"A Chinese court has suggested that infidelity is insufficient reason for divorce, prompting heated debate across the country...."

"'The latest attitude on divorce by the law is to prevent frivolous dissolutions,' read the article, which was later removed after public backlash. China is fighting a rising divorce rate through state counselling and forcing couples who want to split into a one-month 'cooling off' period.... The topic drew 980 million views in 48 hours on Weibo, China’s leading social media platform...."

The only thing keeping the Chinese Regime in place is the Biden Regime.

They are not popular. Many of these edicts are actually being ignored just like the Biden regime is being ignored here. Xi is mocked just like Biden is though to be fair Xi has the benefit of not being a dementia patient.

They are just a few years ahead in the government/corporate alliance for censorship.

The fall of fascist regimes happens very slowly. Until it happens fast.

Decades ago America abandoned the requirement of fault in order to get a divorce. In a free country, people shouldn't be forced to stay married. In Nebraska, a mere recitation in the pleadings by one party that there are irreconcilable differences and that attempts to reconcile have been made are enough.

Sounds like the regime wants to redefine adultery as frivolous dissolution, rather than an assault on bedrock Confucian values.

I guess the Chinese should stay together for the sake of the children they have been encouraged not to produce.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of tyrants.

The CCP is really desperate for people to have kids, because their society is going to implode in a couple of decades.

The problem for them is they first created a society where city dwellers and the (would be) upwardly mobile are strongly discouraged from having multiple kids.

And Xi's crackdowns and consolidating all power in himself tells everyone that while Xi is invested in the future, they should not be, because there's no payoff for them.

So they (city dwellers / upwardly mobile) are having one child, or no children, and doing what's best for them, not what's best for society.

The CCP could liberalize society, give people a voice and an investment in the future. but they're not going to do it, and nothing else will work

China saw the Vatican and decided to raise the bet. Or maybe this is just a game by the Times of London.

Recall the CCP's attitude toward silent meditation, Christian evangelism, group Tai Chi to music, and mass protests. The arrests will be made. The tanks will roll. The problematic people will disappear, either herded into re-education camps or hosed down the gutters into the storm drains. If the CCP says "stay married" I'd suggest either shut up and stay married or push your spouse off a roof and don't get caught. Anything else is not allowed.

If they're trying to boost the birthrate, it seems that allowing divorces so people can remarry would be more productive than forcing people who dislike each other to remain together.

I'd be curious to know if they will apply it equally. Would a man seeking a divorce over his wife's infidelity be told to get over it or will they just tell that to the wives?

maybe (just maybe!) they should try Open Borders!
No Border!
No Wall!
No China, at ALL!

I mean, if people are dying while lining up to sneak into the USA (which is a HORRIBLE PLACE!),
There's Got To Be MILLIONS AND MILLIONS wanting to to live in a worker's paradise like China!

I mean,
they don't have TRUE SOCIALISM, and some people here would consider the CCP to be right wing moderates;
but! It's GOT TO BE BETTER than here, right?
i mean, Right?

Rising divorce rates combined with lowered marriage rates and the results of the One Child Policy has led to a low birth rate just as the number of elderly rises.

The CCP needs to fix this crisis before it gets even more too late.

CCP could be hearing sounds of "An American Divorce" : which could result in custody battle / Divorce between Mainland and Taiwan

I was reading something recently about Al and Tipper Gore and it seems that although they split up some years ago they've never actually divorced although they both see other people. I also read a few days ago that Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger just finalized their divorce 10 years after splitting up.

The best way to avoid divorce is not to get married in the first place. That's easy enough to do in this country but I don't know what the incentives/penalties are in China for people living together as a couple without being married.
