"I regularly wished aloud for a mental health version of Dr. Fauci to give daily briefings. I tried to normalize the wide range of intense emotions people felt; some thought they were truly going crazy."

Said clinical psychologist Lakeasha Sullivan, quoted in "We Asked 1,320 Therapists What They’re Hearing From Patients" (NYT).

If there were "a mental health version of Dr. Fauci," how could he legitimately acquire the information? How bizarre would these daily briefings sound? Could we see color-coded maps of the country, with blobs of sadness and paranoia?

But surely the pandemic is raging in the mental realm. One therapist said: "A 10-year-old boy I work with came up with ‘sad panic mode’ to describe his feeling of overwhelm. I now use this phrase with other kids, and it resonates."

His parents are doing a piss-poor job of shielding this young child. His risk of harm from COVID is minimal. I wonder how often he's been told that.

The whole covid panic porn industry, beginning with Fauci should be horse whipped for terrorizing children who never were threatened by Wuflu. We certainly don't need to compound the problems with another arrogant panel of elite experts. Just go the fuck away.

Wishing for a mental health version of Fauci to give you briefings is a sure sign that you are crazy. Why not a mental health Cuomo or Biden to tell you what to think?

Larry Kramer called Fauci an "idiot,"an "incompetent," a "murderer," and a "Nazi," but Kramer and Fauci ended up as friends (at least during the times when Kramer didn't think his own death was immanent). Either Tony has great personal magnetism, or it was a New York guy bond, or Larry was more of a pussycat (or more of Democrat) than he ever let on.

Not only do I not wish for a mental health version of Dr. Fauci to give daily briefings, I think the existing version of Dr. Fauci needs to leave the public eye.

I started out an admirer: Wow, here we have someone with these decades of experience in infectious disease study, advising the president and communicating very clearly to the public as we head into the unknown. Lucky to have him.

I turned into a defender: Well, sure, he's going to be wrong sometimes – if all this were perfectly understood, we wouldn't need people like him - but an expert will spend less time wrong than I would, thinking about his field for the first time.

Then later a skeptic: Wait, you did what? And - why would you do that?

And now I hear him and I tell him through my car radio, Just go away. Because once you admit you've told anything but the truth as best you can discern it, for any reason, why should I listen to you ever again? Why should anyone?

There is a reason that leftists have repeatedly turned to labeling disagreement with them as a psychological disorder.

The map could have blobs of sadness. The paranoia would be denoted by pushpins connected by bits of string.

"If there were "a mental health version of Dr. Fauci," how could he legitimately acquire the information?"

Why would he need "information"? He didn't need any to dismiss the WuFlu lab-leak hypothesis, nor to endorse various "mitigation" measures. Scott Atlas called his BS.

But the mental health "pandemic" illustrates the utter lack of rational decision-making by the "authorities," elaborately discussed on this very blog last year. Even now the obsession with cases continues to rage.

The mental health problem was the reasonably foreseeable effect of the kinds of policies Fauci et al. promoted, to the detriment especially of young people. How will the perpetrators be held accountable?

"Help us Obi Wan Kenobi. You're our only hope."

Perhaps clinical psychologist Lakeasha Sullivan should rely upon her own professional acumen rather than wish for some slippery sophist like Fauci to deliver the day's approved positions to her.

Dr. Fauci is one of the main reasons we have so many people in our country seeking psychological help and/or just sitting in their homes and apartments fearing the future. A mental health version of Dr. Fauci?

If anything, our kneeling at the statue of Dr. Fauci has made us weak and subjected us to extreme behaviors. His influence is outsized as it is, and if anything, he IS the psychological version Ms. Sullivan is seeking.

I'd prefer to see less Fauci, more Alfred E. Neuman. I believe the information passed around would be similar, but our expectations would be less.

Yeah, like Fauci has been right about sooooooo much! I was especially pleased to find out about the Wuhan Funding program he was bragging about everywhere. Oh! Wait!

I sometimes wonder if we are in a Milgram experiment at the direction of Fauci and a few others, and the people of our entire nation are the subjects.

Therapists? Fucking THERAPISTS? Just shoot me now. The mental health front lines are in hospitals, community mental health centers, prisons, and ERs. Therapists perform a moderately useful function to keep people from sliding down into the world of serious mental health issues. But they don't actually deal with much of that, and don't have a clue how, frankly. One of the worst things I could hear about an admission in an acute crisis was that she had a private therapist who has a particular school of thought and strong opinions about it. Some of them are brilliant, skilled, and wonderful, but the percentage is not good. Just as many are destructive, and most are just nice people with some training in looking at things differently and some practice in getting people to look at their problems in a new way - and stick with it.

An individual therapist might give you the most brilliant insights you can imagine into a dozen subjects, but as an aggregate, do not ask these people to tell you what is wrong with the world and what must be done to fix it.

Yeah, this is a great time to be a therapist. Business is booming!

I was just saying today that we need a mental health Fauci who practices gas-lighting on an industrial scale nationally. We can pipe his observations and advice into public spaces and broadcast him on every channel.

That should bring the nation together.

A mental health version of Dr. Fauci would ignore problem solving that didn't include continuation of the problem causing behaviors of government.

Fauci drove vaccines rather than treatments for COVID, as he did during HIV research. Now we have a temporary vaccine of questionable worth for COVID, which he champions. But we also thank goodness, have effective treatments - despite his unheroic efforts to prevent their investigation and development.

So Fauci would continue lockdowns and totalitarian oppression of life, business, society, and suggest we all take the pill, sit in the pod, and eat the bugs he provides (as the kids say).

It's called the Bible. Read the Bible, regularly guaranteed to help your mental health. Every single meaningful issue of life is dealt with in there in some way, and it really improves one's mental health.

"Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it springs the issues of life." Found somewhere in there... ;-)

Ann, just out of curiosity: Are you sitting on the comments all day so that we can all respond only to you, rather than to one another? Or is this coincidence? You must have a lot of stuff to do there, after all; maybe you just can't get back in time to put comments up. OTOH, when you add new posts w/o putting up the comments to existing ones, I do wonder.

Just what we need: Dr. Fauci gaslighting us into thinking it's OUR fault if we don't accept his "science du jour", his refusal to admit error, and his doubling down on restricting our freedoms.

Anyone here remember when the Russkis used to consider Sakharov, Solzehitsyn and other political dissidents as having mental problems just because they disagreed with Soviet tyranny?

Not a dime's worth of difference.

Imagine there's no Fauci.
It's easy if you try,
No masks to suffocate us,
Around us earth and sky.

Imagine there's no testing -
It isn't hard to do,
No signs to social distance,
And no Karens, too.

There is no longer a need for a mental health Fauci because the press doesn't have Trump to kick around any more, and only blue states are still panic mongering over COVID.
