L*yft saga update. I have been reactivated, but not before they made me drive to the hub a second time to figure out why they hadn't. Yesterday, I got the negative results L*yft wanted before reinstating me. I promptly emailed it to them. And they just sat on it. At the hub, I told the guy attending me, that it was not right to punish somebody because they got sick. He apologized and told me it was out of his hand, that a health and safety committee had to look at it and decide. I figured the worse, of course. In my attempt to "do the right thing" I self-reported and I ended up screwing myself. When I could have just quarantine and go back to driving after and nobody would have been the wiser. But what if they check? I kept telling myself. They checked Djokovic and look what happened to him.

Long story short. I got an email about 3 hours ago saying I was reactivated.

Maybe there's something about University we don't understand.......

University seems to be kind-of a priesthood. Didn't the Catholic church suffer the same.......Maybe we should NEVER trust such organizations.......

This is Why, it is SO IMPORTANT, that Everyone Mask and Vaccinate and Boost (and Boost)
Since NONE of those things have Any influence on the virus; it is IMPERATIVE that you comply.
If people Don't comply, then people will see the uselessness of these things

Lem- yay!
It pays to be honest… if not now- it will later.

Our kids gave us a night’s stay at a local hotel- albeit on a ski resort mountain. They are paying(&helping out) for 2chores off. My husbands last chore off was a yr ago- when he had a heart attack and got a stent… that was scary.

Driving up here at night, the mountain trails lit and the groomer out- I said: “I’ve never seen the mountain this close in the dark” and he said: “me neither “ lol. Grew up in its shadow- never this close at night. It’s beautiful, all covered in snow.

Ate at the restaurant- made the unknown mistake answering a text from my daughter& saying where- after we ate the waiter told us our daughter had called and taken care of it. 20$ hamburgers!!! W/fries, but hell!! And 15$ drinks!! Rugged, but hell!!

I cried. Not a lot, but I tear when angry or sad… or happy.

Time off is quite a gift.

I assume this will be the thread where everyone piles on Biden’s press conference.

I don’t like the guy and I sure don’t trust him, his team or his policies. However, I feel guilty watching him in action. It’s starting to feel like visiting my mother in law’s Alzheimer’s facility just to watch and openly laugh at the residents as they try to function and maintain some personal dignity.

I don’t believe they ask anybody to self-report, what they do ask is you abstain, if positive, from rides and observe all the CDC guidelines. I self reported out of fear, but they didn’t asked me to. Of course once I self reported, they put me through the ringer not knowing if was going to be allowed back. It’s a tough one.

My sister told me, why don’t you just go back with Uber? I got a resentment with Uber. It’s going to take a lot for me to go back with them. I kind of got a resentment with L*yft too now. I got to work on that. Having this outlet helps. Thanks

If Biden really were a poor soul trying to maintain his dignity, I would feel the same way, but he doesn't belong in a responsible position, and he's not on the defensive. He's actively attacking people who don't agree with him, and if his attacks fall short there is something satisfying about that. Biden got elected pretending to be something he's not. I find little about him that I would call "dignified."

Can't blame the Dems for trying. These days there's no telling what the GOP will surrender.

After using Lyft several times at the 2016 GOP Convention (Cleveland) Hubby and I (retired) have talked about doing some free-lancing just to keep busy. After reading about your travails, the answer - for now (during Covid) is a resounding "NO".

Pivoting - please feel free to provide positive (or negative) vignettes of your passenger vignettes. Anonymously, of course.

So the Democrats want to remove local election boards from oversight by the legislatures that set the election laws? Is that constitutional? I thought that oversight was one of the powers of every legislative body.

They want to remove oversight and they want to abolish voter ID and they want to abolish the secret ballot... It goes on and on. Unbelievable.

tim in vermont said...

Why is it wrong for Trump to claim the last election was stolen and not wrong for Biden to claim that the next two will be stolen, well of course only if the Democrats lose?

It's a rhetorical question.

Citing a few sentences from a voluntary discussion guide on racism that was issued by The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters in London and later withdrawn, Color Us United has suggested that The Salvation Army asked donors to apologize for the color of their skin, that The Salvation Army endorses and teaches Critical Race Theory, and that The Salvation Army believes America is an inherently racist country. These claims are false, and they distort The Salvation Army’s mission for the benefit of Color Us United’s ideological and political gain.

As Color Us United’s president, Mr. Xu has also called for The Salvation Army to eliminate positions focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. That’s not going to happen. The work of ensuring equal opportunity and treatment within The Salvation Army is far too important not to be intentional about it.

The Army is sticking by its guns. It's almost like they think that Americans are incapable of critical thinking. Plan your giving accordingly.

