"Thousands of people are expected to pack the stands at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on Saturday. Organizers expect this to be Trump's largest crowd in Iowa yet."

KCCI Des Moines reports.

That links to a new poll showing that Trump is more popular in Iowa than he's ever been:

The poll shows a majority of Republicans in Iowa, 91%, view Trump favorably. That’s compared to just 7% who view him unfavorably, and 2% who are not sure. Independents in Iowa are split on Trump, with 48% viewing him favorably, 49% unfavorably and 3% unsure. Democrats in Iowa are united in their view of Trump, with 99% viewing him unfavorably, and just 1% viewing him favorably.

You might think it's ludicrous that there's still anyone who's unsure whether they view Trump favorably or unfavorably, but it makes sense to me. They have mixed feelings! It's a love/hate relationship. And I think if Americans were perfectly honest, we'd all confess to having a love/hate relationship with the guy.

By the way, only 31% of Iowans approve of the job Joe Biden is doing. None of these numbers tells us what people would do if confronted with another election with Biden and Trump going head to head. That's your choice again. How do you like it? Make that a poll question. I bet over 90% would say they don't like it. Give me a better choice!

Anyway, back to that first link. I see that people started lining up on Thursday for that Saturday rally:

Richard Snowden came from Delaware. He is part of a group called the "Front Row Joes." They're the people who consistently wait at his rally sites days in advance. "It's a great way that we can give back to Mr. Trump, show him support, and give him back certain love, because he has, sadly, had so much hate directed towards him," Snowden said.

They think Trump needs love, and they travel across the country and wait in line for days to bestow this gift of love upon him. If the haters would back off, would the love cool? People are so mean to Trump that it does make some people think you need to go out of your way to counterbalance that hate — including going out of your way from Delaware to Iowa.

No, "we" wouldn't. I neither love nor hate the guy. I do respect the hell out him, though, for stepping up to the plate and standing up for all the regular folks out there who make it possible to put food on our tables and a roof over our heads, yet are derided as "bitter clingers" and "deplorables" by their ungrateful rulers.

And he didn't need to do it. Trump is old enough and has more than enough money to just ride off into the sunset and enjoy life. Instead, he took on the corruption that is the sewer our nation's capital has become while enduring everything The Swamp could throw at him and he's still going.

Is there a politician anywhere who has been subjected to the scrutiny that Trump has? Ever since he denied Hillary her prize, he's been the target of the left, with the stated intention of using whatever they can find to put him in prison while reasserting control by putting the adults back in charge. And how is that working out for them? Trump keeps packing the stands, Biden abandons Americans overseas, gets soldiers killed and tries to keep the drool off his chin when he's propped up for his staged photo-ops.

But hey- yeah.. let's be honest.

The thought of another 3+ years of Biden puts me in the state of deep depression. In three years I don’t think I’ll recognize my country if Biden et al stay the course that they are on. The future looks bleak to me. Trump is far from perfect but if the Dems in Iowa cannot see that Biden is the worst president ever and that he is destroying this country…well then, I guess they are blind to the facts. The Biden presidency is a charade and the fake White House set across the street from the real White House is proof. I would like Trump back in office, but he is so controversial that I don’t know if he can win. So, the sane people in this country have got to find someone with Trump’s policy ideas, his balls, but not his ego. I don’t know who that is.

People say many things because they are worried about what their peers will think about them.

Especially people who think they are smart.

People so desperately want to be thought of as smarter than Trump and his supporters. So they say things like this.

Trump got more legitimate votes than any president in history. He was the most successful president in terms of policy and benefits for the average American citizen in decades going way past Reagan.

People can't justify supporting Biden or his obviously corrupt policies. But Trump is so dumb and his supporters are so icky.

The time when we start treating people how we have been treated is coming. Even Kyrsten Sinema is realizing that the left is just full of shitty people that need to be defeated in a military sense.

But some people are just really insecure and live in places with lots of democrats and don't want to be ostracized by their peers.

Further, the Democrat Supervisors have admitted they hid election data from the auditors and destroyed documents. Of course, they did that because all the facts were on their side.

If the R's are going to sit on their hands again, and allow massive election fraud via mail in ballots and non-citizen voting then Trump or any other R is going to lose. But i see no enthusisam on the part of GOPe to win. And if they win in 2022 or 2024, they will act like they did in 2017. The R's will cut taxes on the Rich and....do nothing else.

Althouse, if you are curious about why there is the ongoing, overt hatred of Trump, this is it.

