The loving husband and daughter.

So Serious Question
is the daughter looking on at her mom, thinking her parent's marriage..
is almost always oppressive and must be either reclaimed or disavowed."???

is the daughter thinking..
Especially in the sexual realm, anything that could be viewed as traditional or average is passé
???

OR, is she thinking..
GLAD MY parents are married and in love; NOT like my friends parents who don't even know each other!

Humperdink said...

The twitter responses repeatedly refer to her daughter as she. How do they know?

The "I'm not a biologist" response will be a millstone around the necks of the commie-pinko left for quite some time. The stupid party should use this in every campaign ad in the foreseeable future.

People (all people) want that special someone, who will love and care for them;
who will be With them, always.

Of course, Most people don't get that; they find out that their husband thinks he's a woman,
or that their wife is sleeping with her students
But that doesn't change the fact that 'normal' is the ideal

RBE said...

Oh yes, the loving family picture "card" gets played or is it a biological unit of 3. I'm cynical but it's a sweet picture and played to my emotions.

Eleanor said...

It's good to have a husband or a daughter who is proud of you, but it's a low bar for qualification for a seat on the Supreme Court. Nice family photo, but irrelevant.

I have this vague recollection in the John Robert's confirmation hearing , the outfits of his little children were mocked because they were dressed in their Sunday best. There was some snarky comment in the Washington Post about them looking like Easter eggs or something. The rules are always different when it's anything associated with a Republican.

Kevin said...

The twitter responses repeatedly refer to her daughter as she. How do they know?

It’s just as relevant how they know the husband is not a woman.

All future mentions of gender must cite the contributing biologist.

Even in social settings.

David Begley said...

Will the daughter get ribbed about her mom not knowing what a woman is?

I wonder if everyone remembers Alito's wife being brought to tears because of the vicious attacks Kennedy and other Democrats made on her husband.

tim maguire said...

The daughter is looking on lovingly. I question the perception and/or honesty of anyone who describes the weird look on the husband’s face as loving.

And if Jackson were a Republican appointee, the daughter’s look would be described as creepily sexual and the police should be keeping an eye on Jackson for her daughter’s protection. My imagination is not wild enough to make a decent guess at what Maureen Dowd would do with the husband.

Jersey Fled said...

Is it OK to call her daughter her daughter?

I get so confused these days.

Humperdink said...

It’s been reported the Biden administration has developed plans to create the cabinet position of Secretary of Biology to sort out these thorny gender issues.

exhelodrvr1 said...

Isn't her husband culturally appropriating her?

J Severs said...

Define 'deeply'.

Kate said...

My memory of the Alito confirmation hearing is strong. (Is it accurate? I don't know.) The questioning was hard and skewed, and at some point his wife broke down crying and left the room. She was a plain, regular wife, and her reaction made the Senators look like bullies. After that, the questioning eased and Alito was confirmed.

A genuine moment is worth a lot.

The Dems and their media slaves are getting worried. Otherwise, why roll out the family? That's what losers do when they've run out of arguments.

Her husband looks deep in thought, still trying to figure out what a woman is ...

tommyesq said...

Just like the SF Chronicle did when ACB was the nominee. They posted a nice, warm family picture of ACB and her family too, right?

Christopher B said...

I don't remember the Alito hearings but if the description of his wife's reaction is accurate, the serene look of Jackson's husband and daughter sure contrasts with attempts to make the GOP questioning sound unhinged.

I've got hundreds of photos like that.

One of my Dad at the Chicago Stockyards, overlooking his pen of steers that topped the market. To quote Brandon "that's a big f***ing deal".
All things being relative, arguably a bigger accomplishment. An Iowa dirt farmer topping out Chicago, vs, a Judge rising to SCOTUS. One is a beauty pageant, the other is skill and hard work.

I thought there was a “deeply” tag already, given Althouse’s known antipathy to that adverb, but perhaps it is reserved for funereal applications.

Temujin said...

The level of gushing over this woman (if I can clearly identify her as such) is beyond my understanding. I'm obviously fine and good with her husband and daughter being captured in a moment of pride for her. Something we'd all feel for someone close to us. But the level of gushing coming from Democrats in the media, which is to say everybody in the media with the exception of Tucker Carlson, is ridiculous.

I'm still pumping Dramamine after watching Cory Booker's performance over the last couple of days. I'm wondering, was this photo taken as Cory Booker was showing his ebullience?

RideSpaceMountain said...

Bedwench alert! Bedwench alert! Kamala? Dorsey's gf? DeNiro's wife? And now a SCOTUS nominee?

One's an outlier. Two's suspicious. Three's a trend. Fiercely heterosexual black men like Cory Booker just can't catch a break!

I have also seen that photo everywhere. And I have to wonder: So? A daughter looks thus at her Mom? And....?
As Eleanor said, having a kid look thus at you is hardly an endorsement for the Court.

The young woman is lovely and a lot better looking than her parents.

The photo is meant to show that KBJ is not a breeder like ACB with her scads of children. She is a responsible American with one child, not a brood of conservative Catholics.

The daughter looks admiring, proud of her mom in this moment, and the dad just seems bemused. Lovingly can be there as well I suppose. But who cares, really, except to wonder: is this nuclear family the result of radical or reflexive monogamy? Assuming a fact not in evidence, I know, but for purpose of analysis, assume the parental figure are faithful to each other. Is this result, a unit designated as a family, one that gazes lovingly at each other in a public form, is that to be desired as novel? Or rejected as normal.

