Almost certainly some redbacked salamanders, and if you're lucky some tiger or blue-spotted. It was established in the late 19th C during the Progressive Era. The country had undergone unprecedented immigration from regions that had formerly exported almost nobody at all to the New World.

Southern and Eastern Europeans different in religion from earlier immigrants and from each other, who had to be assimilated to American (WASP, then) ways in the most efficient way, in masse.

That's not a stupid question. The glaciers killed off worms, and since worms don't move very fast, for a long time, there were no worms in northern forests. This meant that fallen leaves weren't reduced to mulch and northern forests had a different type of forest floor. Over time, though, people have brought worms to northern forests, most notably by fishers. Still, they don't spread very fast so there are still worm-free forests.; 4/14/22, 9:16 PM
