"In a climactic moment to end the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics, China chose two athletes — including one it said was of Uyghur heritage — to deliver the flame to the Olympic cauldron..."

"... and officially start the Games. The moment was tinged with layers of symbolism — a man and a woman working together, a nod to China’s Olympic history — but it was the choice of Dinigeer Yilamujiang, a cross-country skier who the Chinese said has Uyghur roots, that confronted head-on one of the biggest criticisms of the country’s role as host."

The NYT reports.

American government propaganda organ repeats propaganda from a Chinese propaganda organ.

The perfect example of fake news, delivered by the enemies of the people.

How much do you want to bet they put a gun to his head to force him to do it. Propaganda to cover up the genocide, ethnic cleansing and reeducation. NOT a good look to celebrate it like it was a wonderful thing...he was doing it to rub it in our faces.

The Singing Little Girls With Candles was so unique, never been done before.

So was the old bag Speaker of Teh House warning American citizens to not criticize Communist China while our athletes are over there, because it would anger the ChiComs and they would be so mean to us.

Ah yes, the fish wrap is again carrying water for the communists. Eyeroll....

You'd think the genocide China unleashed on the world from a Fauci funded lab in Wuhan would be a bigger story. Or any story. Or even a rumor whispered in a back room.

But no.

Welp.

That was really stupid.

Biden can't stay silent on that and survive.

I watched the Olympics opening. It was very impressive. I don't like praising communists, but they know how to put on a show. The most ironic part was when someone sang John Lennon's "Imagine"! Tell that to China: "Imagine there's no country."

Imagine there's no gulag.

And NBC was there to shill for it all. So much pride they must have for their new Motherland.

Hello NBC? This is the 20th century calling. We just wanted to follow up with you to see if you learned anything from any of the lessons we offered up to you? What lessons? Oh my…

Dave Begley said...

I will not watch a minute of these Olympics and I urge others to do likewise. I hope NBC loses a fortune.

Bob Boyd said...

Smart move. Not only will this satisfy the Biden Administration and the NYT that everything is both hunky and dory in Western China, they'll be able to charge extra for the guy's organs now.

wendybar said...

I'm with you Dave Begley. I refuse to bow down to China also. I also hope NBC loses a fortune. They are Commie deniers. Especially Savannah gushing "The Uyghur co-lighting the Olympic flame, chosen by Xi Jinping, “an in-your-face response to those Western nations, including the U.S., who have called this Chinese treatment of that group genocide and diplomatically boycotted these games.”

The NYT has been as the Dems say on the “wrong side of history” every time when it comes to totalitarian governments. They loved Hitler before they hated him. They loved Stalin and still do.

It will be.

The Biden Regime and the Xi regime are tied at the hip now.

If it's in the New York Times, you can bet it's what the CIA wants you to think.

"All the stuff the intelligence agencies want you to think"

Goes right with "Democracy dies in darkness," it's not just our credo, it's our plan!

It's hard to resist women's curling, BTW. That Italian curler is a real dish... but nothing else! I swear!

Lennon on Imagine as essentially the Communist Manifesto...

"Despite the concept of unity that Lennon touched on with David Sheff, the song was also inspired by the communist movement. Lennon later confirmed that the similarities between his ideals set out in the song and Communism were indeed deliberate: “‘Imagine’, which says: ‘Imagine that there was no more religion, no more country, no more politics,’ is virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I’m not particularly a Communist and I do not belong to any movement.”

Deevs said...

If China had really wanted to ease the world's collective mind, they should have just let the Uyghurs out of the camps. I guess this is just as good.

Hmm. A totalitarian regime using the Olympics as a propaganda piece. I've seen this one before I think.

It won't take much effort for me to boycott something I've been boycotting for quite some time. The Jamaican bobsledders were the last thing I enjoyed watching.

MountainMan said...

The last time I watched the Olympics was in 2012, I think. The 100km bike race. And I only watched it because I enjoy biking and love the English countryside. I pretty much quit watching in 1996 when NBC first started broadcasting it, replacing ABC. I think they do a horrible job, it is just difficult to watch. For me Jim McKay was the voice of the Olympics and he will never be replaced. He was, for me, the greatest sports broadcaster of all time. And when forced into a very difficult and unexpected series of events at Munich in 1972 he demonstrated that he was not only a great sportscaster but just a damn fine reporter as well.

A pedophile-run media group shills for an evil dictatorship. That is, the regime in the USA.

I don't particularly like the CCP, but people running a prosperous and homogenous country with good public order are quite likely to defeat a country run by sex deviants and sociopaths.

Barry Dauphin said...

So the CCP is destroying the Uyghurs on a mass scale and they have the guy bring in a flame?

The Nazis had "Kapos" in the concentration camps. These were prisoners who were bribed or willing to assist in controlling other prisoners. They sometimes were given more food or longer lives than those around them.

I wonder...

I can't boycott cause I don't watch it anyway.

tim in vermont: "I see Putin is going over Biden's head and meeting with Xi directly."

Putin is also going over Biden's Earpiece's head and meeting directly with the Germans and French as well as the UK.....all of whom did not allow the US to sit in on the meetings.

And why would they? Would you let Biden's Earpiece anywhere near a strategic relationship like that?

I"ll watch the figure skating and maybe the Ice hockey. US Networks ABC-NBC-CBS coverage of the Olympics is horrible. I haven't watched them for years. Of course, they try to block you from watching CBC or BBC coverage, by various means. But you can work around it.

After 1992, I got so tired of Bryant fucking Gumble or Bob Costas, I bailed. As for Boycotts, they don't work.

I can’t get excited about China and it’s dictatorship.  Yeah, they’re evil thugs.  So what?  “Evil thugs ruling the country” describes most of human history.

Does anyone intend to DO anything about Chinese oppression?  Aside from wagging fingers, I mean?  No, didn’t think so.

And when it comes to the Uyghurs, I remember they are mostly Muslims.  It’s rather unlikely they are the saints many people try to make them out to be.

Helene Mayer is an earlier example of an Olympic athlete who represented a repressive regime. A German Jew she had left Germany when the Nazis came to power and moved to the States. She returned to Germany in 1936 (she later claimed she was pressured to do so) and win silver in Woman’s Foil, giving the Nazi salute on the podium. After the games she returned to the US for the rest of her life. A tragic figure.
