If you're not home for Christmas, is it because you got deprived of your way to get home — perhaps at the last minute, as thousands of flights got cancelled? There are all the people who go somewhere other than home for Christmas, perhaps to some vacation spot or maybe just to someone else's home? And then, what is home? Maybe you feel that the place where you live is not a home — in which case, a special Christmas wish to you. And maybe you feel that wherever you hang your Santa Claus hat is home — lucky you!

Home as usual. Various family members nearby to visit later today/tomorrow. A little light rain in SE Michigan, so no road issues. Merry Christmas to all!
I am home home. Fortunate to have dear friends here as a substitute for family. (There are advantages to being on the beach in Florida, people seem to find a reason to visit.)
Merry Christmas to all!
I left the Christmas party early. There was a Democrat there and I didn't want to catch stupid.
Into you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11
Home is where the heart is.
I’m home. Sons and their wives arrive by car later.
I am not in my normal home because Idaf flooded it, and it won't be repaired until Sprint or Early SUmmer. Was living in hotels until the start of the month and we moved into an apartment. So, some of us are displaced for non-travel reasons.
Home for Christmas for the first time in almost a decade. We typically spend Christmas with my MIL, who is too old to travel and was too ornery to come to us even back when she wasn’t. Not cancelled due to cancelled flights, but because I was exposed to COVID Tuesday. I’m pretty sure I’m fine (and I have enough home tests to check myself every day until the danger passes), but MIL is mid-80’s and in poor health, so no chances get taken. It’s not such a bad thing. I’m cooking either way, but today I get to cook in my own kitchen. And I don’t have a stiff neck/headache from sleeping in a strange bed.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good morning!
Merry Christmas everybody.
Home, had no plans to go anywhere. Just lost my mom and my husband is very ill. Holding my kiddos tight. Merry Christmas too all of you on this -the only blog I read (and have for about 12 years!)
At daughter's house in GA until tomorrow, then on to MS for a few days to visit with wife's family, then to the beach condo in AL for few days, then home to FL. Not flying, but a lot of driving.
All our kids came to the farm for Christmas. I hope the ones from farthest away can make it back!! Crappy weather and lots of Heights and the Notch.
We do our tree on the Eve- it takes us a long time and we are so blest. My middle daughter got a chainsaw from her boyfriend lol! Hope everything goes well for everyone- Merry Christmas!
PS delivered a calf this morning- a little heifer- yay!
I named her Light
Had I a hat worn often, I'd call home wherever I hang that chapeau of mine, following the rule laid out in "Poppa was a rolling stone" for wherever I call home. Now I'll leave you all alone.
I'm home for Christmas, but I'm not with family. I just stayed by myself at home this year, rather than deal with the mess that is holiday travel.
I'm used to it, so it's not that depressing. I'll make pulled pork tacos later, along with bread pudding, and watch The Ref.
Home is a house we moved into at the very end of last year, so this is our first Christmas here in a completely new setting from the 30-some years prior. Immediate family and their SO's are here with us. It has all been an invigorating adjustment. Christmas Eve dinner out in a packed restaurant, also refreshing.
I may have reached rock-bottom humanity, slightly disappointed that I tested negative for the virus, and therefore have to shave and clean up and drive a few miles to break bread with family in a house with all the doors and windows open in the middle of winter.
Mrs Maynard and I were tempted to go back home to Chicago, but decided to save the money and fly out there next Spring. It's a good thing, given all the flight cancellations and virus fears.
We stayed at our new home in AZ and went to Church without masks. We are not particularly religious, but church is an important part of our lives that has gone missing since COVID-19. We both teared up at times during the service.
Stationed in England, so this is a solo affair. Who'd have thought I'd ever miss Nebraska?!
Extended family did Christmas on a beautiful October day. My eldest sister was originally not coming but changed her mind with the weather report and had a great time catching up with everyone. A week later she was gone. I miss her today but so grateful that our last time together was so special.
Yesterday a neighbor I know just from a distance stopped by with the family and a plate of cookies. When I looked at the card there were names, cell phone numbers and the offer to help if I need anything. I was touched and shared the experience with another sister. Turns out she was his 6th grade teacher. I have no idea if he knows she and I are related but was struck with how we are connected in life to more people than we realize.
