"We are heating Europe, but they still threaten us with closing the border. But what if we cut off [gas] for the Poles and, for example, for the Germans? What will happen then?"

"We should stop at nothing when defending our sovereignty and our independence.... I would recommend that the Polish leadership, the Lithuanians and other brainless people think before speaking."

Said President Lukashenko of Belarus, quoted in "Huge far-right protest in Warsaw as Poland-Belarus border crisis intensifies" (London Times).
The EU has accused Belarus of acting like a “gangster” by luring migrants from the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa and helping them to storm the border, which is the EU’s eastern edge, into Poland. The Polish government has claimed that Lukashenko’s ally, Russia, is behind the provocative operation....
Bartosz Grodecki, the Polish deputy interior minister, warned of a possible “attack” on the border this evening, suggesting that Belarus could seek to take advantage of the police force being spread more thinly [because of the nationalist Independence March in Warsaw]....
Lukashenko said that he had spoken to President Putin about the issue. He said that many of the people camped near Kuznica were Kurds, whom he described as “warriors.” “With provocation, we will have an armed conflict,” Lukashenko said....

God bless the Polish people and government.

They actually believe in national sovereignty and know well the evils of communism.

They're not suicidal and know that tens of thousands of military-aged Muslim men would erode their culture.

We're not nearly so smart.

If I were to live in Europe, Poland would be very high on the list.

Ask the Germans for help, if you're invading Poland. I'm not following it closely though.

Sheesh. The Poles shouldn't feel so bad about it. We have our own President doing the same thing to us.

Also, just a question. When will some act or comment from the right be just...from the right, not the 'far right'? Or is that just the phrase used in Journalism!? If it's from the Left, then it's 'mainstream' and if its from the right, well, it has to be far right.

Kurds? Hah. Everyone knows they were all exterminated after Trump betrayed them.

But seriously, that "we" is interesting--to my knowledge Belarus is not an energy producer, just a conduit for Putingas.

It's going to be an interesting winter in the bloodlands.

Belarus does not heat Europe. It consumes about 8x as much natural gas as it produces. It's a transit country for the pipelines from Russia and it gets paid for the privilege.

Who could have predicted this use of the pipelines as weapon?

"defending our sovereignty and our independence"

By massing aliens on your border to invade other countries.

The EU was encouraging migrants before. What is different about this group that makes it clear that it's Russia encouraging them and not still the EU's welfare policies that attract them?

Biden should be so proud. He did this.

No problem, we have Europe's back. We can send them our LNG.
Oh, wait. Some fool thought it wise to curtail our production.
Guess you guys are on your own. But no mean tweets, right?

We are led by unserious people. This can turn out very poorly.

Yes, the Poles and Germans need gasoline, but Belarus needs the money.

Just the usual European bickering. No one will cut off Gas. This is why we we need to pull back NATO or the USA should get out of it.

Yancey Ward said...

The Europeans shouldn't be using gas anyway. They need to be heating their homes with solar and windmills. The right thing to do is to stop using gas right now to save the planet.

If we a real president, like the one we had a year ago, not senile puppet we have today, this would not be a problem. We would be exporting liquefied natural gas to Poland. Then the last formerly Communist dictator in Europe and the Germans would be S.O.L. along with Putin. Reagan warned the krauts about the dangers of relying on the Soviets for natural gas, the W did so again and finally Trump warned the EU on depending on Russian natural gas. But the krauts are a hard headed people.

Hmmm: it almost seems that being dependent on foreign kleptocrats for materials essential for national survival could be disadvantageous and, dare I say, even risky. Who would have thought?!!!!

I sure am glad OPEC would never treat the US in such a manner with Joe at the helm.

After all, for the US, abandoning energy independence was a small price to pay for NO MORE MEAN TWEETS!

Belarus ought to be very...very...careful.

If it cuts off the gas pipeline to Poland....it will likely find its pipeline from Russia to be blown up in multiple places.

Its citizens huddling cold in the dark during the coming winter might then ask themselves:

"Who are these fuckwits who are destroying our lives? Do they not remember Ceausescu's fate?"

(and tens of millions of Americans are going to be asking themselves that question here, very soon. How do you think that will work out?)

The leader of Belarus is a stalking horse for Putin. Undoubtedly he borrowed tactics from Putin (if not the Democrats in Philadelphia etc.) in his rigged election. Regardless, he is a totalitarian and anti-democratic.

The Biden Administration takes every chance it can to bash democratic Poland as being too nationalistic and against the rules-based social norms that they advocate (except when pushing Russian collusion lies about Trump as Jake Sullivan did in order to curry favor with Hillary Clinton). Same with the EU. Poland along with Hungary are on the bad list for Biden.

So who does the Biden Administration choose to support in a kinetic dispute between Belarus and Poland? I used to think I knew. My guess is they support whichever country is the greatest obstacle to their globalist fetish. Which means they keep NATO out of the fighting. This follows the Soros line of thinking. Soros used to identify the U.S. as the greatest threat to world peace (translation: global world order), but recently switched to China for that vilification. This is recognition that the enemy of my enemy is my friend until our common enemy recedes. This way of thinking is as old as history, and as wrong. America's Founding Fathers knew this and designed a system to insulate us from the rest of the world's wars. Washington warned us about this in his farewell address - don't become entangled in European politics. What is globalism but becoming entangled in the whole world's politics?

For the record:

* Nov 11 is an official national holiday in Poland, celebrating regaining independence after 123 years in 1918 (so after the WWI).

* The march was not a protest but happens every single year as part of the celebration.

* It is called far right probably because people are carrying Polish national flags during this march (*lots* of them). Similar situation to the US where lots of people are seemingly triggered by the display of the Stars and Stripes.

For the record:

Belarus is not "heating the Europe". The gas is extracted in Russia, then just passes Belarus in the pipeline, making it a troublesome middle-man.

You'd better be careful. If it was that easy, it'd be done by now. And Putin would take any pipeline sabotage (even by his own forces) as a casus belli against the West, all while repairing it relatively easily.

Any protest by people who aren't tothe left of Stalin will be characterized as 'far-right.'

The US could have produced and shipped the Natural Gas to Poland.

But democrats like LBC think Putin should get that money instead and they voted for Joe Biden who has taken millions of bribes from Russians and Ukranians and other tin pots in the Putin orbit.

So like good Russian agents they shut down US and Canadian production and made sure Russians make money and not Americans.

This. Belarus would be doing Europe a favor by helping them overcome their dependence on fossil fuels. It's really a good thing, just as (I'm told by many deep thinkers) non-transient inflation in this country e is really a good thing.

Poland should be building nuclear power plants, asap. Nuclear is, after all, the greenest form of energy, and the most reliable. Plus, if conditions require it, the fuel can be repurposed to calm vexatious neighbors.

Less seriously, it’s delightful that Boratian tactlessness is still alive and well in Eastern Europe. Makes me quite nostalgic for the Cold War.

Duh! Everyone not on the DNC payroll said this would happen. Obviously the shell of the POTUS is a Russian stooge who is using all the power of his office to assist Putin and harm our allies and our fellow Americans. Impeach.
