"Thousands of migrants were crowded under a bridge outside the border community of Del Rio on Thursday, part of a massive surge in migration across the Rio Grande this week..."

"... that has overwhelmed the authorities and caused significant delays in processing the arrivals. The U.S. Border Patrol said that more than 9,000 migrants, mostly from Haiti, were being held in a temporary staging area under the Del Rio International Bridge as agents worked as quickly as they could to process them.... The shaded area under the bridge, the Border Patrol said, was to 'prevent injuries from heat-related illness' while migrants were waiting to be taken into custody. The scene — of dense crowds sleeping on dirt or milling about in triple-digit heat amid conditions of deteriorating sanitation — drew condemnations from local officials. Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas ordered the state police and the National Guard to assist border agents in Del Rio, saying the federal response had not been enough to quell the surge in crossings. 'The Biden administration is in complete disarray and is handling the border crisis as badly as the evacuation from Afghanistan,' he said...."

Remember, the Biden admin wanted to be in charge so they could be in charge of this and stop the atrocities these people faced before 2021.

I have to assume that this is what they had in mind, right? It's either that or incompetence.

It'll get a big "nothing to see here..." from the powers that currently be.

The increasingly huge gulf between letting untested unvaccinated illegal aliens roam free-range while punishing working Americans who are vaccine-hesitant is going to also widen the gap between what Americans want and what Biden is shoveling onto us. Sure the courts will eventually help out someone with a wrongful termination or an equal protection claim, but in the meantime we see Biden gleefully putting the screws to his fellow countrymen, as his mentor Barry was want to do, while importing both random Afghans and random third-worlders in unsustainable quantities.

The stack of dichotomies is growing higher: subsidizing Putin's pipeline but canceling Trans-Canada, bringing home 120,000 anonymous foreigners while leaving thousands of Americans stranded, oppressive unscientific vaccine mandates for working Americans but free everything for illegal border crossers who don't even need a flu shot to get in, keeping our children out of school for no good reason while spending literally $100s of millions abroad to teach CRT to foreign children, arming the Taliban while claiming pistols Americans own should be banned because they are "really" machine guns, and the list goes on and on.

An unexplored possibility:

The surge to the border is part of the Mexican Independence Day (September 16) celebrations which have been so visible here in Chicago this week. All week hombres y mujeres have been sticking Mexican flags on their cars and driving around Chicago like maniacs, honking their horns and clogging up traffic lanes. Last night there was a two hour traffic jam on Lakeshore Drive--sorry, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable Lakeshore Drive--as many if not all of our 725,000 Hispanic residents took to the streets to celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain.

What better way to celebrate Mexican independence than to head to El Norte? You can call it transitory--like inflation. Someone get that nice Jen Psaki on the phone. There is a way to spin the disaster at the border. She needs to be told!

Agreed but I request to extend that thought. "Immigrant" implies, to me, a person who wishes to join the community at destination. Learn and actively participate in the customs and rituals of the new place, and keep the rituals and loyalties of the "old country" mostly in memory. The best immigrant is actively seeking and working towards citizenship.

People who live among others of "the old country", preserve that language, participate in the economy and rituals of that place, etc, are called "ex-pats". These folks have no interest in becoming citizens of their new community.

A quick look at Expedia tells me a 1-way ticket from Port au Prince to Mexico City is $1,000. Most flights stop in MIA and require a negative COVID test to board. Then you have to get to Ciudad Acuna somehow. How are all these earthquake-ravaged dirt poor Haitians doing this?

If they can afford air travel these are Haitians at the very top of society, presumably the most able and enterprising. Last I checked, there was not a single college graduate left in the country. They all live in the US or other rich countries. No wonder those left behind flounder: it takes talent to man a democracy. Thugocracies, not so much.

This is the hidden side of the contemporary immigration debate: stripping third world countries, especially those in Africa or with large African populations of their scarce human capital. And all in the name of humanity and of do-gooder's humanitarian impulses. If we want to increase global welfare, the flow of immigration should be in the opposite direction.

The "authorities" are "overwhelmed" only because they lack the political will to close the border.

Why are any "migrants" from Haiti admitted at all after they made it to Mexico?

Few of the "migrants" flee persecution in the first place, but any who reach a country other than their own thereby should forfeit any claim to asylum.

But Dems want the invasion, the faster to ruin the country and solidify their own power.

AFAIK - US Immigration Authorities insist on 'non-immigrants' show them return tickets with dates before admitting into any port of entry.

I would assume Mexico has similar rules - so 9000 Haitians would have bought return tickets to Haiti - SOP is to discard travel documents before crossing

Howard: "The perpetual triggering produces a profound sense of fatigue... a feeling of emptiness. That void is filled with hate, resentment and an endless loop of random conspiracy theories."

