There’s one more way in which characterizing lockdowns and other mandates as “erring on the side of caution” plays a psychological trick: Since the phrase is embedded with the notion of good intentions, it conditions citizens to be forgiving of the bureaucrats and politicians who imposed them.

Note, however, that in most everyday usage of “erring on the side of caution,” the choice to “err” is made voluntarily by individuals who bear the consequences of their own decisions—or by others, like an airplane pilot or a surgeon, to whom we’ve voluntarily and unmistakably granted control of our well-being.

The grim impacts of lockdowns and other mandates, however, were coercively imposed on society, to say nothing of the fact that so many of the edicts represented gross usurpations of power and violations of human rights.

On top of all that, the edicts were reinforced by Orwellian censorship and ostracism leveled at those who dared raise questions that have now proven valid.

Well, Russia has now used illegal weapons against civilian populations, is threatening to use chemical and maybe biological weapons, has activated its nuclear forces, deployed nuclear weapons in previous nuclear-free Belarus, threatened to destroy Sweden and Finland, threatened destruction for anyone supplying weapons to Ukraine, threatened to drop the International Space Station on the U.S. or Europe, intentionally bombed sites with radioactive materials, started massing forces on the Poland border, threatened to use dirty bombs...

Anyone care yet?

Nice blues. I read Norweigian Wood and Drive My Car, then went to the movie (fabulous), and I am generally oriented toward blue colors in art lately. I love the Japenese Woodblock prints. They have the best blues.

On Sunday, on my way to Central Park, I passed by the Russian Consulate. There was a crowd there. Not big, maybe a few hundred people....By happenstance, I was wearing a blue sweatshirt with a yellow turtleneck. These are the colors of Ukraine, so I figured I'd bow to fate and join the demonstration. The crowd was chanting something in Ukrainian. I don't know if was some kind of cognate, but the chant turned into "I stand with Ukraine". I repeated the chant and, like others in the crowd, I raised a clenched fist. Chanting and raising a clenched fist isn't really my thing, but a nice woman gave me a sympathetic smile, and I repeated the chant with a bit more conviction. Then I left the demonstration and continued on my way to my workout in Central Park....So let it be written, that I didn't just sit around and type harsh words about Putin on the internet but that I actually joined a demonstration against Russian imperialism. By such small gestures does the world become a better place.

None of us are gonna do an infinite amount of good in this world, so we might as well work on doing a finite amount. If you have a Russian friend who is feeling like HATE and HATRED are being rained down on her head, which they are, at least on American media, thanks to the passion the mostly evil American media has for targeting people with hatred, give her a call, tell her you care and that you HATE HATRED.

The Ukrainians looked indistinguishable from any similar number of Americans. They look like us It must be very hard to have close relatives in such a predicament in such a far away place. I really am sympathetic to their plight.....I'm not unsympathetic to the Afghans who are also going through some hard times, and I suppose we have more to do with their burdens than we have to do with what's going on in the Ukraine. Even so, if I saw a group of Afghans chanting something, I'd cross the street and keep my distance.

"So, according to Russian official source, Russia tried to accelerate negotiotions asap *NEXT DAY* after the invasion. Meanwhile Ukrainians decided to postpone them. Because it wasn't planned as a war. It was planned as a Special Operation, built on a psyop. Which didn't work out"

According to Dictator Hochul the dreaded covid continues to be dangerous today and tomorrow, but ceases to be dangerous statewide on Tuesday. Apparently the dreaded covid is on a timer that only she and other dictators around the USA know of. Apparently this biological timer that only the dictators are aware of will not run out until March 7 in NYC according to Petit Dictator Eric Adams.

The dreaded covid suddenly ceased to be dangerous in the capitol building. Meantime children in various DEMOCRAT dictatorial jurisdictions continue being forced to mask. Average age of schoolchildren- between 5 and 18, so somewhere around 11. Death rate in that age range from the dreaded covid essentially zero. "The average age of Members of the House at the beginning of the 116th Congress was 57.6 years; of Senators, 62.9 years." Death rate from covid in that age rang considerably higher. But they're now safe running around maskless. Of course, if congresscritters get covid, they actually receive treatment, including according to many reports, ...IVERMECTIN!...., not available to commoners, because it's horse medicine.

