There was discussion awhile back on whether one could tell a sunrise picture from a sunset picture and I weighed in with my deeply-held belief that mornings had a bluish tinge while sunsets were more reddish. Since then the dawn pictures, for whatever reason, all seemed to contradict my convictions. Finally I stopped merely recollecting what I had been told by a famous photographer I knew and whose sayings I collected and used when I took pictures and who was the origin of my convictions on morning and evening and I went to the Internet. There I learned that there is a "blue hour" and a "golden hour" but they relate to the angle the sun is at in relation to the horizon so that there is a "blue hour" and a "golden hour" every sunrise and sunset.

This means that the way I thought one could tell a sunrise from a sunset picture won't work. As I began to suspect when I looked at the pictures here. As for the sayings of my photographic mentor, he was always brief and to the point. I suppose I must have expanded some comment in response to a question about why a certain picture was blue into the statement that morning pictures tend to blue; and another about some other specific picture into a conviction that the golden hour always occurred near sunset. He, unfortunately, has died so I couldn't ask him. I'm always glad to acquire correct information though I do not always like the process.

I’m not always going to catch duplicates but I delete them when I see them. Best not to add another post asking for deletion. I always know it’s accidental

Today I learned the singer of this song is not black.

And if it hadn't been for Wikipedia, listing the genre as a "blue eye soul" i probably would not have found out. Ever. I thought I was going to get in there (Wikipedia) and make a correction. Not.

I think it's hysterical that they are trying to include the removal of the SALT deduction cap, which will benefit almost exclusively wealthy Democrats, who should be honored to pay the high taxes, in the "Build Back Better" farce.

Thanks for your chronicle of soul-searching, self-examination, and self-discovery. Quite inspirational. And I'm only being a little facetious. The sudden introduction of the spectre of death at the end was an interesting twist; not sure how I feel about that. It added poignancy and realism, but came up rather suddenly.

A number of people post odd little summaries of what they have been thinking and doing recently, and they usually have nothing to do with a recent topic. I find these pretty interesting. It is like they are carrying on their own little blogs within the Althouse comment section. Just random little slices of life.

Two questions worthy of contemplation. Is Merrick Garland the most partisan Attorney General since Nixon’s John Mitchell? Might he even be the worst AG since Woodrow Wilson’s Mitchell Palmer? His “stupidity” defense at today’s Senate hearings display nothing but contempt for the senators, and the American people they represent.

I suggested recently that the professor was posting sunset photos (in jest).

Imagine AA sprawled on the couch in her flannel nightgown, slightly hung over after an evening of Jello shots, eating bon-bons and watching Oprah until 4 or 5pm.

Meade stumbles out of bed at 5pm or so, just in time to wake her up from her snooze, and help her into her running shoes and workout gear (props).

They drive down to the lake, take the requisite shots, and call it a night.

What we've been seeing all of these years happened the day before!!!

I think that would be 'The Wingman.'

But Garland sure looks like he's kind of dumb and supremely uninformed for a man of his supposed intellect...

Not even close, Mike. William "The Walrus" Barr takes the title going away.

"U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr insisted that he intervened in the criminal cases of President Trump's allies Roger Stone and Michael Flynn to uphold the rule of law, not to do Trump's bidding."

"U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton sharply rebuked Attorney General William Barr’s handling of the special counsel’s Russia report, saying Barr had made 'misleading public statements' to spin the investigation’s findings in favor of President Donald Trump and had shown a 'lack of candor.'"

I ran into 'caparisoned' a couple days ago. Winston Groom's 'The Allies,' about the relationships between Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin during the War. When FDR died, in the final stages of the funeral procession from Georgia to DC to NYC to Hyde Park, the casket-bearing wagon was led by a horse caparisoned, and with black boots reversed in the stirrups.

I would have skimmed right over that a couple weeks ago. :-)

Good Point! Remember that time? When Barr said: 'I'm still the president's wingman'??
Or when Barr "defied a congressional subpoena to furnish documents about Operation "Fast and Furious," a program to attempt to trace gun trafficking along the southwest border that went awry"
???

Wait a minute! That wasn't Barr, was it?

I am trying to figure out why he would give up lifetime Judge position to become AG? how did his intellect compute the pros and cons of the choice?

And thus, sadly, we see the end of gadfly's brief posting ascension above that of pro-marxist pro-CRT Biden voter LLR Chuck and a return to what appears to be gadfly's inevitable permanent state: that of The Poor Man's LLR Chuck.

Alas.

Hillary Clinton creates her Russian Hoax story to tarnish Donald Trump. Barrack Obama and John Brennan know immediately that it is a hoax, yet say nothing about the hoax. The FBI lies about the hoax and Carter Page to get a FISA warrant to spy on Team Trump. They record a telephone call between Mike Flynn and his Russian counterpart, then stage an illegal interview with Flynn, hoping to catch Flynn in a process crime. They don't record the interview, but rely on notes to document the interview. The original reports say that Flynn was truthful, but someone changes the reports to say exactly the opposite. The DOJ persecutes Flynn over the fake reports. Yet, it's Barr who is corrupt when Barr tries to end the persecution of Flynn.

In another matter, Hillary Clinton is grossly negligent in protecting the nation's secrets. The law on this does not require intent to prosecute someone for such gross negligence. But, James Comey says it does so he recommends no prosecution. I had a Top Secret clearance for decades. The training, which I doubt Hillary even bothered to take, was very clear: It's the duty of anyone with a clearance to protect classified data and to know what is classified and what isn't. Failure to protect that data can result in prosecution if such failure was grossly negligent. James Comey and Lorreta Lynch were corrupt in protecting Hillary Clinton from prosecution for her gross negligence.

I watched Merrill Garland at senate hearing yesterday. Thank God that he’s not on the Supreme Court. He sat there and did not answer questions but repeated his talking points. He did not seem like Supreme Court “material.” He behaved more like a “mental midget.”

Nobody pays judges to go on the speaking circuit.

As a former AG and aggrieved ex-judge, he can make money speaking and talk about whatever he wants as he won't be involved in any cases.

I'm assuming he's retiring after this gig.

He'd be a moron to stay a judge, so at least he's not super-dumb.