Howard sees real time video of thousands and thousands of Haitians that have crossed the US border from Mexico illegally and easily being kept in holding areas under freeways and pronounces the presence of these thousands of thousands of Haitians (easily seen from the above highway) a "conspiracy theory".

Now, we already know from last year that Howard has been "trained" by the lefty machine to squawk "conspiracy theory" at reality when Howard flipped a switch and overnight moved from passionately arguing that antifa rioters were the equivalent of our 1944 Normandy soldiers for over 6 months to, and again this was as if someone flipped a switch, pretending those antifa types never even existed at all.

Interestingly, Howard also claims there are no US citizen hostages in Afghanistan, there is no inflation in our economy, there is no lost GDP growth in our economy (see recent FED announcements cutting all growth projections dramatically), etc.

So at least there is consistency.

You fly from Haiti to Puerto Rico or some other Caribbean country, then to Mexico to cross the border. That’s how they do it. Now let’s punish our so-called allies who abet this.

I know several illegals who flew into JFK on fake “Polish mafia” passports. Another who used postage stamps to make his own passport to fly into New Hampshire. He had been a coal miner in Russia. He was obsessed with terrorist Angela Davis. All the communist bloc natives worshiped Angela Davis. The Soviet leaders would take her on official state tours. My coal miner neighbor had a crumpled photo of him and his wife on their wedding day. They still went to wedding studios to rent clothes and pose for pictures. In the ‘70s. He and the wife had matching, bizarre afros to honor Angela Davis. He said entire towns would get afros when they heard she was coming. This was after she provided the weapons to murder a judge and cripple a DA for life. Four people died after Davis supplied the jail breakers with weapons she bought in her own name the prior week. Now she’s Chair of the History of Consciousness at Santa Cruz. Our tax dollars at work.

What a bunch of gutless wonders, the Democrats. I just helped my drywall buddy register to vote. He’s furious about how many jobs he’s lost to illegals. Never voted before in his life. He’s had enough.

Biden manufactured this with the assistance of the drug cartels and the media and the story is still "Republicans pounce."

But it's like that, isn't it? Everything is "us versus them."

Real stories go unreported, and when the mainstream media expresses outrage or disapproval it's redirected from those responsible to "them."

While engaging in pretend mind reading and amateur psychology might be fun, it really isn't an argument against enforcing immigration law. It won't make the fact that the immigration situation under Biden is objectively worse than it was under Trump (yes, it really hurt to write that), and that the current administration has actually given up on any actual solution to the problem. A thousand-dollar plane ticket ($2K round trip) is an unbelievable amount of money for a single Haitian to scrape up; multiply by the size of a typical Haitian family . . . Haiti is further from Mexico than Cuba is from Florida. I can only guess that the Haitian government -- whatever that is, at the moment -- is facilitating their departure, after the US government explicitly warned them that they wouldn't be welcome if they came by sea. Why not? Haiti itself has no means to take care of them; nor does Mexico.

Michelle, it’s about $200 to fly to another island with lax procedures, then about $250 to $300 to get from there to Mexico. Note the crowd is all young, strong men who could spend their time fixing their own shithole country. Instead, they get in line to take jobs from hardworking Americans and bring their families over. To take hard earned benefits from other people’s families.

And getting fake ID is easier than buying candy. I live in the zip code with the highest percentage of illegals of any zip code in the U.S.: Gainesville, Georgia. Doug Dollins, our disgraced crooked ex-congressman, is playing a Trump supporter on local radio. While is office he took his cash from the Kochs and took a hike whoever an immigration control bill was voted on. It’s a mess up here, but many are profiting from it: grocery stores (with our tax dollars) motel and apartment and trailer rentals (with our housing stipends), teachers, who get to act all superior as we pay for them to be even more idle with two teachers in each classroom for the non-English speaking kids. The Gainesville mafia: elected officials from chicken country, profit handsomely and have gated mansions on the lake.

We know who they are.

Looking back through history, it seems that there have been so many overreactions.
The French Revolution, Jim Crow, Pol Pot, HUAC, Stalin purging his military of all the generals, modern leftism. People trying to correct a perceived wrong, and way overdoing it.
I always thought that people who did this were foolish, counterproductive, and ultimately self-defeating.
I'm now starting to understand why these things happened, even as I still see how wrong they were.
There will be a very strong, probably too strong, reaction to current leftist insanity in this country. It will be very unpleasant, for both sides.
The Texas 6 week abortion law is perhaps the first example of over-reaction. Every attempt to place what I would call reasonable restrictions on abortion has been blocked by unelected judges and federal administrators. This resulted in a law that is chaotic, and probably in the long run unworkable, but from the perspective of the pro-life movement, there is no other option.
No other option, that is, short of the 3rd box. They have just about taken the first 2 boxes away.
It will get kinetic, and very unpleasant, if they keep pushing.