You reap what you sow. He cannot continue as President- that his family and his aides haven't demanded that he resign and let a mentally competent person take the office is criminal misconduct. I forced myself to watch that press conference, and even with softball questions from pre-approved interrogators, Biden was completely incapable of answering pretty much any significant question with a coherent answer. I am guessing this is the last time they let him face the press this way- it really was that bad.

Basically, Vance reportedly set off the feud when she found out that Frawley was to be her TV husband. She was offended that people would even buy the possibility of being married to someone who looked as old as Frawley did (Frawley was in his 60s at the time, and Vance was in her 40s), and voiced that opinion. Vance was not too much older than Ball, and she had to be “frumped up” so that she would not look so attractive, which annoyed her. Frawley got wind of her comments, and it ticked him off. Apparently, Vance never apologized to Frawley, so that resentment lingered between them.

Frawley was a pretty crusty, cantankerous old guy anyway—his Fred Mertz character wasn’t too far off from what he was like in real life. He generally kept to himself during rehearsals so he wasn’t the chummy type, but when he had to perform, he did his job. His personality put Vance off when they first met, and she never warmed up to him on any level.

At the time Frawley was cast, his career was on the downslide due to his problems with alcohol, and he had to practically beg Desi Arnaz to hire him. Arnaz thought he would be perfect, but he was skeptical about Frawley’s work habits, and told Frawley that if he ever was late or didn’t show up even once, he was done—Arnaz would fire him on the spot and write him out of the show. And of course, we know Frawley honored that.

Vance’s comment and Frawley’s personality pretty much dictated that there would be no love lost between the two, but they were apparently such professionals they were able to set all that aside and do their jobs.

I watched a good chunk of the Biden press conference. I don't think he's senile or even all that addled. He did, however, wait a beat too long to find the word he was looking for. He sometimes seemed just on the edge of getting lost in the thicket of his words, but the muscle memory of old cliches helped to ease the floundering. The performance wasn't reassuring but, strictly speaking, not quite alarming.... He said that in the future he will be reaching out to academics and editorial writers for advice on how to move forward so we can all look forward to better days ahead.

Perhaps Fred Mertz had some money put aside, and Ethel was looking for stability after a hard tack childhood during the depression.... Ethel was drawn to Lucy like Sancho to Don Quixote. She recognized that part of herself as being attracted by chaos and was afraid of it. She held on to Fred because of his very dullness. He was her round, buoyant life preserver....That's why she originally married Fred. She had been attracted to bad men with an aura of danger. She had been knocked up by a bootlegger who refused to marry her. She had put Fred in the friend zone, but when he heard of her plight he offered to marry her. There weren't that many options for a pregnant girl, poor and alone, in a big city. She accepted the proposal and was truly grateful for his kindness. The pregnancy ended in a miscarriage that precluded any future pregnancies. It was not a marriage of passion but of comfort and convenience. She wasn't a bad cook, and he was a good provider. She looked to Lucy for adventure and Fred for stability. And so they went down the years together.

Tonight on MASH

I used to love the M*A*S*H TV. At some point however the bias became too much to overlook, and I couldn't enjoy watching it anymore. The nail in the coffin was when I read an interview of Alan Alda.

Thankfully, before I soured on the show, I discovered the books, and the movie. The movie is based on the first book. The first two books, and the last book were written by Richard Hooker. The 12 in the middle were written by William Butterworth III. Some of you may know Butterworth better as W.E.B. Griffin. All of the books besides the first one deal with the characters after Korea.

I watched a portion of the press conference. I was struck by Biden’s remarks re Trump and the supposed five Republican senators who would vote with Biden but don’t because of a threat of a Trump induced primary. But, if you get voted out in a primary, isn’t it the voters expressing their dismay? Shouldn’t you vote as if you represent your constituents? That segment made no sense to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was made up or exaggerated.

I also laughed out loud when Biden announced that he was going to ask a rhetorical question, then looked up for a few seconds, then announced that he was not going to do so. Had me at the edge of my seat - quite the comedy act!

One, I believe some Republicans did vote with the Democrats on infrastructure. Two, they might vote for Biden on other things as separate bills, but not when everything is tied up in big omnibus or resolution packages. Three, what he describes is the current political reality: with or without Trump, Republicans and Democrats get primary challenges if they don't stick to the party line. Four, who is to say that they actually told Biden this, or that they weren't just trying to humor him?

This weirdly echoes the dumbness of some #nevertrumper republicans, like Jonah Goldberg. When Trump was in office, Goldberg used to regularly write about politicians he could not name who voted with Trump and MAGA but "privately" told Goldberg that they hated Trump and his agenda and felt threatened by him. It never occurred to Goldberg that the politicians he was talking to were playing the "don't blame me, blame Donald Trump" game in an effort to keep on his good side.