Trump is behaving as if he were a candidate. Trump's cultists want him to be a candidate.
Trump should expect to be treated as a candidate. Trump isn't relaxed or reflective. We, his opponents, won't be relaxed or reflective.

There are maniacs out there who think, as Trump wants them to think, that the 2020 election was "stolen." Trump is going to try -- he will fail, I hope and expect -- to install loyalist officials in various state governments who may help Trump steal an election in 2024. Trump's language has cast loyal, competent, law-observant Republicans -- REPUBLICANS! as his enemies. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Michigan state senator Ed McBroom.

Mitch McConnell, according to Trump, is a "dumb son of a bitch." Trump said of Kevin McCarthy, "This guy called me every single day, pretended to be my best friend, and then, he fucked me." The current Supreme Court of the United States, with three Trump nominees, "had ZERO interest in the merits of the greatest voter fraud ever perpetrated on the United States of America,” and they presided over a "disgraceful miscarriage of justice.” Trump wrote that.

Bring it, rcocean. Bring it! Keep hammering the "2020 election was stolen" argument. I want that fight! I want that fight every day until the midterm election in 2022, and then every day until election day in 2024. I want every single Republican candidate for any office at any level of federal, state or local government to be on the record about whether the 2020 election was "stolen." That is all that I want. One, single issue. And let the nation's voters decide who they want to govern going forward, based on that. In every close Senate race. In every swing Congressional district. Every election, no matter how big or small.

^This^. For about a half a century (and probably longer) the political class has been simmering in their own arrogance and unaccountability. They sent America's sons and daughters off to fight senseless wars, imported workers to keep wages down, destroyed small businesses to further their globalist agenda, and did so with an unearned smugness that would rival pre-revolution French aristocracy.

Trump, for all his faults (and the Internet isn't really big enough to list them all), was able to convince voters that he didn't hate them. Bill Clinton (another man of many faults) also had that talent. His wife, not so much.

JaimeRoberto said...

I agree with most of Trump's policies, but wish they came in a different, less obnoxious package. But I'm not sure that someone with a different personality could have stood up to all the attacks that Trump had to endure. So maybe we have to take the bad with the good. Yin and yang.

Critter said...

If voters grow up, get over the mean tweet thing, and focus on policy, Trump would win in 2024 by a HUUUUGE landslide. Aside from avowed Marxists/Progressives, I cannot fathom anyone liking what Biden has done to divide America, crush small businesses, crater the economy, make America less secure from terrorism (& related issues from Afghanistan), mismanage the COVID pandemic, and kowtow to the obvious blackmailing by China. America will be lucky to escape alive from 4 years of China Joe.

I don't think I'd say that. I'd say that I've never been pro-Trump, but I've been anti-anti-Trump because some of the criticisms leveled at him are completely crazy and few of his critics can even be trusted to quote him accurately, much less fairly represent anything he has done or not done.

Nonsense. You can go on the Number 1 rated cable news channel and claim that the election was stolen. Donald Trump does every 10 days or so. Newsmax and OAN are doing it daily, if not hourly. And there is an entire ecosystem of right-wing radio shows and blogs where you are free to make all sorts of ridiculous, factless claims such as, “2020 was stolen from Trump.” The Althouse blog lets you do that. For instance.

No; you’re chapped about something related, but quite different. What you have seen is that no major outlet that has a bank account is now allowing Rudy Giuliani or Sidney Powell to come on and say that Dominion machines were set up by Venezuelan Marxists to steal Trump votes. If they do, Dominion will sue them for a billion dollars and very likely win. So nobody does that anymore. Trump can say, in his impenetrably vague and legally useless way, that his re-election was stolen. He just isn’t capable of saying how. And if he lied and made up the “how,” and attempted to name names, his fat ass would get sued too.

In any case, the Republican party without Trump is worthless. Its just a party for rich donors that wants more defense spending and lower taxes on the Rich. What do Mitch, Mittens, and McCarthy stand for? Nothing. Just losing slowly to the D's.

I hear you!

What you are saying is that you are a Trump voter above all. Not a Republican, or a conservative. It would not matter to you, that Liz Cheney has a better and more conservative voting record than almost anyone else in Congress. Or that she’s been a reliable conservative longer than Donald Trump has. Or that Mitt Romney has a better record as a governmental executive and dealmaker than Trump.

For you, it’s all about Trump. Trump, fucking with the media and owning the libs with his shitposting.

Yes, you do represent those of the political class that made Trump happen. The self satisfied smugness drove millions of people to vote for a reality TV star. Looking down on Trump voters (I am not one of those) might make you feel superior, but it won't clean up the mess Biden is making.
