I bring you 8 TikTok selections in the hope that you'll say which one(s) you like and why.

1. A song about cooking salmon in your studio apartment.

2. Scary stories for horses.

3. Dolly Parton and Patti LaBelle use their acrylic fingernails for percussion.

4. A freaky optical illusion.

5. A Tasmanian devil yawns.

6. How to live with a boy and still have a cute apartment.

7. Thatched roof skills.

8. Ukrainians before the war and now.

I forgot to tell you I liked the singing cat from a week ago-ish.

gilbar ayon kay ...

6 is good.. Oh course; it WOULD NOT WORK. As Soon as she turns her back; that place will be trashed

Assistant Village Idiot ayon kay ...

The butterflies switch direction at the moment the inhale or exhale stops, not at the initiation of the new respiration aspect. When one is breathing slowly, that can be a second or more difference.

I have no explanation for any of it.

Lem Vibe Bandit ayon kay ...

Dolly and Patti. Hands down.

Meade ayon kay ...

Totally agree, Lem.

Mary Beth ayon kay ...

I think I like the Dolly and Patti one the best, but the song about salmon was the one where there was the biggest difference between how much I expected to like it and how much I did like it.

Will Cate ayon kay ...

Those are all notable in one way or another, but Dolly & Patti are the best of this bunch (the vintage factor). Close runner-up: Everything Smells Like Salmon.

Sebastian ayon kay ...

Dolly and Patti are great, of course, but "How to live with a boy and still have a cute apartment" is more useful as it hints, not so subtly, at a world of boys and girls, in which boys differ from girls, girls care about the cuteness of apartments, and yet also somehow want to live with boys. It's downright subversive.

MadisonMan ayon kay ...

That is not a cute apartment. That is a cluttered apartment.

My choice is the Dolly and Patti one but only because I read this essay at Plough earlier; otherwise, I'd have gone with the thatching one, because that is a real, useful skill.

Flat Tire ayon kay ...

Dolly and Patti, by far. The horse one was funny just because I've spent so much time working with ditzy horses and their even ditzier owners.

David Begley ayon kay ...

Ukraine. It shows the total commitment of the average citizen to victory.

I hate fake fingernails. Gross.

Susan in Seattle ayon kay ...

I really like/admire Dolly and Patti but the thatching one, that's my favorite. And no matter how big your space is, if you cook salmon in it, it'll smell.

PJ ayon kay ...

Dolly and Patti because there is nobody as adorable as Dolly Parton; but those butterflies, how do they know?

Mark ayon kay ...

I've never been tempted to install TikTok until watching the salmon song. 🤣

thank you for link to beautiful writing about beautiful person!

Stephen St. Onge ayon kay ...

I liked one through four.  They were all funny.

Emilie ayon kay ...

All worth watching, but I have to confess that anything that features Dolly Parton laughing is irresistible to me. My life would have been completely different if I could giggle and laugh like that. The Tasmanian devil is the video that actually made me laugh out loud, though.

Curious George ayon kay ...

Thatching...amazing craftmanship

JustSomeOldDude ayon kay ...

I pretty much just don't like Tik Tok at all. Especially ones with that weird eltro voice over. But I watched them all and didn't like any enough to watch again or even to the end.

I was hopeful, but disappointed in Thatch Roof Skills, saddened by Ukraine and lacked the patience for Butterflies. The others were just highly forgettable.

lonejustice ayon kay ...

That's why I only cook salmon OUTSIDE, on a charcoal grill, with hickory chips.
That smells great!

farmgirl ayon kay ...

Marc- thank you for that!! The entire time I read it- I thought it was written by a man lol.
Dolly truly is transcendent<3

I like watching them when you put them there, Althouse. I wouldn’t seek them out.

Nancy ayon kay ...

Thank you dear Ann! I loved almost all of them. Could do without the Tasmanian devil and the horse stories. The salmon guy and the thatcher are amazingly talented. What a breadth of humanity! And Dolly and Patti are beyond adorable.

Nancy ayon kay ...

Didn't have the patience for the butterflies.

Tank ayon kay ...

Dolly & Patti because they are so obviously having a great time.

Craig Howard ayon kay ...

“Cooking salmon” is a hoot.

I love watching these because my FYP tends to go stagnant.

BTW, Tik Tok asked me for my birth date last week. I told the truth, but I can’t imagine how they will tailor my feed to reflect that. I really don’t want an FYP full of old people. I watch TikTok to escape them (us).

“ I pretty much just don't like Tik Tok at all. Especially ones with that weird eltro voice over.…”

Yes, I loathe that voice. I scroll past that the instant I hear it.
