"MAYBE just a crazy woman..."

ADDED: "Cher took a random photo of a 'beautiful couple' and Twitter found them/Cher continues to be the most chaotic celeb on Twitter" (etalk)("Omg! That's me, and it was my birthday! Wow! I can't believe it! 🥰").

AND: Don't bother seeing the new "West Side Story"... or even the old. Cher has the whole thing covered:

"Cher add me on Xbox" - I lol'd.

I first I thought she offered to take their picture with their camera so they could be photographed together, as random strangers sometimes do. Which left me confused as to how she wound up with a copy. Weird. But no, it's just a nice story--a completely forgettable moment except that the photographer was Cher and now they are internet famous for a few days.

Quite the birthday present for the young lady.

The current "West Side Story" is great.

I certainly hope Cher is paying licensing fees to the Estates of Steven Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein.

She's not singing in Spanish? Forget about it. So unwoke...

Cher was good in Suspect (1987) though Liam Neeson badly overacted his part as crazy homeless guy.

Just because she's crazy doesn't mean she can't be nice sometimes. How this enhances her "most disruptive celeb on Twitter" ranking eludes me. I just do not get celeb-sucking-up.

Should we encourage responsible tweeting by Cher, or stick to the current policy of discouraging all tweeting by Cher?

"Cher" has a wide vocal range. She's talented, esp when playing each character as she imagines Cher would. That said, Broadway musicals are so over the top. 12 minutes is about all I can handle.

That's Cher: The bride at every wedding and the corpse at every funeral.

As God as my witness, I thought it was a parody.

Wow! Whatever else one may say, Cher definitely is talented. That 1978 special was really something.

I sense little enthusiasm from that guy’s body language. I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♂️

Ya' know......there is NOTHING spontaneous about this. This is ALL stage managed.

They are, truly, a beautiful couple.
And happy looking…

Is Cher promoting a new reality show??

I don’t usually look at this kind of thing, but this one was actually pretty entertaining. Maybe a little too butch for “I Feel Pretty” and the other Maria stuff (and left out a bunch of stuff), but otherwise entertaining.

Wonderful, goofy but wonderful. Everything show folk should be.

They look about 30 years old. Why would they know or care who Cher was?

I am not a Cher fan, but that West Side Story of hers was quite good.

Cher is a terrific talent, no doubt. But she is really off the deep end when it comes to politics.
She's not the only one, of course.

I have never understood the Hollywood syllogism:

I am a talented artist
(Mysteriously missing minor premise...)
Therefore, you should listen to my sage advice on life, who to vote for, what to believe, etc.

No 'maybe' about it...

And here I didn't think I liked Cher. This is great, thanks for posting as I would not have seen this otherwise.

The Sonny and Cher show was confusing. Did she really hate him? Was it all an act? Or did expressing contempt for him every week make her really despise him to the point where she was ready to run off with an Allman brother?

I thought she was lucky to have him (assuming his puppy dog devotion was real). Now I wonder if she didn't pioneer some strange Armenian-American female aesthetic that somehow culminated in the Kardashians.

And what about poor Chaz? Has he finally settled down with some nice trans woman?

She's got a great figure, and she's showing it off.

Dickfor doesn't even fondle her ass.

By chance I saw Share at Marshall Fields in Chicago in the 80s. She looked good. I was about 300 feet away. Could have been Rula Lenska for all I knew.

The girl is over the moon. The guy is more, “fine lady. But be quick about it.” To me, that just makes it better.

Cute story! I hope they don't have any problematic tweets out there for people to unearth and ruin their lives.

I like WSS2 a loot. I went with an open mind and only disliked the actor cast as Tony (Ansol Elort) and the volume on some of the sounds (seemed low to me but that might be my problem). I didn't mind the "updating" though the elimination of the word "gay" in "I feel pretty" seemed silly. It didn't open as strong as expected. The new Spider-Man movie is operating at almost full capacity at our theater. One last take: during our after-movie dinner, my daughter remarked on the color of the "costumes"/clothing worn by the two sides. The PR's wore bright colors: red, yellows and such. The whiteys wore darker: black, blue and such. No spoiler, but, as Maria is walking to meet Tony prior to the gunshot, she is wearing mostly blue. "Gone to the other side", my little one noticed.

I believe the scientific term is 'crazy lady.'

The Cher performance is from 1978:

"Cher… Special opened with Cher’s mother, Georgia Holt, scolding Cher, styled in pigtails to make her look younger, for rifling through her records. Cher admits she got into the records so she could learn the songs from West Side Story.

When her mother asks Cher what part she is going to play, Cher replies, “all of them”.

Cher stands up, looks directly at the camera, and says, “Ladies and gentlemen, for tonight’s entertainment, I am proud to present West Side Story. I will be playing all the parts. Thank you.”

It, of course, ranked among the Top 10 most-watched programs of the week and was honoured with a Technical Emmy Award for “Best Achievement in Lighting Direction”.

It also received an Emmy nomination for “Best Art Direction for a Comedy-Variety or Musical Special”. Frankly, the Banco Central Burglary needs to move over, because Cher not winning these awards was the biggest robbery in human history."

Link.

Ann Althouse said...

I like that the intro has Cher as a little girl, expressing her love of music and theater with the idea that she should play ALL the parts. It's like Gilda Radner's Judy Miller Show, which was from 1977.

Cher is actually more convincing playing the male characters than the female.

Cher playing all the parts in Bernstein's musical is the flip side of Bernstein singing all the parts in "Tosca" to prepare a neighbor to see a performance at the Met with him. At the conclusion Bernstein leapt off a coffee table and sadly broke his ankle.
