oh, I wouldn't worry. They won't be eating.
Spirulina. Great stuff. Not technically a plant. Not technically an animal. High in amino acid profile. You can make biofuel with it. You could (in theory) eat nothing but spirulina and survive.
It makes a great additive to foods. I like it in salads and BBQ sauces. Highly recommend.
British recommendations turn into mandates. An the British passivity will accept it, because they believe in government knows best. Oh, they may complain, but will go along with it anyway.
If you talk to Brits at dinner table complaint about the poor food and service, when the waiter comes around and asks how everything is, the response will always be ‘fine!’. I had the temerity to say that the steak was a little over cooked (pro tip, don’t order steak in the UK, they don’t know what they are doing) and it was as if I had stabbed a newborn right on the table.
Dimbleby is a big name in the BBC. Like the US, Britain appears to have some kind of caste society.
In an effort to get ahead of the accelerating absurdity of our world, I'll go ahead and call it now: Soylent Green. Five years, tops.
Eat your heart out, Babylon Bee.
Posted again without comment.
I switched to a meat egg salmon and dairy diet about a month ago.
This is what we grew up with as a species. The people who have moved to this style of diet are clearly healthier than the vast majority of people. Vegetable based diets have shown over and over to just be unhealthy.
We are not healthy eating fruits and vegetables and grains as staples. That is clearly obvious if you just look around. The advent of refrigeration and year round fruit availability and fruit juice in particular is making us fat. The push to force the proles to eat an obviously unhealthy diet is being carried out by evil people.
Great. Let the "ministers" try it first for a couple of years and then tell the rest of the public how they like it.
“Mortification of the flesh is an act by which an individual or group seeks to mortify or deaden their sinful nature . . . “
"who called last year for a rethink of how the country is fed."
And why are they "Rethinking" it? And what is meant by "Rewilding" low productive farm land? Why should good farm land be turned back to nature? Isn't the UK population exploding due to immigration?
Somehow I'll bet Mr. Dimbleby will see to it that his restaurants come out all right.
Dimbleby? Sounds like a Dickens parody.
and hold up little pinkies while eating with utensils!
How about the Government just does government things and leaves people otherwise alone? (Forcing or "nudging" them to live by the preferences of a febrile elite is not a government thing.)
Exactly what problem are our nagging Nannie’s trying to solve now? Oh yea, nothing, just testing how much they can get the mo keys to dance.
Sorry, I won’t play.
"O Brave New World, that has such people in it!"
The dystopian writers of the Mid-20th century are the how-to manuals for 21st century politicians.
"How about the Government just does government things and leaves people otherwise alone?"
That's the problem. They think everything is government stuff.
Faced with a deepening economic and humanitarian crisis, Sri Lanka called off an ill-conceived national experiment in organic agriculture this winter
The result was brutal and swift. Against claims that organic methods can produce comparable yields to conventional farming, domestic rice production fell 20 percent in just the first six months. Sri Lanka, long self-sufficient in rice production, has been forced to import $450 million worth of rice even as domestic prices for this staple of the national diet surged by around 50 percent. The ban also devastated the nation’s tea crop, its primary export and source of foreign exchange.
Food shortages are always the result of Government decisions and actions. Our Current Baby formula shortage is such a great example of the Government taking action that no knowledgeable person would have allowed. A plant shutdown for so long with no plan to replace the production.
You don't remove 30% of production capacity and not realize it will result in shortages.
I can get behind the idea of trading venison for beef. I don’t know what the deer population is like in the UK but here in the US it is way too high. We could solve a lot of problems by declaring open season on them and promoting them as food. I would not get rid of farmland, though. You can’t l survive as an independent nation if you can’t grow your own food. Short sighted to get rid of it.
What does it matter if it is animal meat or fake meat?
The Brits will overcook it and slather it in a disgusting sauce.
They better be careful, the US is in no position to send them boatloads of SPAM this time around.
Who in their right mind stands at the top of a tall building in a large city, looks out over the vast cityscape teeming with hundreds of thousands of people engaged in hundreds of thousands of activities, and thinks to themselves, “Ya, clearly, these folks need me to design a new diet for everyone!”. Drugs, it has to be drugs.
To B12 or not to B12, and energy density, that... those are the questions. At least he includes animal proteins in the diet.
Adopt this on large scale and be surprised at the food shortages to follow.