For the sake of my mental and emotional health, I know longer go "home" for Christmas or other holidays. I have a new home: me and the kids. That's been sufficient and fulfilling for many years now. One of the best decisions I ever made was detaching myself from my dysfunctional family. It was tragic, but necessary. My life has become more sane.
From my home to yours, Merry Christmas.

We live in Arizona, drove to Utah for Christmas. Those are two big states, so it took a while. Made a Christmas eve roast. Watching the kids open presents takes me back...
Home is where the heart is, and friendship is a guest. A book, a fire, a handclasp. A place where souls can rest.
Kids drove 1000 miles to be here at my home for Christmas-yay. Their reward is a 65 degree , sunny day at the beach in NC.
Home in Blessed Texas, 70ish with blue skies. Mrs. Crude and I alone at home at present, one of our kids arriving with some of our grands later today. Praying for the safety of one of our other kids who is deployed (yeah, we still have troops over there).
I hear there is still a virus going around, but it no longer affects our lifestyle. We still see a few people who wear masks at HEB, but otherwise, Christmas gatherings and shopping have been very close to normal. County Health Dept still sends me a daily email of the number of people hospitalized, etc., and it is minimal, so no need to get all wee-wee'd up about it, Karen and Brandon.
Merry Christmas to all.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
We are home but will go to the extended family of in-laws a few miles away for brunch.
I’m at the wonderful time of life where I travel to my children’s homes and enjoy my grand children at the holidays. Flights are no worse than prepandemic, other than wearing a mask. The grands are grand and everyone left, right and center is polite. Life is slowly returning to normal.
Oh, JMR. Admit it! You love Nebraska.
In my 68 years, I have never spent a Christmas anywhere but at home(s), with as many family around as practicable, and whether I wanted to or not.
My wife is vacuuming right now, in preparation for our gathering. Our son and my brother, and perhaps the BIL who lives nearby and his younger daughter. Up until about 2000 when the boy was 14 we would make rounds to our moms, and see some aunts and cousins, but almost everyone is scattered or gone now.
We'll have a balmy Christmas here--in the 70s. Not unheard of.
I’m alone in my house in FL. It’s fine because I celebrated Christmas on Thanksgiving in CT with my family. I have my own calendar and switch the holiday dates around to suit my purposes. I hope this is okay..it works for me.
Merry Christmas to all!!!
Home is where your family is, so I am home for Christmas. This year in Santa Barbara, where the oldest daughter is in graduate school. A couple of years out of the last few, in Mexico, all together.
My Christmases in approx order: Tokyo, Rome, Canberra, New York, Pretoria, Bonn, Berne, London, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong…
Today Hong Kong.
Merry Christmas One and All.!
Time to listen again to a Christmas Carol …
I am blessed to have a home where I wake up and go to sleep every day. It's a home where I am today, Christmas day, which is really just like any other day. I don't take home for granted.
Took the train “home” to Chicago from Boston Thursday afternoon, arriving yesterday morning. I remember walking around North State Parkway after my 20th high school reunion and saying to myself "This is beautiful but it’s not home any more.” But I changed my mind as the years went by, even though I usually come only once a year and there hasn’t been a physical “home” for nearly 50 years.
My niece who is supposed to be hosting later this afternoon and evening just had a Covid test and last I heard hadn’t gotten the result. Not sure what’s going to happen. There were a lot of moving parts that were supposed to coalesce.
I skeeve the idea of owning a Santa Claus hat, but yes, where I live is where Christmas means the most, I don't travel.
Merry Christmas to Ann and all the commenters here, you are in so many ways a wonderful bunch
Merry Christmas to all of the Althouse commentariat. Home is in central Minnesota where we have lived for the last 42 years. Our great neighbors have been taking good care of us this holiday season.
Home, in the house where we raised out children Three of the four are here with us. Cooked our traditional Christmas dinner today. Walked to midnight mass last night. It is wonderful to have them here with us. Wish the fourth could be, too, but he had to work and lives across the country from us.