If at this point you believe mask wearing was ever about health and not about control- from the very beginning- you're deluded.

Howard said it a year ago, that pretending to analyze events when we have no idea of the facts, and never will, is a pastime for chumps. Who is shelling whom? I have zero idea, and it's not in the interests of some the people who do know to let us in on the truth. Claims and counter claims, we may as well just believe what our rulers say and leave it at that.

Clarification: ivermectin was originally developed as an antiparasitic for veterinary applications, but later it was found to be effective for use on humans. Its developers were awarded a Nobel Prize in 2015. Despite what wikipedia says, there are studies" showing that it reduces COVID-19 mortality if administered soon after onset of symptoms. Likewise there are studies on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine, which was all but outlawed for use against COVID because its effectiveness was "unproven." This, despite the fact that we were up against a novel coronavirus strain for which no treatment was proven to be effective.

"If at this point you believe mask wearing was ever about health and not about control- from the very beginning- you're deluded."

Agreed. The same applies to lockdowns, travel restrictions, and vaccine mandates.

Stephen Cooper's post above reminded me of something that happened more than 20 years ago right after 9-11.

We had a Board meeting at church and our pastor prayed for those killed and injured and their families. But then he immediately turned to his concerns for Muslims who he said were being widely persecuted in the U.S., in fact, even in our own community.

He told us of a Muslim family right here in our neighborhood whose house was fire bombed the prior night in an act of hate and vengeance.

Except that it wasn't a Muslim family but a group of young male Mexican migrant workers. And it wasn't a fire bomb but a propane grill that flared up and scorched the side of the house.

Bless his heart.

Wordle potential spoiler for 3-1

I initially called foul on Tuesday's word. If I hadn't (re)watched Big Bang Theory over the years, the word might not have even come to mind.
It is fair to say the word might be considered obscure to many American English speakers. I can't say I've ever spoken it or heard it spoke(?) IRL. One of the reasons to look forward to the daily wordle is the chance of learning a new 5 letter word. This isn't exactly what I had in mind.
Using a different browser, after some reference, I checked to see if other similarly obscure words are on the list. Sure enough, "kurus" and "aurar" are acceptable as guesses, and I presume that also means they are potential winning words (even if not in my browser's spell check dictionary).
I rescind my exclamation of foul and now realize that my concept of learning a new word should be more inclusive and international in nature.

What's this "we," in reference to winning? "We," as in the U.S., have had nothing to do with the defense of Ukraine. By choice. "We" will have nothing to do with prevailing over Russia.

NATO AWACS to provide control to 28 Polish MIGs handed over to them by NATO, 100 US advisers to 'train' them on NATO weapons, massive sanctions. It's a fiction to imagine that we aren't at war with Russia this very moment.

Even that 12% effectiveness is likely a lie. Were all the children who unnecessarily received the vaccine first tested for covid antibodies to see if they previously had contracted it? Wouldn't be surprised if the 12% effectiveness number comes from them. The "vaccine" still being administered was designed to produce one part of the dreaded covid virus- the spike protein. It doesn't introduce the spike protein, a known pathogen into your body, it makes your body make the spike protein. Which doesn't exist in that form on the omicron variant. From every piece of information available, the original spike protein is now virtually extinct in the wild. So injecting it into children, in any quantity, should be a crime. Literally, not figuratively. And about injecting more- all medicines are (or should be) administered in weight adjusted doses. Many aren't anymore, with just a few standard sizes, but a child who masses 1/3 my weight shouldn't receive a vaccine dose designed for my weight. A vaccine I haven't taken.

MadTownGuy saw my sarcasm and clarified it for those that didn't get it. But the I-MASK+ Protocol developed by the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance has dosages for both Vitamin D and ivermectin calculated by body weight, in handy charts.