Roger Sweeny said...

I didn't know her husband is white. But I did know that Kamala Harris' husband is also. This is going to sound snarky but I wonder if black men are "underrepresented" as spouses of successful black (and near black) women. Is anyone calling for some sort of affirmative action?

Easy, stomach--don't turn over.

It is so easy to sentimentalize parents and children in public display--look at some of those old pictures of Joe and Hunter.

I am glad she has a beautiful daughter. Note the color-coding of the family uniform--blue jackets, lavender dress and necktie. Yup. They are all together. Husband doesn't look doting--he's just a guy who could be ordering lunch at Olive Garden.

So, what do our CRT/white fragility enthusiasts think about the daughter's 50% fragility quotient? What did they think about BHO's?

This is an affirmative action appointment. The only purpose of the hearings is for Republicans to demonstrate that Jackson will be another mindless mouthpiece for progressive idioc-er, ideology. That is working out.

Democrats demonstrate their intellectual deficiency by comparing this to rape allegations against Kavanaugh and religious slurs directed at Barrett.

I’m a pro-Trump right-winger and I say confirm her. I’ve listened to none of her testimony and only read a bit about her, but I want her confirmed because she seems like a nice person based on photos. This is my new metric. It’s quick. It’s intuitive, and I’m done wasting brain neurons on political tribalism. You can judge books by their covers and people by their looks. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

In my opinion, the panelists missed a very good opportunity to refute Brown Jackson's sarcastic answer 'I'm not a biologist'. The immediate follow-up should have been, 'but this is not strictly a Biology question, is it? What is your answer, judge?'. They should have anticipated an evasive answer. I think such a riposte would have put paid to the indulgences that wokeism has been tacitly granted to become pervasive in our culture. It's toxic; not to confront it, is to encourage it.

I haven't read the other comments, so I doubt I'm the first to ask, did the media report glowingly about Kavanaugh's or Barrett's families?

Instead, it was implied that Kavanaugh was a predator, and Barrett was a religious nut. No societal breakthroughs with those two.

A headline I don't recall: "Barrett's nomination a victory for adoptive mothers."

One husband, one wife, and from their union was conceived a daughter, each of whom follow societal norms that normalize a favorable juxtaposition of the sexes and individuals. That said, their functional union and behavior may not make her nomination, but a dysfunctional union and behavior would surely break it. The remainder is, hopefully, a difference in opinion to resolving reconciliation among the several hundred million individuals without a universe unto ourselves, existing on a plain with finitely available and accessible resource.

Correct, except it is far-left. The left is authoritarian, the right is libertarian, the far-left is totalitarian, the far-right is anarchist, the left-right nexus is leftist. That said, diversity (i.e. color judgment, class-based bigotry) is dogma of the Pro-Choice "ethical" religion subscribed to be the Progressive Cult, Corporation, Clinic, etc. breeds adversity. #HateLovesAbortion

Jackson Brown said she didn't know anything about the VMI case. She must be lying.

The VMI case is one of the landmarks of the law on sex discrimination. The VMI case was argued in January 1996 and decided in June 1996. She graduated from Harvard Law School in 1996. The idea that she knows nothing about the case (she said this right before she said she wasn't able to provide a definition of woman) is preposterous. She will be a political hack, carrying water for the Democratic left.

I would vote against her for insulting the intelligence of the senators and the American people.

She looks good natured and benign and her family looks to be sane and supportive, unlike Corey Booker who went all Toobin on her. She's about as much as you can hope for. I think Republicans should vote for her. Maybe it will diffuse some of the acrimony that surrounds these nominations.
....The Supreme Court will now, by my count, have four women on it, but only ACB is conservative. She younger, thinner, and better looking than the other justices. I do hope they don't go all mean girls on her and make her eat at a separate table during lunch. If she hangs out too much with Kavanaugh or Thomas, their tongues will start to wag. Alito looks safe and not a gossip magnet. She should probably hang out with him during lunch. I'm sure he would behave like a gentleman and not make any moves on her.

Has to be.

Back in the Clinton administration, only 3 Republican Senators voted *against* RGB and 1 Democrat did not vote. 9 Republicans voted *against* Breyer with 3 Republicans and 1 Democrat not voting.

W's nominees
22 Democrats voted for Roberts.
4 Democrats voted for Alito.

Obama's nominees
9(!) Republicans voted to confirm Sotomayor.
5 Republicans voted to confirm Kagan.

Trump's nominees
3 Democrats voted to confirm Gorsuch.
No Democrat voted for either Kavanaugh or Barrett.

We remember the dems finding Barrett's family "creepy" and Kavanaugh's merely damnable because they supported such a flagrant womanizing rapist.

So this "oh so touching loving squeezing family" tableau for the heartstrings is only a reminder of their despicable hatred for anything against their hold on power.

Either that, or it's the media doing the equivalent of gawking and cooing at zoo animals for acting like humans. The press is pretty reliably guilty of that, particularly as regards Black families being normal humans, so I suggest there's no shortage of "institutional racism", i.e., the soft bigotry of low expectations, in this sort of coverage, too.