so how was the second course after that?
Our betters really would prefer it if most of us would just die. Either that or they just haven't thought things through. Probably both.
I've come to the sad conclusion that UK politicians are even stupider than the US variety. I have not decided if they are as evil as ours.
Venison is not halal so that would be a plus. Speaking of the increase of psychosis, it does not appear to be limited to assassins, school shooters and the homeless.
We could call it Soylent Green. At least until Charlton Heston finds out what it really is.
I was wrong about venison not being halal - it's not kosher (cloven foot).
British food was horrible for so long - it has only been in the last 20 years or so that it has gotten decent. It looks like that will just be an anomaly.
Y’all best arm up.
This is the kind of thing that happens once a nation has been disarmed.
“It will suggest promoting wild venison as a low-carbon substitute for beef and lamb as less productive farmland is rewilded.” The wild deer population will be quickly wiped out. Beef cattle provide a whole lot more meat than scrawny deer. The “best and brightest” in the UK who came up with this brilliant idea must be in cahoots with same really “smart” bureaucrats in the Biden administration (led by John Kerry) who want to dump internal combustion engined cars for electric vehicles ASAP without figuring out the electrical generation and grid infrastructure and the charging station infrastructure must be massively upgraded and cost a treasury’s worth of money before this may even begin to look feasible. Plus, what will the tree huggers do once the deer are hunted to the brink of extirpation / extinction that they caused by suggesting people eat venison instead of beef? We realists call this situation “unintended consequences”…
I've eaten my share of venison, prepared in all the ways that people swear by.
Umm, no thanks.
Factory greenhouses heated by Russian gas. OOOkay.

workarond for that = let raptors/falcon hunt game animals ...
Even the Quran deemed prey caught by falcons to be halal, a boon for the majority-Muslim countries that practice the sport. But falconry used strictly for hunting took a back seat in the 15th century with the invention of gunpowder. As a sport, however, it continues to this day.
Dimbleby as cousin to Dumbledore may know some charms to load edibles on the table - but what about potables?
Personally, I would not take advice from a Harry Potter character.
Would enjoy watching a pilot program where every promoter/supporter
of this gross plan has to live that program for oh, say, three years.
Let's see them live on bug burgers and algae poo.
So is the idea to increase wilderness areas where the deer population can thrive, and then go in and shoot them? Bye, Bambi!
It's interesting that in U.S. popular culture, hunting is generally seen as a blue-collar / rural activity. In British popular culture, it's seen as the sport of wealthy aristocrats (including the royal family). Is it possible that this whole "sustainable food" plan is just a way to set up game-hunting theme parks for the upper crust?
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?
"Carbon-neutral greenhouses" are just as useless as "Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no freakin' badges!"
This dietary coercion is just part of the game plan.
Prog ag and climate policy cannot possibly maintain the current standard of living. The foreseeable effect of all their policies is to degrade the quality of life. At some point, it will be clear to the public that it is their actual aim. But will it be too late?
Do be a Dimbleby.
Don't be a ... Dumbledore?
And a most nimble bee was Harry Dimbleby.
I can't wait to hear what PETA thinks about the wild venison harvest!
Deciding how...
A current AskReddit (I know...) thread regarding variations in freedoms between the US and EU / Commonwealth / Japan etc. produced a remark : "What are governments for if not to tell you what to do?"
This remark elicited no pushback except from a very few obvious Americans. The Reddit politically-interested demographic (I know!) has a large majority in favor of "there oughta be a law".
(After my tolerance for that bs is exhausted, I wander over to r/Machinists, a group deeply aware of Stuff, Where It Comes From, and How To Not Die While Making It.)
20 huge food processing plants have been fire bombed in the USA in the past year. And the famine beat goes on. That smells like Malthusians at work. The bio-weapon Pandemics got released out of order. They were supposed to starve us first for two years to weaken up our immune systems. But that had to be done by mandatory rDNA shots and shots and shots….and now small children get the shots. Bill Gates has always had a plan.
"Isn't it strange that Henry Dimbleby — a "businessman and cookery writer" — was put in charge of deciding how the whole country should eat?"
I think it is more strange that there are people who think they should decide what people should eat. Please stay out of my kitchen.
Richard Dimbleby (1913-1965) was the British Edward R. Murrow.
I'm surprised it wasn't suggested that the Brits eat the rich.
The global warming hoax — and it is that — astonishes me with its power to destroy the world. It’s as evil as Marxism. Truly millions will suffer and die due to this vile narrative cooked up by, well … Marxists.

deer have cloven foot.
Venison is the meat of deer, which is a kosher species. Provided that it was slaughtered, salted, and deveined according to Jewish law, it would be kosher. In fact, venison is occasionally found at high-end kosher restaurants. However, odds are that you will not find it in the freezer at your local kosher supermarket.
That diet would be superior to most of the meals I’ve had on prior trips to the UK.
At the Sunday Times, the headline that Mr Johnson and company have given up their rewilding fantasy, slashing its budget from 'up to' 800 million pounds pa to 50 over three.
Senior figures in Whitehall fear the change is part of a wider paring back of Johnson’s net zero goals.
He has his issues but outright stupidity isn't one of them, I think.
I want to read Jeremy Clarkson’s reaction to this in the Times next weekend. Here’s hoping.
Like Fern found out in Hudson Valley, the wealthy want petting zoos.
Their veal will come from somewhere else, and the deplorables can eat bugs.
