I perfectly timed my arrival at my vantage point this morning.

I thought I was running a bit late. The official sunrise time was 6:53, and I got into position to take my first shot at 6:56:05...

... so I didn't miss the view of the sky before the sun pops over the line, but I only had 13 seconds to spare, because this was 6:56:18:

There were three loons out on the lake this morning as I was bringing in the dock for the winter. I love the cry of the loon, love the first taste of cold weather, love the whole autumn shebang.

Your Dawn Portfolio is wonderful. Thanks for letting us look over your virtual shoulder as each new day comes into being.

Hi Tim. The docks have been moved to shore in our swimming hole pond as well. Also the loons are still about but we haven't seen the eagles now for 10 days. Walden was warm enough last night to swim without a wetsuit.

I've organized a fall colors Plein Aire painting class for my swimming and hiking friends in 2-weeks. This is a follow-up to our spring time class. This California boy sure loves your New England seasons.

One hour later in Omaha, a volunteer Creighton baseball coach was shot dead. His name was Chris Gradoville. He was a standout catcher for the Creighton baseball team. His grandfather was a standout athlete.

He was performing maintenance on a rental house his dad owned.
