I gave up on Emily in Paris after a few episodes. I don't know why people interested in transitioning take these dangerous hormone shots when just watching Emily can safely cause vast amounts of estrogen to be drilled through every pore and orifice in your body....Instead of Emily, I've been watching Valhalla and the first season of The Last Kingdom. They serve somewhat for a testosterone boost. Lots of hairy men cleave each other with axes. Their beards and haircuts show the attention of skilled hair stylists, but they're definitely hairy. Some of the costumes look like they might be accurate, but I didn't know the Vikings traveled with dry cleaners and washing machines....Beyond this, there's a disturbing undercurrent of political correctness in both series. Some of the women are Viking warriors. They go on raids with the men. There's one middle aged woman of African descent who's a viking warrior queen. The women are mostly sex positive. Chastity is not one of their ideals, but they keep their clothes on during the love scenes. The men are far more likely to appear topless than the women. The era of gratuitous nudity has indeed passed....The women are presented as we understand women today and by today I mean in the last five minutes and by women I mean militant feminists. Likewise with the clergy. None of them are presented as eager scholars and just a token few are shown as truly devout and godly in their faith. The Churchmen are scam artists looking to increase their own share of wealth and power. The medieval church as the forerunner of televangelists. The only miracle performed was done by a shaman pagan...Hollywood pieties. By these signs you conquer

I LIKED IT! Emily in Paris perfectly described Why it Is, that our 'civilization' is Sh*t; and How the BEST THING that could happen, would be a combination of Asteroid strike and Yellowstone Super Volcano
A society that can create Emily in Paris has no business existing, and should go the way of the dinosaurs This is something, that We All NEED TO KNOW
I was thinking recently about how much world-view determines ones position on such things as the nature of what is human in light of all the recent posts our hostess has highlighted. For example, if your base view is that man is created in the image of a perfect being, then your approach to what it means to be a man and a woman might be based on a specific ideal that you strive to model. On the other hand, if you think man is the highest form of life, you might instead celebrate any and all variations as expanding the and enriching the concept of what it means to be human. Obviously this is a simplistic dichotomy that might need nuance, but it illustrates a simple fact. People tending toward one camp will almost never be able to compromise with people tending toward the other camp. Either position would be in direct opposition to the core value of the other with endless bytes spilled toward invective and ridicule.
that man is created in the image of a perfect being
Or in principles of morality, its relativistic sibling "ethics", its politically congruent cousing "law", and Nature that precede normalization, tolerance, and rejection. For example, normalization or promotion of behaviors that have a redeeming value to society and humanity. Rejection of wicked solutions (e.g. elective abortion) that deny dignity, agency, and fitness. Tolerance of everything else that can be reasonable tolerated through a process of reconciliation (e.g. self-defense).
A couple of our favorite products have disappeared from store shelves and I wondered why. It appears the FDA has taken a more aggressive approach to trace amounts of components (or contaminants). It's already recommended stopping the use of antibacterial soaps: A Bunch Of Antibacterial Soaps Are Now Banned (BuzzFeed).
A&D Zinc ointment is also off the shelves, at least for a while, due to some contaminant. I had a web page that said which one, but the internet appears to have eaten it.
I love when Progressive eat their own. This was bound to happen, and it is delightful to see.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10726659/Arizona-education-leaders-blasted-mistaking-black-DJ-fundraiser-white-man-BLACKFACE.html?utm_source=pocket_mylist
Isn't Justice in America GREAT??? Shooting a bunch of random people while black gets you less time in prison than trespassing in the Capitol building that a Capitol police officer let you into.
And last but not least...the TRUTH that the left has hidden for the last 7 years...https://nypost.com/2022/04/17/the-verdict-is-in-the-trump-slandering-is-a-pack-of-lies/
Article about Leonard Cohen in the Sinai during the 1973 war in WAPO (free access for freeloading proles may be possible through aldaily.com). I don't know what to make of the war or Cohen's supposed artistic resurrection because of his time playing for the Israeli troops there, but the part about Cohen's feeling trapped by couplehood and parenthood before the war goes along with my earlier post about midcentury male artists so often being jerks. The article and the book, though, may be a good companion piece to the documentary about Cohen on the island of Hydra which seemed to me to have no real point, probably because I don't know his music very well.
Alex Jones just slammed InfoWars into bankruptcy to dodge payment of multiple lawsuits. So does this mean that the Sandy Hook parents didn't name Jones in their legal filings?
Assets claimed in the bankruptcy are under $50,000 while liabilities could be as high as $10 million. $50,000 is pocket change for Alex.
Jordan Peterson, God and Christianity w/Word on Fire. A podcast w/2 very well educated Ivy leaguer philosophy dudes discussing some awesomely deep things. I thought the person seeking to know more about religion yesterday on one of the threads would appreciate a listen. It’s so cool to hear these conversations!!! Brilliant, thoughtful, curious men listening and speaking in turn. It’s a free education!!!
It made me think of (you) b/c the Caesar/God comparison is brought up by Peterson and it so fits your thought on it. So- I hope you give it a go… Peace be w/you.

Me too, Prof. What a wonderful blog. Thanks.
And thanks to William for the cultural updates. Seriously, you're watching stuff so I don't have to . . . and cringe. Or yell at the screen.
OTOH, how true to history were Handel's heroines?
(OTOOH, with Handel you get the tunes.)

Of course, if the Bernie Sanders contingent is successful in totally co-opting the (D) party, we could see this:

At the self-checkout at WalMart, you need cashier approval to buy Redi-Whip whipped cream. Why I ask? Kids are doing nefarious things with it.

It's Massachusetts Christmas today. The internet informs me that Wisconsin public school children also have the day off. For real?
