"The dozen young people said they were part of a now 3,000-strong troop of young Zemmour activists who dub themselves 'Generation Z.'"

"They describe themselves as radical but not extremist, backing a man who wanted to get to the root of France's perceived ills. 'Zemmour speaks often about insecurity, it's a big topic. He has the courage to speak openly about it, without mincing his words. That touches me especially as a woman...We don't talk enough about insecurity in France,' said [23-year-old Anne-Lys] Falicon."

"A polarising figure who has made a TV and writing career testing the boundaries of political correctness, [Eric] Zemmour accuses the political class of allowing a steady erosion of traditional Christian values and national identity in France. Born in Paris to Jewish Algerians who emigrated to metropolitan France in the 1950s, Zemmour points to himself as an example of how France once successfully assimilated its migrant population. Now, he says, waves of immigrants have been allowed to loathe France and push back against its core values."

A bit late. What's he gonna do? Can the progressive project, there or here, be undone?

Is Zemmour wrong? Doesn’t seem that way from where I sit, but I’m not sitting in Paris or anywhere else in France. The French young people think he’s right and that’s important.

The first step in fixing anything is admitting that there is a problem, so if he’s right, then he’s doing his country an enormous service.

Shorter Reuters: It’s now “right-wing” to want to protect your country.

His complaint about France no longer integrating immigrants and teaching them to loathe France could well be lodged against America. All part of the open borders project, which is doomed to fail because it ignores how people live and want to live.

While loathing France seems quite acceptable to me, I can understand how the native French and even other, civilized persons living there might find it more useful to support love of their own country.

Perhaps such a radical idea as love of country could be imported from France, and applied here to good effect as well?

Is there still erosion of traditional Christian values in France? I thought that was fini. I would love to read a exposition on the core values of France.

Maybe you saw pictures of burning cars in Paris a couple years ago? They were not alit by Jewish Algerians.

The global push-back continues.

Hard to see what this will accomplish other than splitting the Right-wing vote in France. Its as if Rush Limbaugh had run as 3rd party in 2016.

My mother is French, so I have family there. I try to keep up with political currents in France. I had never heard of zemmour until yesterday. Take note, everyone, of how he is being framed by the good globalist sheep at Reuters: “a political outsider with incendiary views;” “a polarizing figure;” “uncompromising rhetoric— he has twice been convicted of inciting hate.” Sound familiar? Anyone who dares to challenge the globalist, gender-sex-race obsessed Establishment is “incendiary”. Ref. Patrick Buchanan, DJT, Victor Orban, Brexit.
Zemmour has the temerity to say out loud what the silent majority can see plainly: that in the suburbs where zemmour grew up, France has “ ceased to be France.”
His populism represents, he says, “the cry of nations that do not want to die.” He advocates a sovereign economic policy to resurrect moribund French industry; wants to defend France’s rich cultural heritage against mass Islamicisation which everyone can see but no one will discuss in public.
His latest book is called “France has not said it’s last word” — a little more sophisticated title than “Make France Great Again” but that’s the general idea.
Money and talent is streaming out of France faster than San Francisco.
I feel like 4 years of TDS has toughened me up. I’m not just going to sit there and be polite anymore when progressives hurl their name calling — bigot-hater-homophobe. We’ve reached peak Hitler, peak racism. Bone up on the genuine views of figures like Orban and Zemmour so we can intelligently counter the Reuters type slander.

Lots of 'right wing' people in the world.

Why is nobody ever described (especially in media) as 'left wing'?

Hmmm...

Like rcocean, I think this might well mean neither Le Pen or Zemmour make it to the 2nd round. This may indeed be the reason he is being encouraged/allowed to run.

Assuming he believes what he says, Zemmour should be supporting Le Pen. I think this is just a grab for attention. He wants bigger Radio ratings.

As a practical matter, I don't think it matters. The French conservatives and Leftists have decided to join forces and prevent any Right-wing leader like Le Pen or Zemmour from getting elected. The conservatives prefer another Lefist to Le Pen. Just like Mitt Romney and George Bush prefer Pelosi/Schumer/Biden to Trump.

daskol said...

WWHS? Houellebecq likes him. I only mention because I think these are the only two interesting French men in public life anymore.

In the media there are no people to the left. Joe Manchin is described as right wing.

LePen's party is more scared of Muslims now. Anti-semitism isn't as much of an issue with them as it was, but there have been problems: they have a hard time dealing with France's record during WWII. All told it's probably a good thing to have an African-born Jew playing a role on the French right-wing. Political families like the LePens have skeletons in the closet and the mistakes they make add up over the years.

Can he reverse the progressive project? I don't think anyone can, and the old France is long gone. Secularism has been an article of faith in France for generations, so Catholic, agrarian France won't be coming back. But the country could take a pause from immigration and work on assimilating the immigrants who are already there. They are already critical of North American-style multiculturalism, so that is already something.

Only right wing people are biased and partisan. Left wing is just plain common sense.

Its worse than that.

There are lots of left wing and far left wing people who will label themselves "right wing" or "lifelong republicans".

Scot: "Is there still erosion of traditional Christian values in France?"

The "erosion" was complete long ago.

There is no real "Christian" identity in France any longer and there hasnt been for quite some time.

The burning of Notre Dame in 2019 was quite symbolic and illustrative of the de-Christianization of almost all western europe.

The islamic supremacists know its just a matter of time and they also know their alliance with the political left will accelerate the comibg islamization of those western european nations.

Who is going to stop them?....

daskol said...

Bernard Henri-Levy is entertaining, but apparently not taken seriously. Too handsome, maybe, not a problem for Zemmour or Houellebecq.

JohnnyL said...

Labeling things as "traditional Christian values" does not necessarily mean a return to a more religious country. Those values can exist separately from religion and within a secular nation. After all, you can live by what's considered traditional bourgeois values without being bourgeois.
