I just cannot imagine how they're going to keep those famously funny North Koreans from laughing about life in general for 11 days. Maybe they can open up their world to the New York Times. They won't laugh for a year.

It always seemed significant to me that instead of the usual Commie Conformist dress codes a la Mao and his acolytes, the Nork populace seemed to have some sort of limited personal choice in cut or color. Not so many peasant tunics and caps, more sport coats and ties.
Instead of wanting to be copied, Kim desires to be unique, sui generis. Sumptuary law can cut both ways.
